- At the end of the auction, as a thanks you to the people who attended, he performed his live set 'A Strange Hour' that he's been touring with over the last 18 months. Assisted by Paul Kendall. Great sound in the venue, as noted by Paul and Alan, so hopefully a good film to watch. This is Part Three.

I have to disagree. A piece of wood is not an instrument however. Combined with other pieces of wood it may become one but on it's own...it's a piece of wood. The skill of tuning said pieces of wood is what makes it an instrument. It's personal preference obviously. I'm just a big fan of Alan and music. If I want to hear playback I'll go in my studio...

So many of the comments from "fans" on here are laughable. "It's all pre recorded", "he might as well not be there", all of this from people who by the sound of it have no idea how a gig based on loops, samples, live effects and filtering is either prepared or run. Pathetic. These shows were great, he did a great job putting them together, and some of you guys really have no clue.

I hope one day, Alan will join once again DM. Their story can't finish without him. Martin writes, Dave sings, Fletch claps, and Alan produces & mixes. How the DM'sounds has lost without him, especially on tour.

Reading over the comments left over the years, I see a lot of what I will generously call 'misunderstanding' in regard to the gentleman to the left of Alan. Lots of inappropriate name calling and lots of disrespect. Is it not obvious the man has creative talent and an interesting ear for music. Do not be so juvenile to judge based on ones appearance. If you are fortunate enough, some day you will be the older one, and hopefully your mind has opened enough to allow you to have learned something.

Kind of hard watching this because this set was done on the same day as his auction took place. It had to be hard to part with so many things, his home and studio. He also looks very tired here. Hoping things are much better for him now.
Did he sell his home as well? What was the reason?
@@yevonah it was just alot of DM things he kept in boxes. A drum set he played during SOFAD tour and a guitar that Martin played.

I'll go so far as to say Depeche with Alan is one of if not my favourite band ever, without Alan they just seem washed up has beens.

I couldn't have said it any better myself. Alan, while very talented isn't exactly selling millions of records on his own; yet he will always have a fan base because he is good at what he does. Even he said in an interview, "that Martin Gore is a far more prolific songwriter than himself." It took the right front man and vocal, the right words, and the right sounds to create the emotion, miss one and it's not amazing or complete. DM has had moments without Alan but it's hit or miss.

...Alan is good and I miss his involvement with Depeche Mode, but I do think he should be cultivating and helping other young bands or musicians in the way Daniel Miller helped him, Dave, Mart, and Fletch become what they became. Either way, he will always be amazing to me. His work ethic, focus, drive and his discipline to put the time and detail into what he achieves/achieved is a testament to his mind and determination. I wish he would team up with more artists/singers/songwriters.

Adrian Pesola Alan solo fue un musico acompañante para DM. Andy y Martín hacen a DM. Ellos hiban a tomar la deaicion de dejar fuera del grupo a Dave, Si es que no salía del estado en el q se encontraba. El poder q tienen Andy y Martin en DM es mucho, prácticamente ellos toman las decisiones en DM. Dave solo es el vocalista.
Los fans sabemos lo mucho que Alan aportó a Dm, tan es así que luego de partida el grupo no volvió a ser el mismo. Mejor se hubiera ido Andy, que no hace nada más que aplaudir 👏

In the terms of club performance Alan did a good job, actually. As well as in preparing material for it. I guess it's the problem of the state of embarrassment and, maybe, non-understanding of Alan's input in this performance. I'd definitely love club music if all DJs could reach this level of working with club music.
I'm sure the audio quality is limited by the digital camera that filmed it. This probably sounded amazing in person. That said, it's just a series of Alan flavored loops.
By comparison, DM's success is built on a three legged stool -- song writing, original hooks/loops, and great vocals. Remove any leg and the result doesn't stand up. Would be great to see Alan team up with new songwriters and vocal talent, or at least apply his experience to launch the next wave of synth based bands.

Same here. He is so good on synths I find it bizarre. But I've noticed 80's synth bands like Ultravox have done away with banks of synths and rigged up a midi keyboard to a laptop for reliability and speed. But it doesn't look or sound as good to me personally. Still I miss Alan's sound shaping with DM.

check out the album's since Alan left ...it's 22 years since he did .....barrel of a gun ...it's no good ..precious ...wrong ....sooth your soul ....that's 5 decent songs since 1997 when ultra was released ....look at the quality on sofad ..violator ..mftm ..black celebration ......all with Alan ....I rest my case .....and Alan remixed the whole violator album including enjoy the silence which was an acoustic track till he got hold of it ....yes Martin wrote them but Alan was the brains

I agree.. I have so much love for Ultra, Delta Machine and Spirit and I am a very old DM fan since the begining of their career pretty much. I miss Alan but never say DM sucks becuase that is not true. Their albums are still all great. Nothing will replace the Alan years but DM is still going strong and their current Global Spirit Tour proves that.
