The Curse of monkey island aged very well and still has very good animation....this game however due to shitty graphics aged horribly. I wish they kept it 2 D

I grew up obsessed with The Curse of Monkey Island, but for some reason I love this game more! What I mostly love about it is the atmosphere of Lucre Island and Knuttin Atoll, the places felt more "there" and "alive" to me, talking to the different characters and solving the puzzles felt more like "events," and you have to give them credit for Lucre Town being one big connected area. I honestly don't know if this game beats the atmosphere of Blood Island/Skull Island for me, the Smuggler's Cave, the Cemetary, Hotel and Cannibal Village were awesome, but I love Escape currently. Perhaps I experienced more depth immersing into the unique graphics of the world. I also liked the end atmosphere of its Monkey Combat and the different music this game has like House of Sticks, Knuttin Atoll, Lucre Town theme. Very unique game imo.
I've been wishing the Monkey Island games get played on Game Grumps for quite a while but between Guybrush's 'sexy voice' and the evil Australian I would especially be interested to see what Danny and Ross would think of this one.

I jumped through hoops to get it to work on my computer a few months ago... only to find that the controls on the computer were more infuriating than any other game I've played recently. I figured I'd watch the long play instead of actually playing it.
@Fester Blats The music provides the atmosphere. You can't turn that off. It's not annoying and neither are subtitles. Some people are hard of hearing and need the subtitles.
Ah Escape from Monkey Island, the only Monkey Island game I haven't played through a million times, well that and Tales of Monkey Island. All the other ones I pretty much know exactly what to do and remember every scene. Maybe I need to play through this again. It's been so long it would be like playing a brand new game! I actually still own my original copy I pre-ordered complete in box with all the fixins. I can remember sitting in the ole Lincoln waiting for the UPS to come on a Friday. Hoping it would come so I could play it over the weekend off from school. Those were the days. It even game with a copy of Grim Fandango!

(Disney acquired LucasArts in 2012, therefore they own the Monkey franchise). He's been trying to reach out to Disney but they don't seem too interested in doing anything with the Monkey franchise at the moment..

Presumably those who chastise the controls are a bit spoilt, yeah sure it can be annoying and could've been done better but the game isn't about controls. It's about the storyline, and the puzzles. In the particular case of this game, it's also about the history and its trueness to previous instalments. Love it.
After all those years, I'm glad to see I wasn't the only that had problems moving around, especially on the map, where he bounced off of every corner. That was so frustrating when played, but it's hilarious to see now.

Just get used to the gameplay, like in Griim Fandango, and you'll have a great time playing this I'm sure.

Agree with the others. I really love the voices, characters, music, etc. but the controls are just a huge barrier to actually enjoying playing. I did play it all the way through when I got it but I've played all the other MI games multiple times, I'd rather just watch this one now.
i wish they'd remaster this, in fact, the backgrounds and structures and everything look pretty good, just need some 4k textures and redo the characters so they aren't so pixel-y. looking back i know it's not awesome but it isn't bad either. i like the colors, not too story book but also bright and colorful like curse of monkey island.

they replaced the cartooney appeal with 3d ugly. It seems harder to animate silly events, such as guybrush stuffing three bags of booty and a treasure chest into his pants. In the third installment, he would open a pocket and stuff it in while his pantaloons got bigger until finally the items settled and he looked normal. However, in the 3d ugly, he awkwardly picks up objects and holds them near his pants until the function told it to disappear. not conducive the visual art style of MI3
I kind of wish they had stuck with the artistic style of the first two games to begin with ... modernize the graphics as hardware improved and possibilities grew, but keep the general style. Rather than jump from to the original style to whole another type of cartoony for the third part and then suddenly jump to some odd 3D next up (some of those camera angles ... why?).
Singit500 ScummVM is a, for lack of a better word, emulator for games that ran on the Scumm game engine. Since Escape From Monkey Island used GrimE, it's impossible to use ScummVM. This annoys me too -.- Heads up- ResidualVM, made by the same people, i believe, and they have made a similar program to ScummVM that runs GrimE games, including Grim Fandango and Escape From Monkey Island. Abit more complex to do (moving files and stuff...) But can be used none the less. Hope this makes you feel better...
This looks like torture. The playstyle of the video also doesn't appeal to me. "Oh look, there's a bar! Let's walk pointlessly round in circles and then walk straight past it. Bars in MI games are never good places to go to."
Hey I have this game on PS2 and I can't get it to save to a memory card, tried like 4 different ones. I can only get it to save once on each card and it won't load the game save if I turn the system on and put the disc in. It says "No memory card in slot 1, would you like to play without saving" when in start up the game, but if I go to Memory Card browser on my PS2 it shows my Monkey Island save on each card. This is the only game that does this to me.....any suggestions?!?! PLEASE help me someone !!

