Thanks to Kari for the movie: / @rtkgaming154 Mass suicides are happening all over the New England area. It is up to Marky Mark to try to figure out what is causing it.
Don't worry Emer, you aren't missing anything by banning his films. I will admit that Split *was* great, but everything else from him sucks. You could watch Split just to get his only good film over with but definitely avoid everything else.
Funny thing about Unbreakable is that it is one of the only movies I can say I enjoyed and the only one of his movies with a twist that not only makes sense but is really fitting and unforseen. If anything you don't have to watch it for the series, but watch it for yourself. Believe or not, it also has a story and acting that is quite enjoyable unlike his other shit.
Saying you won't watch Unbreakable because of the films you've seen would be like saying you won't watch A Christmas Story because of Rhinestone - both Bob Clark movies - or Vacation because of Vegas Vacation. I must warn you - Lady In The Water is even worse.
I actually like this movie. Not because it's good, because it's not, but because of how unintentionally funny I found all of it. The stupid premise, the holes in logic, the lame acting, the terrible dialogue, the attempts to create tension where none could ever exist, it all comes together for one of the best bad movies out there in my opinion. But I'm sad that this is intended to be the last Shyamalan movie you cover because that means you won't cover Signs! Now I don't think that's a good movie either, but I also don't think it's funny, it's just plain bad. But everyone at the time thought it was awesome! It got fantastic reviews! Roger Ebert gave it four stars! There was even an infamous magazine article calling Shyamalan "The Next Spielberg". Then I saw it, and what the hell was everyone talking about? It still bugs me that so many professional reviewers gave such a bad movie such great reviews, and that's why I'd really love to hear your opinions on it. Signs is just such a weird anomaly it seems a shame not to cover it, but if you don't want then you don't want to, this is just my opinion on the matter. In my opinion of all the Shyamalan movies I've seen, the only ones I'd call 'good' are The Sixth Sense and Unbreakable. The Sixth Sense for being the only Shyamalan movie that actually succeeds at being in some way unsettling and Unbreakable (my personal favourite) for good all-around acting and a genuinely novel take on the comic book super hero formula. For what's it's worth, those are the two Shyamalan movies I'd recommend if you actually intend to enjoy yourself.
This movie is so bad that it gives away the twist in the opening scene, when Wahlberg is describing to his class that some events 'are so big and can't be explained by science' or something like that, so any sense of mystery or suspense by figuring out what's causing these suicides is instantly depleted. The 'horrifying' suicide scenes are also unintentionally funny, and handled in such a way that when your watching a guy just jump into a tiger enclosure and casually letting a tiger bite off his arms, you can't help but laugh. And you can't talk about this movie without mentioning the 'hot dog' guy, 😂😂😂, my god he's funny, even though he serves absolutely no purpose in the movie. Disagree with me all you want, but this is one of my favourite 'so bad it's funny' movies, to think that they were trying to make it a very serious film.
People don't love Shyamalan. People love the OLD Shyamalan. Sixth Sense and Unbreakable were great films. People hate him now because, inexplicably, he's lost his ability to make good films. Believe it or not there was a time where he was a good film-maker.
The moment you said this is was your last chance to enjoy an M. Night film at the start of this, I just knew "Well so much for you giving Unbreakable a chance" because I knew that ban was gonna happen in the end. There was zero chance that you were gonna like this, This really is just another film requested to make you suffer.
In all honesty, I was probably never going to give Unbreakable a chance. It doesn't look interesting at all. That is the big problem with all of Shyamalan's movies. There hasn't been a single one that I have a lot of interest in watching. So, instead of forcing myself to continue to pretend to care about the hack and his work, I am just walking away from it, and saving myself the headaches.
I know that you've probably gotten a ton of questions from people about Shyamalan's newest movie, Split. It's been out a while now and it's been receiving pretty decent reviews. I personally haven't seen it because I think the concept felt a little far-fetched in my opinion, at least in how it was presented in the trailers. What did you think of it, Emer, if you've seen it? If you haven't seen it yet or don't plan to, feel free to disregard this comment if you want.
Queen of the Frost I just watch it last week for the first time and I loved the trailers and then I saw reviews and all of that then I finally sat down and watch It I can now say that movie is way to overrated I liked it but it did not creep me out I was like so that was it probably one of the most let downs for me I would have to say the visit creeped me out more
I remember when this first came out and the trailer on tv would always show that lawnmower scene. Like oh man this movies fucked up just look at this. Then I seen the movie... M. Night's movies are mediocre at best. With the exception of the 'Sixth Sense' the most recent thing I seen with his name on it and I surprisingly enjoyed it was 'The Visit' but that's only because it was so stupid I laughed the entire movie.
The only good films I have seen from this director were The Sixth Sense, Unbreakable and Signs. His first bad movie was The Village, that was the last movie I ever saw from this director. I quit watching his films after The Village because I heard about the other films he did and those films got bad reviews.
The Village was my stopping point because I was disappointed with the movie. Plus, I saw the reviews of his later films on Rotten Tomatoes and critics were panning them.
After this movie came out and people laughed at it, M. Night came out and said that he had always intended The Happening to be a B-movie and that you were supposed to find it hilarious. Yeah no one bought that line of bullshit for even a second.
Also there's a manga named "Alive: The Final Evolution" that did something similar in it's opening chapters. A mysterious disease causes people all over the world suddenly commit suicide. And it actually manages to be very disturbing because all the victims are all smiling and happy when they do it as opposed to acting bored like the victims in the Happening.
As much as I love Zooey Deschanel both as an actor and singer and as much as I sort of like Mark Wahlberg as an actor, they both sucked in this movie unfortunately.
Judging Shyamalan's talent based on Devil, The Last Airbender and The Happening is like judging Robert Dr Nero's talent based on Wag the Dog, Dirty Grandpa and Rocky and Bullwinkle.
And, both would be justified. Here is how I see it. An artist's work can and should be judged on whatever cross-section of their work you find. If the cross-section you select is made up of bad projects, that shows a fault with the artist, not with the critic. As a follow up, I did not willingly choose those three films. I let my viewers direct me in that direction. They asked for a review of "The Last Airbender", so I gave it to them. They wanted me to cover "Devil", so I did. "The Happening" was not only requested, but bought off of the wish list, so it was going to get a review regardless. It wasn't until after I announced the ban on further Shyamalan reviews that the outpouring of "Unbreakable" requests started coming out. Seems that is the only movie of his work caring about, if the comments of this video are anything to go by. But, sure. Go ahead and compare a shit filmmaker to a renowned actor to prove a shaky point. Have fun with that.
Since you also do Let's Plays, I am curious if you are a retro gamer. There's an RPG called Hero's Realm. If you ever like Final Fantasy or Dragon Warrior in earlier days, you'd love that, and i'd love a Let's Play of it, if you're interested.
Emer Prevost I was just making that particular comparison to help make my point clear that those three films are, in my opinion, his three worst and I would class Sixth Sense and Unbreakable as renowned films. I'm glad Unbreakable has now grabbed you're attention though. It would be a shame to miss out on it. Maybe an r & r to look forward to then?
The only two good Shyamalan films I've seen out of his film library, was The Sixth Sense & Signs, the rest I thought all sucked in my opinion...I wrote off Shyamalan as well.
I haven't seen split yet but I can agree with this, I'd even say Signs shows the beginning of his slip into the 3 terrible movies that shaped the opinion. Unbreakable wasn't terrible but it's not a movie I'd watch a third time and only watch a second time with a friend to see how they react
Out of all the movies you could've chosen to give Shyamalan a chance, you picked this one? Some would argue that he's recently made a 'return to form' with movies like The Visit or Split and you could've watched those because those are nowhere near as bad as this, but The Happening is god awful. Shyamalan originally intended it to be a scary sci fi thriller, but when people started laughing in the theatres as characters were committing suicide in unintentionally funny ways, he went over to stating it's an intentionally bad movie. This movie really began the downfall of him as a talented director, after the awesomeness that was The Sixth Sense, Unbreakable and Signs.

