- The Thompson Submachine Gun, aka the tommy gun, became a favorite of Chicago gangs in the early 1900's. (from Discovery Channel's "How We Invented Guns")

Also, the Tommy Gun cost 120 dollars in 1920, a brand new Model T cost around 450 dollars at the time. Imagine buying a gun that wasnt restricted and still cost a quarter of a new car. That's like buying a 12,000 dollar gun because of its craftsmanship and it's so far ahead of everyone else.
the gangsters did not need shady dealers to get these, anyone could buy one no questions asked until 1934
Exactly. I was just about to write the same thing when I read your comment. Prior to 1934 one could order a Thompson at their local hardware store, and many farmers and ranchers (and gangsters) did just that.
You could literally mail order it and then pay COD to the postman. Back then, when the 2nd Amendment was still respected
Yup!
The good ol days.
Actually, you could mail order guns until the GCA of 1968. When it became illegal. Machine guns however went by the wayside way earlier though.
This little badass was legal until 1934. You could buy it at Sears.

“They may take out the guy they wanted to, chances are they took out a few bystanders as well”- that’s haunting af
take him out where? to a fancy dinner?
@@SehxualPanda yeah they usually have group meetings
The Thompson was more of a gangster gun in the movies than in real life. Just as the Colt Peacemaker was not used by every cowboy in the old west...both were too expensive, for one thing. You see plenty of photos of gangsters with pistols and shotguns, but not so many with Thompson's. The NFA 1934, like other gun laws, was reactionary and took aim at the "bad guns" of the day according to the media of the day and uninformed politicians of the day. Their descendants are still with us. The NFA, though never repealed, is obsolete. It is an 80+ year old law which has been nullified by binary triggers, slide fire stocks, shotgun shell firing hand weapons classified as non-regulated "firearms" under the ACT, legal "arm braces" attached to handguns ....and the fact that the $200 transfer tax for suppressors, short barreled rifles or short barreled shotguns is no longer a financial obstruction. The NFA needs to be repealed. It has been loopholed and technology'd out of relevance. The Thompson itself, a beautiful firearm and a neo-Victorian steampunk work of art in steel and walnut, itself was made obsolete by stamped sheet metal and polymer submachineguns weighing less than half as much and costing 1/3 the price.
Still a classy work of art though. I have one I'm proud of. Everybody wants to see it. Semi.
Hear hear, except for the steam punk part, its CLEARLY Georgian Industrial Revolution
The tommy gun is the heart of the early 20th century and for the mafia and early old style gangsters thats an OG gun thats literally the Mafias gun
Actually, Thompson Submachineguns were bought legally prior to the Machinegun ban of 1986. In the 1920s when tommy guns were being bought by anyone who could afford one, there was no paperwork involved. The black market firearms trade didnt begin until 1934 with the enacting of the National Firearms Act which restricted handguns, short barreled rifles, short barreled rifles and any device made to make a gun quite, today we call those suppressors
What almost every Ganster Movie shows is that all the guns have the cutts compensator at the muzzle. The Model 1921 didn't have that one. The 1928 Model did as did the military versions sold to the UK and the Commonwealth in the 1940s
Ww1: sub machine guns came to late in the war to make a difference
Ww2 assault riffles came to late to make a difference
Tsar Alester yea that too
Tsar Alester well in ww2 they didn’t come in that late
@Tsar Alester Just look at the 2020 voters logs.
It was powerful, reliable, compact and effective, but it was also heavy and expensive.
This is what Joseph use to fight straizo
Tommy gun didn't go wrong.
John Thompson didn't go wrong.
Criminals used it, and gave it a bad rep.
There is an excellent video about the 1921 Thomspon by Forgotten Weapons about this which I just so happened to subtitle.
So, how did you invent it?
I'll bet that thing now is worth over twenty grand! I like the stick mags too. I got to shoot one last summer. The wood was kinda beat but it is definitely fun to shoot. The old man that owned it moved to an old folks home. His grand kid has it now. He also had a M1 Gurand. This is by far my favorite sub machine gun. This gun demands compliance.
