“Don’t worry about missing out on other people’s lives, worry about missing out on your own.”
WHOA that was such a powerful quote. I just recently deleted tiktok and IG because I’m a mom of 3 and started to notice my screen time was out of control. I realized I’m missing out on so much of my kids life and for what? I realized that I used social media as an escape, a way to numb.
I’ve been off for a couple weeks now and I’ve been seeing a lot of videos like this pop up on TH-cam. I feel like I’m actually doing little things that are moving me forward, helping me grow and allow me to focus on loving my kids in their little (sometimes overwhelming) stage. I’m learning to be okay without my dopamine hit.
Thanks for sharing, you definitely have a wonderful creative eye!!

Thank you so much for sharing your own experience from the perspective of a parent. I think even just being able to recognise the ways it's negatively affecting your life can be really hard in itself, so it's amazing to read how you have made a huge change by stepping away! Thank you also for your kind comments about the video! :)

you don't realize how toxic social media is and how dysfunctional your way of thinking becomes until you've eliminated them. The problem with this is bigger than ourselves. The problem is that there are literally billions of people in the world just like this. I seriously think that social media is going to bring about an involution in human culture and many other aspects.

Totally agree in the part of "being bigger than ourselves". For many is a form (the only one sometimes) of selling their small business products. It's insane how I still sell my art there yet - even telling everybody I hate that thing! lol

“Don’t worry about missing out on other people’s lives, worry about missing out on your own.” I am sure you don't know how much that quote meant to me, aside with all the other things you've addressed... I needed this video! Not only it taught me to be aware of myself, some of the pros and cons with a perspective of your own, but I found this journal to be comforting, and it got me to be more patient, leading me to listen what you're saying. Even if I'm nine months late lol, tysm for this and have a happy 2024!

Slowing down to follow your own pace in life comes so much more easily when our feeds are not flooded with the timelines of other people’s successes. There are joys and successes in our own lives that hold so much value, especially when we choose to look for it. Social media often contributes to a cycle of dependence… whether it is reliance on others, their opinions, or their example that we may try to embody. Discarding the recycled patterns of mental distress that stem from social media allows us to live intentionally without caring about others’ perceptions of our lives. As you have mentioned, this helps us to grow more confident in our own authentic selves and be comfortable in our own skin. Thank you for sharing these wise words of encouragement.

This is one of the channels that gave me the courage to start my TH-cam channel 6 months ago about self development. Now I have 480 subs and > 100 hours of watch time. I know it’s not comparable with others but I’m still proud I started because I’ve been learning so many lessons that I could haven’t learned without getting started in the 1st place.

@@thewellnessjournal I sincerely appreciate such kind words! When I was a kid, all I wanted was to have a career that pays well so I can buy whatever I want but now that I’m grown up and went through tons of setbacks from losing tons of people in my life, getting lost in the world with full of life traps, being ridiculed for pursuing my dreams, having so many people tell me that I’m merely wasting my time creating a meaningful content online, and so on, I can say that long-lasting happiness can’t be bought or earned because it comes from within us.
Continue to grow as a person and I’m so glad that you’re part of this journey!
I’m hoping to upload my next one this month, which is more than an hr long. I’ve been working hard for many months now with tons of effort to present it in the best way I can. I hope that many will enjoy it! Thanks so much again for your support! ❤️

Love the video! I deleted all of social media for all of the reasons that you mentioned. I’ve deleted it a few times before, 9 months being my longest streak. I’ve had it back for the last 8 months or so and it’s been really bad for my mental health. Like you said, comparison is the thief of joy. I was comparing myself to so many people and it was making me feel so bad about myself in some areas of my life and it had to go. We got this friend, we don’t need social media 🌞. Thanks for the video, it made me feel better about my decision to leave social and let me know that there’s others out here stepping offline as well!

I deleted all my social media accounts. Since then my screen time went down from an average of 10 hours to 3 hours. I been more productive from getting my insurance license and grades improved for college. I was able to get a girlfriend and getting my life together. Those applications are designed to waste time. I can careless of other people to validate me. I’m next getting myself a flip phone and an old iPod. I am also looking at getting dvds and old media. I truly miss times before social media!

Great video. I struggle with this. I used to have it yrs ago and deleted it completely. My close friend kept nudging me to get it again bc I take a lot of photos. I love taking photos/videos but then feel “pressure” to post, most of the time I don’t post, then I feel like I’m “backed up” on it and it doesn’t feel good. Also I spent some time on there today- I feel like it scrambles my brain and I don’t even appreciate my surroundings or pay attention to my body, for example I find myself sitting in an uncomfortable position for a half hr while scrolling bc I wasn’t paying attention to myself or the present moment. I deleted the app off my phone. New subscriber ! 😊

I agree with you about TH-cam, I see it as an educational platform for people with attention spans, you did the right thing & im considering deleting it as well, whilst I do get Islamic reminders on social media, I still see it as a waste of time & I don’t like how surface level everything where has to be a perfect slide show when in reality that’s never the case. I also don’t like the false sense of importance it gives people. I used to suffer from FOMO but I don’t anymore, so I’ll definitely be getting rid of Socials! Great video!!!
