  • Length Grain, Cross Grain, and True Bias for Fashion Design!
    In this video I show you the lengthwise grain, crosswise grain, and the true bias for fashion design. First, I show you the grain lines on the flat with muslin. Then, I demonstrate it on the dress form. Lastly, I show you the two main grain lines, the lengthwise grain and the crosswise grain in a ruffle on the dress form.

    Wonderful demonstration, I really enjoy your class and do you have online classes I can take. This is the fist time I really understand how the fabric works. Most people do not explain it as you did. Thank you and stay blessed.

    Thank you so much for explaining this so thoroughly and carefully. I am a beginner patternmaker currently taking a draping class, and this is unbelievable helpful, as it can get confusing at times. A tip I learned...the WEFT goes LEFT to right/right to left, when your fabric is lengthwise in front of you. That usually reminds me on exams :).
    Please continue to make your amazing videos, you are an awesome teacher!

    Excellent video, you really explain things well. These sorts of things you are teaching are the difference between homemade looking clothing and professional looking. They are helping sooo much. Please upload more of these helpful videos. I would love TO SEE A VIDEO of your fashion sketch design, to the draping, paper pattern cutting and finished article.

    This was such a helpful explanation! I never understood before why it mattered - I just thought if the pattern fits on the fabric it's good enough! THis showed me the ways to work *with* the fabric's natural inclination

    Anyway you can do a video on ease? How Does one figure out the amount of ease a finished garment will have? I think this information should be printed on the patterns.

    Love your channel enough to upgrade my dress form. I’m making an historic tucked and corded petticoat. Would it be best to cut on the cross grain with ticks and cording running perpendicular to the crossgrain? Or cut it on the lengthwise grain allowing for easy side openings for pocket openings?

    Check! Although I had heard teachers talk about the Grain Lines I didn't understand the Warp and Weft before!
    I was looking at your Channel and didn't see.... Have you done a video on draping with the Bias?
    I'm working on a Cape (without a pattern) and am hoping to add welt pockets.
    Thanks so much!

    Hello! My question(s)... the differences 'structurally' of knit & woven? Then the draping differences? My last question... the definition of 'ease' on both of knit & woven?
    I really hope you'll dedicate a video to these. It would help a lot! 😊😊😊

    Awesome video Susan learned a lot! I was wondering how you made the ruffle?

    • @susaneliascouture
      @susaneliascouture  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you for your complement and question! Making a basic ruffle is just cutting a piece of fabric the same width all the way down, parallel to the salvage. If that makes sense? I may do a video on the three different ruffles in the future:).

    Excellent demonstration. Thank you! I have a quick question about pulling the grain line - Can you pull a grain line on knits, as well as wovens? Or, is that method used exclusively on wovens?

    • @susaneliascouture
      @susaneliascouture  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Dawn,
      You can only pull a grain on plain woven fabric only. Thank you so much for your praise and question!
