When I was a kid I realized I was dreaming once and tried to force myself to wake up, the dream reacted by begging me to stay asleep or it would die. I've never forgotten that and I don't dream as much as I used to.

    • @thespanishinquisition4078

not dreaming can actually be a good sign. I mean not really if it litterally meant not dreaming, but normally if you "don't dream" what that actually means is that you don't REMEMBER dreaming. Generally we only remember dreams if they're interrupted. If you don't remember them that's a good sign. Hell if anything the fact most people remember their dreams is a worrying sign of how much our alarm-clock-lifestyle is messing with us. That said if you actually don't dream at all as opposed to not remembering your dreams that would be caused by a sleep disorder. See if you don't remember your dream that means you did the whole cycle right. If you don't dream at all that means the cycle was interrupted before REM. If you remember dreaming that means your cycle got interrupted during REM. Hope it helps.

@@thespanishinquisition4078I don't wake up to alarms and most of my dreams end with me gradually waking up and seeing everything get less and less clear in real time.

    • @hellolithy
      @hellolithy วันที่ผ่านมา +6

@@veradistheeggcat229 I think I've experienced something like that as well, though only on the weekends really and not as gradual. It's like you stop believing a dream is real, so you fade out of it until you're left lying in your bed with your eyes closed.
Sometimes when that happens I just lay in my bed for a while longer. Not because I'm sleepy or anything (I'm more sleepy on weekdays because I have to wake early for school), but because it feels comfortable and I can just think about stuff w/o having to be "awake," per se.

I had a very similar experience awith lucid dreaming. I realized I was lucid dreaming and I couldn't wake up, I was transported from my "home" (it definitely wasn't my house but it still felt like home) to some random ass street with nondescript buildings. I just spent a good 5 minutes wandering this street terrified as I was desperately trying to wake up. Nothing about the dream itself was scary but that feeling of complete helplessness sucked

Yeah there were moments where realizing I was dreaming led to me feeling dread, I remember being blasted into what was basically a space wormhole, the feeling of dread was so bad I woke up, but when I did, I was so sleepy I fell asleep again and I just went back dreaming about the wormhole and then wake up again. I woke up like 3 times bc of that dream.
There was also a time I was walking in the desert with my mom as a child and then I realized it was a dream and everything fell apart while my mom kept walking, like the environment wasn't changing. Safe to say my lucid dreams weren't the best.

Fun fact; Scriptwelder is currently working on a new game called Deep Sleep: Labyrinth Of The Forsaken, which is presumably going to act as a kind of Deep Sleep 4. You also might wanna give Don't Escape 4 a look if you get time. It's a really good game, and it actually connects the Deep Sleep and Don't Escape worlds together!

I realized something a while back about the incinerator jumpscare. I could be wrong, but I am seeing a pattern where everything looks normal, you do certain actions, and the "dream world" fully takes effect. Such as Deep Sleep's locked box, Deeper Sleep's note, and Deepest Sleep's music box.
Point is, they could have been minding their own business, doing normal things, and then they realized they were in a dream and "teleported" into an active incinerator. That's messed up.

I looked back at all my friends, then looked up at the villain and asked them, "Will they be ok when I wake up?" He smiled almost knowingly and said, "They'll live on in your next dreams." After that, I woke up. And he was right, I saw them in my next dreams. It was so surreal...

I’ve been able to lucid dream fairly consistently for years, and have only dealt with sleep paralysis once that I can think of, the real issue I’ve had with it is that I don’t wake up feeling as refreshed as when I don’t dream at all.
To be able to lucid dream you first need to become aware that you’re dreaming. I don’t remember doing anything specific to reach this awareness, but I do remember waking up a lot to go the bathroom beforehand, so maybe drink a lot of water before bed and start to recognize the “background noise” of the dream when you get enough awareness in your sleep to wake up to piss. Just don’t use any toilets you see in a dream.

I was able to achieve lucidity once. I was in my bathroom, and did a reality check with the clock. Got really excited when I knew I was dreaming. Looked at myself in the mirror and tried to give myself wings. Nothing happened. I got really disappointed and thought this was actually real life since I couldn't control the dream. When I woke up I decided that since being lucid didn't give me the power to do cool shit then it wasn't worth trying again.

ive only had about two lucid dreams i could remember, and one of them was actually pretty funny, the first i remember was me being in an empty school bus being driven by a bus driver i couldn't see, i realized i was dreaming because the bus was empty witch was a contrast to me normally getting off the bus early, i only remember testing one thing and that was "can i look down at my feet?" and when i attempted to i realized i couldn't physically look down.
the other lucid dream started as a nightmare i had a few days after graduating highschool (witch i have a lot of bad memories of) i was sat at a desk on a time limit with an enigmatic test i couldn't understand and complete, and i was crying cause i didn't want to fail it, at one point i lifted my head and remembered "wait, didn't i graduate two days ago?" then i instantly woke up, confused as hell what just happened

