WHAT IS A MOUTH ULCER:
Mouth ulcers are common and should clear up on their own within a week or 2. They're rarely a sign of anything serious but may be uncomfortable to live with.
Mouth ulcers are usually red or yellow and appear inside the mouth, on the cheeks or lips. Ulcers can also appear on the tongue. You may have more than one ulcer at a time and they can change in size.

MOUTH ULCER CAUSES:
Various factors have been suggested to precipitate recurrent aphthous ulcers including:
• Oral trauma
• Anxiety or stress
• Certain foods (including chocolate, coffee, peanuts, and gluten-containing products)
• Stopping smoking
• Hormonal changes related to the menstrual cycle
• Iron or Vitamin B12 deficiencies
• A long-term condition - such as inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), coeliac disease or Behçet's disease
• Medications - including some NSAIDs, beta-blockers or nicorandil
MOUTH ULCER TREATMENTS:
Mouth ulcers need time to heal and there is no quick fix.
A pharmacist can recommend a treatment to speed up healing, prevent infection or reduce pain, for example:
• Steroid lozenges these can be quite effective at reducing the pain and may even help ulcers heal more quickly.
• Chlorhexidine mouthwash this isn’t quite as effective at reducing the pain however it may help mouth ulcers health more quickly and prevent them from becoming infected.
Chlorhexidine mouthwash causes brown staining on the surface of teeth if used for 4 weeks or longer. This is a type of staining that comes off after scaling and polishing by a dental professional. For more information on this mouthwash please read the information leaflet and speak to your pharmacist.
MOUT ULCER PAIN RELIEF:
The next treatments don’t really prevent an ulcer from fully developing but are more useful for pain relief. This includes soothing protective pastes, paracetamol, ibuprofen, numbing spray or mouthwashes containing benzydamine and salt water mouthwashes.
To make a salt water mouthwash:
Add one teaspoon of salt in a glass of warm water and rinse gently around mouth. Remember to spit the water out, It can be done at least four times a day for four to five days.
With all medication always read the information leaflet and speak to your pharmacist to make sure you are suitable to take it.
WHEN TO SEE A DOCTOR OR DENTIST:
If your mouth ulcer,
• Lasts longer than 3 weeks
• Keeps coming back
• Becomes more painful and red - this may be a sign of an infection
Although most mouth ulcers are harmless, a long-lasting mouth ulcer is sometimes a sign of mouth cancer. It's best to get it checked.

Just stop brushing your teeth with toothpaste which has SLS. Don't believe my own personal experience, look up the peer reviewed results on it. You'll forget you ever had them, even with cuts in your mouth.

I have one on the tip of my tongue
I have canker-sores that form on the base of my tongue close to my teeth and I can’t talk or eat without becoming very uncomfortable and the pain is pretty bad. I get them pretty regularly, maybe about 3-4 times a year. It’s a genetic thing and form when I stress out or am nervous or anxious for an extended period. They last for 9-12 days and it is a very troublesome experience.
I am glad I found this video. I can’t wait to try some of these remedies. The oral gel never works.

I had four, 2 in my Alveolar Mucosa, where the "lip bridge" is located. Both left and right, it hurts so much and i felt like that part of my lip was gonna come off. Then i had another 2 in the side of my mouth and the outside of my lips.

Edit: 2 years later now and I lost my retainers for my teeth over a summer ago 😂. I went through hell and back dealing with the cuts in my mouth and the sores for essentially nothing 😢

That's terrible. When I had braces, they gave me some kind of sticky, rubbery stuff to stick on the sharp part of the braces, ask your orthodontist for some of that, may help

@@kellyamadii yeah that's the stuff, wax. It works pretty well for stab-prevention purposes from what I remember. Especially when you're sleeping, it's easy for your braces to mash up against the side of your mouth without you noticing.

