One thing I love about your videos is that I never feel like you're talking down to me. I'm an older (65+) gal who is learning a lot of stuff (cramming, more like it) about video-ing and your YT videos are so excellent. Sometimes, with younger YT creators I feel like they are strongly targeting a Millenial Market. I never feel that way with your videos! Thank you so much for helping us older creators!!
That was the best description on how to understand videos and the fps. I will have a crack at this - was very confused about what rate to use but will stick to 25fps for standard in Australia. Will start with 60fps and try out slo-mo. Thanks again.
Justin Brown - Primal Video . Thanks for all the quality videos Justin , you’ve been a massive help to us growing our channel . All the best to you and your family for Christmas and new year Steve and Alex 🎄🧱👍🏽
Thank you, Justin! I never thought about SloMo and my new phone (One Plus 8) has that option! And I have a dog who loves to fetch, perfect to learn how to do it! This is so cool!! Thank you!!!!
Justin, love your videos brother! Question? I edit on FCPX, how can I set my video at 24fps, even if I sometimes record at 60fps. Whenever I insert the first video into the timeline it automatically sets that fps...I have not been able to find out where it can be changed.
When you first create the project, right click in your library and click new project. Then it will bring up settings for your new project and you can change the fps in there! Hope that helps!
Thank you for this, and your other videos. I am new at film making and rely on your easy to follow instructions and advice ( I also watch @D4Darious ). I have a Sony HXR-MC2500 which is my first video camera and I am using Shotcut for editing. I am in a mode of information overload, at the moment but truly appreciate everything you put out here. Even if I have to watch your videos 4 or 5 times, at least I know I will be getting proper, straight forward tutorials.
NTSC is used in US, Canada and some coutries in middle America. PAL and Secam are used, well, in the rest of the whole wide world. Sorry, you struck a pet peeve of mine, making it sound as if NTSC was king of the hill. IMHO, it would have come bette across by stressing the difference between "Capture frame rate" vs. "Playback frame rate" instead of just referring to it as "the" frame rate. But aside from those minor squibbles, I really enjoy your videos and please, do keep up your great work!
Omg thank you Justin you got a new sub from me brother had no idea my phone has slowmo I have a Samsung S7 thanks alot man I just started my own channel been using your tips to help appreciate your help👍
Hi everyone, I am new on slow motion and have a question.. if i have a 120 fps footage that I want to slow down, for example 50%, so I slow it down 50 %, but my final video is a 30 fps..the slowed down shot will be adapted to 60fps or it will be slowed down up to 30 fps?
Why video recorded in 'slo mo' is converted to normal video when inserted into editing software i.e. VN (Mobile software for iphone). Appreciate if you could help!
A huge amount of info here and I want to thank you for sharing it, Justin. In a cursory trial on my S7+ I previously set my front camera to UHD and this is how I took some sample footage. Just looking at my settings again, in terms of quality, UHD is the highest my camera goes. The third option down is for FHD (60 FPS). My question is, should I leave it at the highest setting or are there benefits, other than video size and processing requirements, with choosing a FHD (60 FPS) option instead? (I recently purchased an old Lenovo E32 Xeon with 32 G RAM and a single Quadro GPU)
Justin - excellent video, very well explained. I’ve just started getting into editing, and here’s a question I can’t get my head around - what happens if I mix frame rates in a video? Say I have some clips at 30fps, and some at 60fps. Will I be able to play the whole video at normal speed (in other words, I decide I don’t want to use slo-mo on the 60fps clip)?
Thanks! If your timeline is 30fps and you drop in a 60fps clip it should play at normal speed unless you slow it down or interpret it as 30fps then it will be slow motion 👍Hope that helps!
So if I shoot everything @ 60fps and in the post I can apply 50% (slowmo) to some parts of the clips to have Normal as well as SlowMo all on one track?
A great video can you please do a video on how to edit in b roll or c roll I'm so new to this but I see you have stocks in your video that's what I want for my videos..thanks guy.

Yes, if you shoot at 60fps and create a project that is 30fps; you will be able to slow down the footage 50% to make it play at 30fps 👍