Monkey Island 1 and 2 = Woody Allen / Groucho Marx style jokes. Curse of Monkey Island = Quite close, but a little bit dumber. But this game, I can't tell you how much I hate it. It's not about the controls. It's the writing, the directing, the lazyness (have you seen that intro? It looks like a fucking powerpoint presentation) in the production, the style, the graphics, and the terrible, terrible, terrible and ridiculous situations like the Pool Jumping or Monkey Kombat. Funny only for people knowing the series from there. But if you played them in order, you'll notice how terrible it is.

it was a nice game but definitely the least good out of the series. TOMI is definitely a big improvement The Curse of Monkey island still wins for me, that game has everything!

I'd suggest getting the PC version, it is superior to the PS2
+Classic80sStuff PS2 and PC versions are the same game. The only difference are the graphics. PC version is better, but not superior.

Although Charity James is a wonderful actress, putting an American in the role of Elaine was a mistake. I'm glad Boyd came back for Tales. Wish the best for James, though.
Yeah Curse of monkey island is great. it´s cool too that they made special edition of the 1st and 2nd game. they should make a special edition or something like that of escape from monkey island cuz i can´t find the game download or the grimE emulator for mac os x.
the really bad thing about this game is that it could have been really good. Just look at tales of monkey island!

Lol yep the first Monkey Island game that required a 3D Acceleration Card. I really think it should have had a software rendering mode like Grim Fandango. I was lucky enough to have a high end 1GHZ 384MB ram Gateway with a Geforce 2 GTS and VX1120 22" CRT Monitor. That thing was a beast in it's day. Those were the days

You know I don't think I like how Elaine-whipped in Guybrush in the games after the marriage...He has his Guybrush moments(due to our puzzle-solving mainly) but I would prefer if he was 1) more appreciated 2) witty (I am not talking about drama and horror,you still need the moments of comedy..but all this ''independent women ridicule softer men they actually care about" is getting old

+sara long Because Dave is blind, and Guybrush says 'see you later'... 'SEE you later'. Dave is joking about how he's blind, so only one person will be seeing anything, hence 'that makes one of us'.
As a fervid Monkey Island fan... I was disappointed by this game. A lot.

Monkey Island 1 and 2 = Woody Allen / Groucho Marx style jokes.
Curse of Monkey Island = Quite close, but a little bit dumber.
But this game, I can't tell you how much I hate it. It's not about the controls. It's the writing, the directing, the lazyness (have you seen that intro? It looks like a fucking powerpoint presentation) in the production, the style, the graphics, and the terrible, terrible, terrible and ridiculous situations like the Pool Jumping or Monkey Kombat. Funny only for people knowing the series from there. But if you played them in order, you'll notice how terrible it is.
m4thsz Yes, but, you know, that's more about visuals and so. But the humour is better, at least for me. In fact "The Trial and Execution of Guybrush Threepwood" (Episode 4) is brilliantly written. Furthermore, the game has pretty nice critics overall, even when it's not even close to the big return we wish to happen.

I think this one used stock effects. The explosion in the intro is something out of a "MLG" video.

without the subs on you dont get some of the jokes, like in the lawyers office.
MI2 = masterpiece
it was a nice game but definitely the least good out of the series. TOMI is definitely a big improvement
The Curse of Monkey island still wins for me, that game has everything!
With the 3d graphics the game looses its "charm" somewhat...compared to the first 3...
