Love seeing your boat! Maybe you’ve done this in the past and I missed it, but I’m always interested in details of how other people’s boats are laid out and organized. All those mundane details-how the cockpit enclosure works, how you manage storage, how you make coffee, how you handle watchkeeping-might seem boring to you after so many years of cruising, but they are very interesting and informative to those who don’t know anything about the lifestyle and to those of us who are preparing for our own cruising adventures.
Thanks for the comment. We have covered all these over the last ten years of videos, but there is no reason why we can't visit them again because they'd make great content for the podcast. Thank you for the idea, we'll follow up on this.
Yes! Like this format.. 👌 Bali: if you're still around, there are few waterfalls on the north side. Sure it's not as secluded as the ones in the east islands, but if you avoid the weekends it can be rather quite..
I enjoy both your vlogs visiting places and your talking heads video -- what you say in either is always colorful and rich and well told. More and more of the same please. Best regards.
Agreed about the format; I get tired of watching folks doing daily chores while facing the camera, bitching about the heat or some other nonsense. I want to learn about what to expect while sailing, either about running the sailboat itself or the destinations, and you two are gold!
You can do both do the current journey with some cut backs as it fits in by way of explains things or reminiscences. I’ve just done my first on board welding, adding a support brace for an internal bracket to support the new removable inner fore stay I decided to add with my re rigg. Getting ready for my relocation from the Netherlands to Australia kicking off in August.
I see that you are in Lovina, a favourite anchorage with yachties. Just up the coast is Banyuwedang, one of the best natural harbours in SE Asia. Very protected and safe. We stopped there for several days. Beyond there and across the Bali Strait is Banyuwangi. A very friendly well set up marina with all the facilities needed by yachties (haul out, stores, international restaurant/yacht club, fuel etc). We found this facility to exceed those avaliable in Lombok or Bali. Enjoy your sail, we plan to go south to Malaysia in the new year so our paths may cross. Terry & Louise - Miss Saigon.
Delightful podcast! You guys are a joy to follow. I've been watching a certain boat (2 hulls) making passage down the east coast of peninsular Malaysia (only because I know that coastline like the back of my hand) and good lord! Never heard so much whining and moaning and "big heads". And complaining about locals, procuring fuel and sloppy seastates and wah wah wahhhh. Harden the fark up buttercup. Un-follow. But in delicious contrast, you two always seem to extract some benefit or learning from every single experience and walk away from things in cheerful reflection, even if it all didn't go smoothly. Love it! Cheers from SY Miss Foxy, Singapore.
Every passage is an adventure and there's always something positive to be had from it. Even the shitty ones are a time for reflection, like the time we rounded Lombok last year when I just wanted to step off the boat! But the locals are always the highlight, there should be no reason to complain. I think we've run into one crappy official once in our twelve or so years in SE Asia. Everyone else is a delight and, as you know, there's always something to be had from the anchorages and land-based adventures.
I love the look around. Im noticing your engine checklist. I want one of those, and any others that you’ve got. I’ve started building my gangway checklist, with prominently “connect to lifeline” on heading out side.
Doing the blogs whilst sailing is our normal - nice to see you catching up with us 🤣But we have to agree, there is nothing like getting out for a nice relaxing sail after a lot of "hard time".
Yep, that photo one you did last was outstanding. Sailing vids are cool though introducing the photos and the narrative of how the people and places effect and touch you is, in my humble opinion, your future.
@followtheboat it was the narrative that was really captivating. Explaining the journey, the people and places met and explored. Just awesome. Sailing vids have become a trope that you have exited with that one episode.
179th LIKE (already 957 views) by the time getting around to watching this with working audio. If you're gonna be doing documentary-style episodes, I hope you will remember to include generous amounts of drone footage of the areas you are visiting, with some narration of what's being shown.
No, it's never crossed our minds to "upgrade" to a cat! SY Esper is an Oyster, she's the best of the best and we love her. 😂🤓 Happy to hear you enjoy the format. Liz 👍🙏
Wind moving great more, also just showing what you do as you are moving is nice. So when sailing put a camera up. Rough or smooth. We all need to see truth not butts and more butts. Plus more fishing bait lures line do you use wire traces.
Hey man, tell me about steel hulled yachts and the pros&cons of it as I'm thinking about taking up sailing@ 66. Please tell me what you think and what advice you can give me as a lone sailor and the size of the yacht you recommend.
So what... I want to see a cruiser's guidebook to the Asian world - snowbird version. I am sailing Caribbean every winter(Nov 1 - May 1). Why not Asia? Should I move my boat to Asia?
If you're looking for somewhere new to cruise, then why not? Don't forget this vast area crosses the equator so the seasons are different in Thailand Vs Indonesia.
Snowbird discussion. Where would I put my dormant boat from May 1 until Nov 1? How about medical. What happens if you need a heart attack diagnostic? How about a stroke? Paradise in my view is a luxury for when the bad side of life isn't happening.
263rd tag-along view will have to happen when TH-cam audio-glitch is restored. It's on my gear, or theirs... and not just your channel. The censor bots have been working overtime.