Once I had a dream where I was literally like "wait, I think I'm dreaming," then brushed it off and went on with my dream business. I had that dream twice too, so my brain must've thought it was good.
Also I was having a nightmare that was videogame themed. It started as a zombie invasion in Terraria as far as I can remember (for context, Terraria is very similar to Minecraft, at least in Survival Mode). Then the characters in the house started arguing with each other, which was weird because Terraria diesn't have talking like that, just basic auto-generated lines if you interact w/ them. My breaking point was when it said "Chapter 2" on the screen, and I was playing a werewolf in first person, which was breaking so many established conventions that I realized it couldn't be real, so I sent myself to a lavish dinner party to get away from it all. I'm not good at parties though, so I woke up.

i've never managed to properly lucid dream, gaining both control and awareness of my subconscious, but in the past two years i've made a habit of writing down my dreams and it's often times resulted in me becoming sort of self-aware in my dreams while still being out of control. there are times where i feel myself acknowledging aspects of the dream outside of the dream itself, such as mentally commenting on if the situation's realistic enough or not, and other times where i know i am asleep and yet can't do anything about it beyond following along with the dream. there are countless times where in my dream i write down the contents of my dream, as if i'm done with it and rethinking everything once it's over, but i'm not. the deep sleep trilogy feels so incredibly interesting to me because of that, and. well. honestly, it gives me an additional fear of my own dreams. because i can't ever force myself awake, and yet i still feel the distress and length of my dreams, and sometimes i'll go weeks without dreaming but other times i spend weeks having long and detailed dreams. it always has an aspect of being overwhelming, too, because it's just... dark. i don't picture and visualize things clearly (by far i am more of a thinking-by-words person) and this shows in my dreams - while i know i am in certain places and certain settings and go through with it there's always a feeling of claustrophobia with the inability to see things as brightly as possible in reality. i have never had the fear that i am dreaming while i am properly awake, because if i was dreaming it would be so much darker. anyway! this trilogy's story seems extremely interesting, and the gameplay intrigues me too. i may have to check this out myself sometime soon :D

As I child I had very intense and repeating nightmares which caused insomnia. Through therapy I learned how to induce lucid dreams to stop those nightmares, which did work. However, this lead me to develop sleep paralysis and some forms of derealization and depersonalization. Other than that, I still have very life like dreams that are often repeating or work like movie sequels with me in main role.
My point is, don't try to lucid dream. It's really not worth it unless it's used to help you mitigate or solve a problem. This game is a very interesting take on this topic!

I always loved the attention to detail these games had. I was also pleasantly able to learn the developer is working on a fourth entry in the franchise that will have a larger scope. Please give the demo a try sometime, I'd highly recommend it.
I'd like to point out a small nitpick, since it's often one I see about Lucid dreaming. Lucid dreaming is just being aware you are dreaming, volitional control is not inherent to lucid dreaming. The reason many come to the conclusion is because you are more likely to exert control with greater awareness. Many often get frustrated or give up when they can't figure out how to reshape the dream to their own desires, as in reality it is a skill that takes time to develop.. So to me these games have a much more accurate portrayal of it than most media.

Okay, now that you’ve covered both the Don’t Escape trilogy and this one, you HAVE to make a video on Don’t Escape 4. Easily Scriptwelder’s magnum opus, and ties directly into the Deep Sleep games.

Context about lucid dreaming - not the game, mind you.
I have _very_ strong Narcolepsy symptoms, and the relevant ones here are constant dreams _and_ that they're constantly vivid. I figured that, if I were gonna be stuck sleepy all the time and dreaming so often, I'd at least try and get them being lucid so I could... I dunno, have control of at least _something_ about them.
... But of course, it's very difficult to tell if I've been successful or not, because naturally it's very tricky to become aware of when you're dreaming, much less when your awareness is already crippled. But hooo
When I _know_ it's worked, it's alarmingly vivid. I've had to be careful in double checking with friends and consistent things when awake, because the dreams, lucid or not, are extremely easy to confuse for real memories.
All in all, I haven't had any real terrifying experiences. Sleep paralysis, yes, but I got that often even before trying at lucid dreaming anyway, and it also doesn't really make me panic either. Nah, feeling how my mind feels like it's slipping away is horrifying enough as is; memories don't save, everything always feels like pushing through a thick mental fog, and the eternal fatigue and tiredness is a losing battle, whether I choose to fight it or not.
I've got an overnight sleep study scheduled soon, so I'll very likely know for certain soon enough.

3:28 funny to hear this right after saying most games have backwards ass puzzles that don't make sense, if you want to touch something hot don't wet the cloth. Water conducts heat better than cloth, which is why oven gloves shouldn't be used when they are still wet

oh hell yeah we love this game series. scared the heck out of us when we were younger, made us afraid of lucid dreaming for a while lol... the concept is still a little too close for comfort to sleep paralysis, for us

You should try playing 1000xResist, it's a walking simulator with non linear storytelling and a very emotional story. very similar to omori. Can't say more, would be spoilers.
