It seems like they have made all the newer model cars impossible to work on unless you have a full-blown garage and all the latest equipment. Sometimes I really do miss the old days where you could go out with a box of old wrenches and pretty much tear your engine completely down LOL. Thanks for sharing brother.
You're my hero. I have a 2007 Dodge Magnum SXT AWD...was a good car...was. After trading it in I've sworn never to own another Dodge. Nice looking cars but absolute pain in rear to work on.
wyattoneable I love my magnum, '07 SXT AWD, BUT...She's just gotten to the point where I fix one thing and something else breaks. Past two months I've dumped nearly 3 grand into her...mostly suspension parts. Last week I had an exhaust leak repaired, then fan shroud blew which caused, by one fan blade - I have two, the radiator to blow out. Then transmission line blew...which has costed me three days of work.
Much better, understanding,,I was looking for a dipstick, what's a transmission service quarts to replace?..,I didnt use scanner, yet shifts alittle rough..,yet dont want to overfill it
Great idea for a vid . Temp gun doesn't like a shiny surface sometimes. My ford has quite similar info on checking level. I do know that at the factory nobody is doing this on the line , its a predetermined amount that goes in and that's it. LOL
That's a good point about the temp gun. Plus I could have left the dip stick in there longer to see if it would have heated up more. Regardless, it was a pain in the butt just to check the oil. But we do it in part because we want to learn. And we like buying tools!
Very informative video. I like the new Wyattoneabel Garage banner very cool. many or most cars & trucks after 2000 are way to complicated requiring lots of scanners & special tools & computers to service them. I applaud your effort to continue learning how to work on them . By the way I wish I had 10% of your organizational & book keeping skills I suck at such things always have.
Your doing fine brother. Taking on that Corvette project was a big chance but you pulled it off. I hope to be getting into the same thing soon. My biggest challenge right now is finding vehicles that I will enjoy working on and that will sell in my area. That may be a work in progress so I'm thinking I'll buy cars I like and see what happens. Have you've had good luck at actions?
I have not gone to a auction in a long time. U have to be careful what U buy there most have bad titles . Also get the blue book app on your phone works great always try to buy below low trade in value plus deduct for repairs of Corse then use NADA book when U sell to people NADA is higher than blue book always has been that's been my guide for years.
Gee if this is the future I will go back to manual transmission like the wife's car and our 1977 Mini. I actually prefer a manual but my auto is easier on my hips. Liked the video.
Ken Allen I hear you Ken. Way too complicated. But as with anything, once you do the research, but the tool, but a dip stick... yeah, stick with the manual. 😊
You know the deal. You buy the tools, gain the knowledge, research the information and do that actual work. Or you let someone else do it. Mike might be on the right path!
keep the lipstick off your dipstick!!! Nice job Wyatt! not sure but I think Eric O. did this on a Dodge vehicle before. BTW- nice scanner!!!!! how silly that you can't leave the dipstick in!
I'm lucky I found someone who would sell me a scanner at half price! (Thanks) I don't know how shops like Eric's can keep up with the special tools needed to do a job. Plus all the research and continuing education. Cars are so complicated now, but maybe that's just an old guy missing the days when I tuned a car and all there was to do is change the points, plugs and make sure it was timed...with a timing light.
Hi JT. I'm not sure I understand your question. What are you referring to "gettin a good temp". Are you able to read what the temperature of the transmission fluid is? If you know what the temperature is I can look at my chart and tell you what what the level should be. I hope that helps.
@@yungmeezyboicbg4l452 The variables of temperature and what kind of dip stick you are using will make a difference in "What is normal". If you have the same dip stick I used and the temperature I showed in the video and the same chart I used in the video then 60 is normal. I had a scanner that read the temperature of the transmission so you may have a different method of measuring temperature. Cars have become so complicated right? I wish I could remember how many quarts I used, that would be the easy way to change your oil. Good luck.
They really don't make it easy these days do they David ? When I first saw you pull up that chart I thought you were going to do a weight and balance calc !
It's way too complicated. Maybe that's why I like watching old equipment be put to work, nice and simple. Oh God, if I had to do a manual Weight and Balance these days I'd be hosed. Thankfully our dispatch department takes care of that for us lazy pilots. :)
It's getting that way right? With the expense of tools and of replacement parts it's hard to know which way to go. This is a hobby so buying tools isn't a problem (at least for me, my wife might disagree) but the research is getting crazy too. This video should have been one minute long but there's so much involved now.
Oh yeah, no doubt. Manufactures have to comply with government regulations, but in this case their just doing to be cheap and get your money. Thanks for the comment.

Oh the other hand, your Camaro and Corvette are sweet rides! Thanks for the comment.
Very true,,yet you can take your vehicle get serviced and no proper fluids checks nor drains, and fills
I admire your views towards all the new technology and how you cope with it, plus one of the best shops I have seen!!
Thanks man! I do love this shop. A plan that started when I was 16. I finished it when I was 58. Yeah, I'm a bit slow. LOL

Bill Baylis Sorry to hear that. So far this has been a good car.

Granted it doesn't help I live in upstate NY...where weather and road elements literally eat vehicles. But still no one makes vehicles to last.
Very useful information. Interesting there's a hole for the dipstick but no dipstick. That's some serious penny pinching
Hi Jon. Unfortunately this will only help those DIY'ers out there if they have a scanner. Crazy right? Thanks for coming by tthe shop.
Its there to add fluid
Wyatt you are very organized. You truly have a passion for learning. God Bless You. Were alike
Thanks so much for leaving a comment.
Thanks Richard!

Hi Marcos. Sorry, I don't have this car anymore so that means I don't have the service data. Thank you for leaving a comment and good luck.
@@wyattoneable yes sir blessings to you and your family
Some good information. Yes the scan tool is the only way to get anything done on a late model car today. Enjoy your weekend
I go to work tomorrow so I can afford another scanner! (ha ha)
Use a metal coat hanger and straighten it out in a vise or pair of pliers

No dip stick? Crazy! I don't have a scanner. Very cool and interesting! Sorry for your friends loss!
It is crazy but this is the way it is these days. It's hard to be a DIY'er anymore because of the price of tools. Thanks for watching.
Look up B&M they have a permanent dipstick for the nag1 gearbox you can leave in
Thanks to you, I just ordered mine from B&M! Much appreciated for the tip! 🎉😊

Same here. I prefer manual (except when the tendinitis flares up).

The easy rider poster on the wall makes me think of the good old days . Coincidentally I have one on the wall in my shop too .
That movie changed my life. Thank you for the comment.
Good video Wyatt, good info !!!
Thanks Norm. The video is way too long but it took everything I had to cut this down but keep the good stuff.
What has the world come to when you need a calculator to know how much fluid is in the trans. Crazy huh. Good info Wyatt. Have a good weekend
You know the deal. You buy the tools, gain the knowledge, research the information and do that actual work. Or you let someone else do it. Mike might be on the right path!
No need for transmission temp, just check in the morning using ambient (room) temperature

That's not a bad way to look at it. I didn't get notified about your comment. I'm glad I came back to check. Nice to see you here buddy.
Cool

They make it so easy these days.... 😆
I know right? Stupid cars.
That's why I am an older vehicle hold out

there making vehicles these days harder and harder to work on them your self