I have chronic canker sores (I always have one!) I have tried everything and the best thing that works for me is baking soda, either applying it directly on the sore or mixing it with warm water as a rise. It burns like crazy, but it helps. Aloe vera has also helped me (it helped me close a sore I had that had lasted more than 6 months).

I turn 49 later this month, and I never had a canker sore until yesterday. I did not even know what it was. I put some topical treatment on, but learning that it can take several days for it to go away just makes me think, "Ugh, how am I going to be able to get any work done??
I’ve got some sort of bump like ulcer on the inside of my lower lip. I’ve had it for a few months and it’s not painful but can be if something snags on it like when I had braces. Anyone know what this is?
My wife got some medicine inside q-tips at her office. She works in dental. It’s called Debacterol. It stings like hell applying it but afterwards, total relief. Apply once a day and you can get back to eating, brushing teeth, whatever and you aren’t in terrible pain. It puts a coating over the sore. Lasts almost 24 hrs.

I've suffered from canker sores my entire life (almost 60 years now) and ibuprofen and sodium lauryl sulfate are two of the biggest triggers I have for them. I avoid both as much as possible. My dentist has prescribed Lydex gel to put on the sores and this helps immensely to shorten the duration of the canker sore. If I get the Lydex on a sore before it fully develops, it usually is gone overnight and never develops into a fully developed sore.
Is it the gel that has Fluococinide , is it also safe to apply the gel inside the mouth

@@morris859 I have never worried about that and you’re not using enough anyway. It doesn’t take much and the small amount is applied directly to the sore. Just avoid eating or drinking after application or you will wash it away.

My entire life I’ve lived with an auto immune disease in my mouth where I have had at least 1 canker sore at all times. When I was 13-16 years old, there was a moment where I had so many in my mouth that I was put on heavy narcotics just to drink water and my face looked like I had been stung by 1,000 bees. Ive had them swabbed many times to find out what disease I have, but no doctor has been able to tell me why I get them. Keeping my anxiety low and keeping my mouth clean at all times helps me a lot. So now I usually only have one sore in my mouth instead of a dozen.

@@V4mpDxwn my vegan friend always has ulcers because he doesn’t consume enough nutrients. His doctor advised him to have more vegan protein and nutrition. He has gotten a bit better.

Heres a tip
I know that having food when you have this ulcer shit is painful as hell
So what i do is, take an icecube(make sure its smooth not having sharp spots all over it )
And place it on the ulcer before having your food (for about a minute or so) and then having your food
It helps by reducing the pain
This works for me

My canker situation was greatly improved when I started using toothpaste without sodium laurel sulfate. Apparently it removes an important protective film from the inside of your mouth that can make you more susceptible to cankers.

Applying salt on the ulcer works wonders too but morphine may be required before it is administered. if u don't wanna pass out from the pain that is.

On a trip to Mexico I had developed two ulcers relatively close to each other, it sucked but it was tolerable and I still enjoyed food etc. the bad part came when they merged into an infected ulcer that was like 20% the size of my lip. It was horrid, had to get numbing spray just to not be in constant pain, pills that looked like suppositories to heal it, safe to say it wasn’t the best
For some reason it stings when I’m done brushing my teeth and it’s on the left side of my cheek so I have to eat on the right side cause it hurts I’ve had it for like 7 days now I tried the tips but it just stings
One way that works really well is a pink of salt pressed against the sore. It hurts really bad for the first few seconds but it also dries out the sore and kills the bacteria. It works after about a day or too.

Can using antiseptic 2x daily kill the good bacteria that helps prevent and promote good mouth health? I know ive been stressing tremendously and not getting sleep but i also have used antiseptic mouth wash and im just wondering of that helped in the process of getting a mouth ulcer.

Not only are these hell in your mouth, but my lips get very chapped too while I have them.
Put some turmeric powder on it or directly in the mouth and the saliva will turn it into a paste, it will work as anti inflammatory and also soothen the pain a little.
My whole family has struggled with canker sores for as long as I can remember. I haven't had one since I gave up soft drinks 3 years ago. And "diet" doesn't matter. My mom has nothing but diet soda's and she gets em worse than anyone.