@@followtheboat How do you manage mail? We moved onto our boat in May and its already a problem 🙂
Yes! Like this format.. 👌
Bali: if you're still around, there are few waterfalls on the north side. Sure it's not as secluded as the ones in the east islands, but if you avoid the weekends it can be rather quite..
Yes, I did wonder about those waterfalls. We'll see if we can slip them in 👍
You guys do you, love to follow along. You seem like my dad a bit never know where he is going lol
😂😂 no, we often have to double check ourselves 😅
I enjoy both your vlogs visiting places and your talking heads video -- what you say in either is always colorful and rich and well told. More and more of the same please. Best regards.
Thank you for the positive feedback, Daniel. Your wish is our command!
We enjoy your episodes change is usually not a bad.
Thanks, Gilbert 🙏
Super fun format. Loved the sailing and the galley. Thanks!
Glad you enjoyed it! We hope to do more. 🙏 Liz
i liked the format !
Thank you, Susan. Hope you are keeping well.
Looks like a great day to sail; not to often we see inside the boat - is good to see it.
Hopefully we'll be seeing more, Jerome!

Thank you for the kind feedback! We'll do more of that for sure.
Im with you Liz...
All the sensible people are. 🤓🙏 Liz

Wow, how exciting! And well done with the on-board welding. 👍 Liz

😃👍👏👏👏🐻
P.S. I don't need to watch the episode to know who wins the argument Liz! 😜
You know her too well 😅
I agree with Liz completely and will start watching again if you do.
He knows I'm right... Tomorrow's episode will show how we resolved the argument. 🤓 Liz
I'm with you Liz, bring us up to date....😀Bali is beautiful, plenty to see thats not too touristy, enjoy.
I'm working on it... 😉
I love the look around. Im noticing your engine checklist. I want one of those, and any others that you’ve got. I’ve started building my gangway checklist, with prominently “connect to lifeline” on heading out side.
😀 That's quite an old list, but it's still relevant! I'm a list-lover. 🤓🙏 Liz

Yes, after hanging around for ages it's great seeing Esper spread her wings once more!
Yep, that photo one you did last was outstanding. Sailing vids are cool though introducing the photos and the narrative of how the people and places effect and touch you is, in my humble opinion, your future.
We'll continue to include photos as and when we can, Steven.

Fantastic, thanks for sharing.
😃👍
Agree with Liz, summarize the year. ❤
👍👍
New adventures lie ahead. 💨⛵️
Thanks for sharing.
Yes! After a sedentary year we're really looking forward to this next leg.

I need to dust down the drone!
The new format is a nice and relaxed change.
Thanks. We'll stick with it for the podcasts, but we have some catching up to do with the vlogs!
Yep, 5 min montage, then right to the good stuff ❤you guys and thankyou for your Chanel!!
Cheers, mate! Liz 🙏
The audio was really great. No wind noises at all
That's DJI mics for you! Neat bits of kit. 🎤🤓 Liz
Very nice boat, hopefully all fixed. Happy sailing now Go well ok
yes hi luv this on the go real time, we leave Australia next April for Indonesia Malayasia Thailand is our dream, thankyou
Don't rush through Indonesia! Fair winds for your voyage.
Great video episode 😊😊
Thanks, Jack 😃👍
Love the format! Feels like we're along for the ride.
Thank you, Jimmy 👍
Yes, exactly what Jimmy said! You are doing such a great job. ❤❤
I would like to see the ‘vinegar stroke’ of the refit, particularly the restoration of the rudder.😉
Watch the next one for final rudder resolution. 🙏 Liz
7:35 South West monsoon now ..at least in Malaysia
Yes, the monsoons are different south of the equator. We have SE when you have SW.
Nice one, just one small crit., that tie hanging down created a "Floating ring" just to one side. Distracting.
Loved that format x
Cool! Liz
Great idea of the new video format. Just a thought... you have been on this boat for 15 years? Have you ever thought of upgrading to a Catamaran?
No, it's never crossed our minds to "upgrade" to a cat! SY Esper is an Oyster, she's the best of the best and we love her. 😂🤓
Happy to hear you enjoy the format. Liz 👍🙏
Today we met at a restaurant, and I was really amazed by your adventure🌟🤩
We loved meeting you and your family. Keep on fishing! 🙏

After ten years of vlogging we have much footage of us sailing, but we'll be doing more for the podcast now.
By the way, Liz did an entire episode on her fishing setup!

Do you realise its just over 10 years ago that the refit of ESPER started in Satun. Thailand.
Yeah, it's ridiculous how time flies, Mike 😮
Sorry Jamie but is that a new hat? I am in the stage of looking for a new one. That looks nice, what is it?
Aha, that's my Tilley. Had it a couple of years now, it's great! Look for Tilley Airflo. Sadly we don't get commission 😅

Hey Peter. Are you watching on a phone or on TV?
@@followtheboat iMAC computer workstation my with JBL 305 studio monitors. Could be buffering in our WIFI connection. We'll get it sorted out, thanks.
If you think your boat is in 100% condition.
You just haven't found the broken part yet.
Hehe, exactly that!
