You should make a video repairing, cleaning, etc some old hardware with no talking, only tools and brush sounds. Very ASMR. That said, it was great to see Ladyfractic doing some work on old hardware. Awesome video!
I was thinking "must be the heads that have not lifted or something" - always a relief when it's something as easily fixed as write protect sticker. Glue and plastic tend to cause a lot of problems as age sets in.
I played the heck out of that Frogger port on my Apple II+. It was one of the few games I had because back then, my software choices were limited to whatever I was able to copy from my friends. I did manage to build up a decent game library, though, most of which still works today! 👍
Brings back great memories of when I repaired Apples and Commodores. I used the alignment disk and the hertz wheel on the disk drives. The hertz wheel worked best with a fluorescent lamp that I kept on my workbench. Another winning video. ; )
I just LOVE that you involve your dog as you doo, the PUPPY FRACTIC!! watching this episode with my puppy DEX!! - (and he really looks at the screen..:) and you have a lovely LADY FRACTIC wife too!

Which for me meant that every single day for over two years I was totally obsessed with the Apple II. I literally spent 6-8 hours per day sitting in front of it discovering what it could do, or playing games, or programming, etc. It was a bottomless pit...lol
Well, live and learn. I use computers since the 80s and first time I heard of calibrating a floppy drive. Thank you very much. I have to say you two are quickly becoming my favorite retro hardware channel. Intelligent, funny, relaxed and easy on the eye. (it never hurts). 14:52 I bought this product a few years ago, thinking it would be great for showing items when doing videos. POS. Fun video. And yes I know I have fallen behind.

awesome. yeah I always adjusted via the timing marks with a fluorescent light. BTW if you want to use Locksmith to create copies then you should tune your drive down to about 280rpm instead of 299. The slower rotation rate allows time for writing longer tracks, and lots of disks were copy-protected by writing tracks that were longer than could be written at 300rpm. 280rpm-written disks will still read fine in a 300rpm-calibrated drive.

As an Australian, I feel as though I have the authority to make a ruling on the pronunciation of 'Emu'. I have to say that Perifractic pronunciation is correct, but we still love Ladyfractic anyway. :)
In America we also say Emu (ee-myou) as Perifractic. Not sure where she learned how to say it (ee-moo) lol. When I was a kid I worked in a safari (at an amusement park) where the emu would come up and try to steal the disposable cameras as I was reading the Bible. lol
I just pick up from a local person a working apple iic, monitor and printer for $250. I pretty good price. And I thought I bet RR could help me figure out how to get some games on this great machine. The rights holders have asked me not to make my archive available as it is still their intellectual property. I can share how I got it working. Thanks also to Dan Wood and John McDermott. 1. Download the Workbench 1.3 LHA from WHDLoad official site. Note this is just a wrapper and doesn’t include WB itself. 2. Extract the LHA on a real Amiga or UAE, copy your working Workbench 1.3 entire file system into it, then archive it all back to LHA format. 3. Edit the xml file that you extracted onto your USB drive from RGL website and add Workbench there with a name that matches the Workbench LHA. See other entries in the xml for the correct format. Programs must be in there to work. Hope this helps! Perifractic

I traded my Disk 2's for 1/2 height teac direct drives, when I had an Apple 2+... also had a zip chip & cider 20MEGABYTE hard disk... Ran it until I needed to upgrade for college courses I was taking. Then I got an Amiga 2000hd.... didn't run windows until 1998 :)
Nice bass screw.. but the silent screw didn't want to stay silent going back in....odd. Also the 80s.. back when you could use the same two screwdrivers for everything... even your Apple.... and ahh.. the sweet sound of Apple II frogger music... Also the last game makes it pretty clear that the apple had to use its cpu to toggle a bit to make the sounds.
When I first found out that I could download games from the Internet to an Apple //e via my iPhone and an audio cable, Frogger was the first game I tried. Thank you for the USB-Serial link. ADTPro over the audio interface is neat, but it sure is slow.
Another thing! Man, those multi-colored Amstrad disks in the Amstrad sleeves bring back memories! My first clone was a PC1512DD (upgraded to 640k). I had those disks. I used to love GEM Desktop. Coming from a Color Computer 2, the Amstrad was an impressive step up! I had other upgrades to it as well, of course. My next machine was a 486 that I built, and I sold the Amstrad! I wish I still had it! :(

Also with the contact cleaner I like how you didn't say it is WD40. That is just because it is easy for someone to make the mistake of trying to use the penetrating oil they are more known for. That might make a mess and even cause damage to a lot of things. I wonder how well that contact cleaner compares to DeoxIt.

You can replace the write protect tape with almost any other tape, it will work just as well. A good tape to use would be black duct tape or even better a foil tape just for that extra bit of stability in the tab.
To the penalty box you go for using the Atari 400 as an Apple disk drive stand! For shame, Good Sir, for shame! I'm now recalling memories of my small K-8 school district having a mix of Disk Drive IIs, the later 5 1/4" white-ish disk drives, and the Duo Disks. They all had the official 80-column cards and later 128K RAM upgrades, but nothing cool like the Super Serial Card. The monitors were a mix of green screens and color monitors. They were all Apple IIe models except for the front office which had a //c to input and save the daily attendance records. I certainly preferred them to the computer lab full of Trash-80s at the local community college which ran a youth "computer summer school" program devoid of anything remotely resembling fun.

used to work in ComputerLand and sold computers as well as repaired them. I would check the timing of those drives when you replace belts...there can be some drift from the correct setting. Just an idea! ok, just heard on the video and that you were going to calibrate.

That silent screw wasn't silent going back in. ;-) Mind you, silent screws can be very difficult and usually awkward for all involved.
You can replace the write protect tape with almost any other tape, it will work just as well. A good tape to use would be black duct tape or even better a foil tape just for that extra bit of stability in the tab.
I used to play that version of Fogger at my friend's house.

I'm now recalling memories of my small K-8 school district having a mix of Disk Drive IIs, the later 5 1/4" white-ish disk drives, and the Duo Disks. They all had the official 80-column cards and later 128K RAM upgrades, but nothing cool like the Super Serial Card. The monitors were a mix of green screens and color monitors. They were all Apple IIe models except for the front office which had a //c to input and save the daily attendance records. I certainly preferred them to the computer lab full of Trash-80s at the local community college which ran a youth "computer summer school" program devoid of anything remotely resembling fun.

used to work in ComputerLand and sold computers as well as repaired them. I would check the timing of those drives when you replace belts...there can be some drift from the correct setting. Just an idea! ok, just heard on the video and that you were going to calibrate.