I’m sure this was the same gun used in the Bloody Valentine massacre 🤔
Just because it's machined doesn't mean it's always better it's just more costly to produce.
The Soviet Ppsh used a lot of stamped metal and was very reliable, effective, and low cost.
And in a caliber with insane ballistics more desirable than .45 ACP
Cant we get a comparison for the chicago typewriter thompson and ppsh41 of the russian?
I like the drum mag 50 bullet thompson tho :D
Vinnie cannoli has that gun ;)
Thompson is legendary gun
Chicago Typewriter, Tommy Gun, Trench Broom. What else?
"Keep the change, 🪙 you filthy animal."
Johnny from angels,😇 with filthy,🤮 souls and the sequel angels,😇 with even more filthier souls.
"At least my favorite...a Tommy gun,🔫!"
Stanley Ipkiss in the mask of the norse night,🌃 God loki.
This and the Barrett BAR, are my favorites. Both guns that Bonnie & Clyde used, & that they were killed with, as well.... 🔫🔫🔥💯👍🙏🌎
Thompson 1921 and 1928 are the best!
Say hello to my little friend! - Scarface.
My favorite machine gun
The Tommy gun is the same weight of a modern M4 Armalite
The thompson submachine gun was 13lbs unloaded and around 35lbs-40lbs with the 100 round drum.
To this day Tommy keeps getting his money fucking guy gets it in seconds
"how they take down half a dozen bystanders." SICK!!!!
Nice gun
I don't know y it was called the Chicago typewriter we used it more in NYC
Thompson is a most powerful smg in history because it can fire 100 round.
No other smg can fire 100 round like Thompson.
I love tommy guns
Finally! yay
St. Valentine's Day Massacre. 💀
This gun in CoD WWII looks like a minigun xD.
Closing the vid out with Will Hayden didn't age well
The success of submachine guns are what fatherd in assault rifles I think.
Wait til he learns about a desert eagle .50
Seen in Tom n Jerry, know the name in PUBG , search on TH-cam to know more
Im scared to say this...............but i thought that the drum mag was completly full of bullets
50 rounds when full. That must weigh a lot!
Same gun used by mafias
Good
Now fucking make one that kills vampires
Nwicee 👍🏼👍🏼👏🏼
That’s why epic games vaulted it
bergmann mp 18 .
awkward with the side loading luger magazines and heavy to the side with the drums.
It was also used to wreck nine year olds on the fortnie battle royale island.
Lol
Aaaahhh... The Chicago typewriter ,excellent weapon for mobs
You could order one and get it in the mail. You did not need to buy it from "shady dealers" that is a *L I E*
The 1921 or 1928 Thompson > The M1A1 Thompson
I see some common errors in this video
The AR-15 with a 150 round dual drum magazine is much better.
The Tommy gun wasn't successful until later on cause how much it cost to manufacture
almost all of the information included in this video is subjective, and void of fact to back it up.
FUCK!! my friend looks like Grl.Thompson and collect weapons ,,Is he reincarnated??
Maybe edit out the child rapist at the end? Just sayin.
Most Mobsters used the Thompson machine gun
They actually much preferred the BAR the Thompson is a Hollywood myth. They preferred the BAR because it's waaaayy more powerful and punched through most any cover where enemies could hide behind. Whereas the Thompson weak pistol bullets sometimes failed to penetrate car doors reliably.
Joe Vazquez that is very incorrect
Brandon Hulett It's true.
Joe Vazquez. Thank you cheapstakes!! Now people can shoot thier pistol rounds past my aluminum doors to kill me!!
Don't get me wrong Thompson's are pretty sweet but why do they call it a submachine gun because it's not sub nothing it's a pretty big goddamn fucking done I know it's not like it's an MP5 which is that's a submachine gun or a grease gun
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
So, you made this about gangs and gangsters. The Thompson is a perfect machine. This is as unamerican as a Communist.
But guns don't kill people!
White Man that Watches Blacked Paul Joseph Watson!?
Your right. They don’t! Gold star for you.
Right. And?