I get sores once in awhile on the roof of my mouth. I do have an upper plate but don’t wear it often. Typically a sore goes away pretty quick but I’ve had one that’s been there for about two weeks
I was taught to put salt on it and have for ever. think I might stop
I’ve had mine since late March on the bottom inner lip. It’s painful and embarrassing when I talk. I recently bought some mouthwash for it, and I’m praying that it works. The sore fluctuates in size. As of right now, it’s extremely noticeable when I talk 😔

Hey man I got one 4 days ago and now I have three is that bad? And can they be white I’ve seen it in the mirror close to the back of my gums and how many times did you gargle with salt a day?
There is a huge sore in my mouth about a centimeter away from my bottom lip, it is white in color and it is pretty big, should I be worried?

I have been dealing with a tongue ulcer it comes on both sides of the front of my tongue they will heal up usually around five to six days sometimes he'll be sometimes it will last only a couple days and I see improvements it's been going on now since July of 2018 is when I first noticed them I've never had them ever before it almost looks it starts off small white like kind of like a yellowish white and then it spreads into a ring that's about the size of a pen the circumference of a pain when I'm some worst days size of a small battery the circumference of a small the roundness of a small battery now I've been to multiple doctors they say it's not cancer they say that maybe from going through some traumas in my life and stress what I don't understand if it goes away completely what is causing it is it something I'm allergic to I've been to a oral type surgeon doctor I forget pathologist they call them as what I believe no one seems to know 100% they just tell me it's not cancer in to live with it now they did give me a couple different things the ears nose and throat doctor a couple years ago when I first went in for diagnosis sad that it is not cancer but I should eat a lot more fruits and vegetables and yogurt so I started doing that really no improvement give me this little paste is it okay that gritty and brown and color it is a steroid they said soon as you see it put it on it well I did do that and it doesn't seem like that even helps now they prescribed me a few months ago from the oral patholigist U of M stuff that has a bunch of side effects it is a pointment that you put on your tongue or the infection but it is has high side effects of all kinds of different things so that being said I've been to multiple ears nose and throat doctors no one has done a biopsy yet they prescribed me a mouthwash to but it stings when it starts to come on and it makes it even hurt worst so I just naturally let it do its thing I won't use no mouthwash until I'm Healed and then I'll be good for a couple days and then it'll be back to starting an all sir I mean and it's crazy because just in a day half a day to one day you can see a little spot whitest kind of yellow and then it turns into this ring then the center of that ring kind of gets painful after a couple days then after about five six days it goes away it's like it spreads it starts very small like a. And then spreads Works its way so big and then as each day goes on it starts like soon as it experienced then it D expands after 5 6 days I have not had a biopsy yet which they wanted to do that when I first went to the dermatologist 3 years ago but they said that I could be in pain and have more issues with healing if I do it so I never did it and I just have to live with it but it is tooken a part of my life for the last 3 years I've been tested for STDs all that stuff and I am clear of everything the only thing that I can think of is that 3 years ago in 2018 about March I wind up getting this thing called burning mouth syndrome and within that time that I got this burning mouth syndrome rate shortly after that that that healed up I wind up getting that was a couple months later I wind up getting he's telling all serves and I can never seem to get rid of them I don't know why they came but if they're not cancer like they say why do they keep coming back and heal up completely like as if they weren't there is it something I'm eating is it something that I'm doing wrong I would really really really like to get rid of this
I don't know how true this is, but I've noticed that I get more of these when I use toothpastes containing sodium lauryl sulfate. Maybe just a coincidence but maybe worth looking into. Also drinking liquor without a mixer and unconcsiously biting my lips and sides of my mouth while sleeping sets them off for me.