😂

You could watch Split just to get his only good film over with but definitely avoid everything else.
Unbreakable is his best film follow by Split while Glass went back down hill again with his movies again.
"i.e. Fuck you, because nature."
That's my new favorite phrase right now.
Hello, Emer, My name is Josh. I love reaction and review. I find your reviews entertaining. I agree with almost all of your opinions.
This movie should have been renamed "What the Hell is Happening?".
I'd rather call it "The Nothinging"
The tagline: "Because fuck you - nature."
Funny thing about Unbreakable is that it is one of the only movies I can say I enjoyed and the only one of his movies with a twist that not only makes sense but is really fitting and unforseen. I remember watching this. It was so terrible. A scandal to release such shit at the theatre.
"[Zooey Deschanel] can't act. That's sort of a known thing."
Uh...in what universe?
I like Unbreakable, his only film I endorse. You’re right on for trashing this one and probably every other one he made.

Sad thing is Mark usually enjoys the movies he does, a rather big testament just how degrading the project was to sap the joy out of a passionate man.
Enjoy the video, guys.
Happening R&R hell yeah.

Oh my fucking god, this gotta be epic. (EDIT) It was, excellent R&R!

MrMovieLover it was meh. James Macovoy was okay. but nothing to cool.
The Media Raptor for sure I will give him props he was creepy but when he turn into the beast I was out of it like can this end lol
It's like they took a b-movie script and tried to make a serious video.
beware I heard a sequel to split
What? No....
looks like to avoid this movie. Mark Wahlberg is normally is decent. But if writing is that bad
The only good Shyamalan movies are the Sixth Sense, Unbreakable and Signs. The rest of hos films are too Dumb

Not particularly, but thanks for mentioning it.
Yer welc

I'm glad Unbreakable has now grabbed you're attention though. It would be a shame to miss out on it. Maybe an r & r to look forward to then?
Why am I not surprised that he hated this film
would you consider reviewing 'Hell Comes to Frog Town'?
The only film from Shamalayn that I liked was "Unbreakable" since I liked the comic book look to it.
Also, I'm viewer number 666; that ain't good!
This movie is awful but it made me laugh my ass off
This makes me laugh because there was genuine effort and money behind it. It was trying to be good. Birdemic does'nt try to be good.
The only two good Shyamalan films I've seen out of his film library, was The Sixth Sense & Signs, the rest I thought all sucked in my opinion...I wrote off Shyamalan as well.

don't be mad at Roxy ok my elmer
You look great in glasses!🤓
ohhh god....
I was half expecting this to be a so-bad-its-good film for you. Was for me. Yeah, historically bad movie.
THIS. MOVIE. JUST. PLAIN. SUCKS.

'Split' sucks as well. Definitely an overrated movie.
