- We raise/grow all of our own beef, chicken, eggs, milk, vegetables, and some fruit. What are some MORE ways we grow and make food to keep us from buying as much food from the grocery store? That's what self-sufficiency is all about.

Your children are so lucky that you both provide this life for them. I was raised on a dairy farm and it was wonderful!
I want THIS for my kids so bad!
Hopefully in the next 5 years
Awesome please adopt me , i'm 62, lol
We get all of our dairy /meat from a farm … we gotta start somewhere
Couldn’t have said it better !
I couldn't agree more! The farm life is the BEST life there is, ever! I will have my own farm someday in the near future after my education from college and from the university. I already have a plan for that, so I am prepared. I am a student in college right now (by the way, it is my first year so I am blessed)! So I am going to continue with my education and go on from there. 😉
You guys are very relatable, real, and honest. I hope you never lose that on your channel. Thanks for all your content! My son and i have been learning a lot
Thanks so much!!
This is just what I needed
I agree it's a pleasure to learn so much from you. You are really encouraging me.
So instead of purchasing cooking spray, you can actually get a bump based aerosol bottle with a spray nozzle from like pampered chef or possibly amazon and put olive oil in it. You pump the top and then the spray nozzle creates a mist of the olive oil (or other oil you like). We LOVE this thing.
That's sounds like the perfect Christmas gift... 😉
Mom gave us all one of these spray pumps years ago, love it! ❤
Thank you, I just ordered one. ❤😊
I use one also. It can be annoying to pump often instead of having one fluid spray like an actual aerosol oil can, but it doesn’t mean it’s not worth it.
pump sprays have never worked well for me is there a trick?
As a wanna-be future homesteader, I am really happy to have found your channel as a reference to any and all of my self-sustaining and sustainable gardening desires! Thank you so much for the work and time you put in this channel, and for allowing all of us around the world to utilize your knowledge and resources! I hope you folks have a lovely day, and happy farming! :^) I'll definitely recommend this channel anytime to my farming friends!
Thank you so much! Very kind and motivating comment!
I agree, same for me. In Russia this was our life, prossessing chickens anytime ourselves, and have neighbors help when we doing a cow or pig.
But I got adopted by Americans 20 yrs ago and America unteaches you everything and instead of self-sufficient you completely dependent to the point of slavery, right. Well after 2020 realizing the reality that is coming down the pipeline with their Great Reset UN and WEF and how they just might starve us into compliance, I realize I need to go back to my roots but have no clue where to go outside of US and where to start or how to even do it. It's painful to see how America literally robbed all the younger generations of this knowledge and parents didn't notice the importance of it. But it's all about perspective, If we only knew how volnurable we are we would want this knowledge not AI.
But anyway im at 1% now, I got one thing going is that I wake up at 4am and go to gym and eat anything good that I can that our God made for our good, but besides that it is frightening. My husband understand we must go to his country since he had a lot of friends and family and land is tax free as of right now but will we be able to before 2030 God willing we will, otherwise this digital prison cells will close and we stuck here Matthew 10:28.
So don't know when you planning on doing it but we must do it sooner than later.
What a privilege it is to live like this, freedom, peace, happiness, eating healthy organic food, this is truly a blessing, the best wealth one can ask for, I am currently praying to get this life...
❤ I’m drooling over your storage areas!! Also I love your teamwork! You’re lucky to have each other, and your kids are super lucky! God bless you all. 🙏
Thank you for the kind words 😊
This is the life I want to start building for my little family. This is beautiful! Great job guys 🙌🏽
Never stop dreaming! Go for it...it really is a beautiful life😊
It's so encouraging that you and your husband obviously share like minded goals for your life, your family and your farm.
That is the foundation of a stable and happy and productive marriage.
Your lifestyle reflects your family values.
I love your channel!😊😊
Thank you so much!
Yes it's such a blessing when both husband and wife have the same mind set and goals for their family!!
Michelle is super woman!! You two are amazing!! So inspiring!! My family of 10 lives in Kimbolton, OH. Your content is fantastic! God bless,
Wow, thank you!
Loved watching Michelle telling her stories. She is a natural, and I like her idea of getting (her recipe to taste) the actual amounts down on paper. Most great cooks, as she stated cook by taste, and that works for them, but not many are that talented.
I’m praying I can get to this point to where I don’t need to go to the store for anything. I can make it at home where it’s safer and healthier.
We may not be able to get to the place where we don’t have to go to the store for anything, but it sure is nice to not have to buy as much, and to have healthier food!
Safer for sure in so many ways.
I'm soooo glad to see young people like you living a sustainable life. When the refuse hits the oscillating device, so many people will be lost because they don't know how to grow anything, fix anything, cook anything or ...really DO anything! They'll be coming for our stores and gardens!
Ghee (homemade) is my fat of choice for cooking, sautéing, greasing pans, etc. It’s a great way to make shelf-stable butter as well. But for toast, butter on bread, hot veges, etc, I still prefer butter.
Many thanks for the elaborately produced video. It is very valuable to me during harvest time. the cottage cheese looks great, the rich yellow from the full-fat milk makes it valuable and nutritious. As a medical nutritionists i can only congratulate you on how well you eat. This is how you all stay healthy and the children grow up in the best circumstances. have one good week, God bless you
You're welcome! Glad you enjoyed 😊 I really hope we can give our kids a great start in life. Hope you have a good week too!
I really enjoyed this video. The two of you are so real. What you’re providing your kids is a lifetime of good health. We are what we eat. Thank you. New subscriber.
Thank you 😊 Glad you’re here!
Great job to see you both so young and on your homestead game.
Buttermilk can be easily made to add to your cottage cheese. Mix 1 cup whole milk with 1 tablespoon of white vinegar. This equals one cup of buttermilk. Hope this helps!
Keep up the great work!
CG in SC
Thank you! Wonderful tip!
she had her own buttermilk from making her butter....
Y'all are doing Amazing!!! Any burden you feel from the homestead community to do something a certain way, throw it off so you can keep running your race well. It's not for you to bear it. ❤️🙌🏼🕊️
Thank you so much 😊 Michelle especially needs to hear that! I’m a little more ok not caring what people think, but Michelle has a harder time with it. She’s doing well, but feels the pressure.
@@morethanfarmersI think everyone wants to share advice and that’s how we all learn. Just keep in mind everyone means well, but things can sometimes come out with a different tone than they meant.
A healthy, beautiful life always begins with appreciation for the land that provides it. Your family looks very happy, balanced & healthy! More people need your knowledge....❤
Right on!!
Oh wow!!! What a dream (for me) to live this lifestyle. It looks so intimidating!! I often think that if I was to do something like this, that I’d need someone to help me through it.
It is a lot of work, and there's a learning curve, but just take it a little at a time. We're a decade in!
Staying out of the seed oils also makes you much more resistant to sunburn! I have extremely light skin and now I just tan instead of burn then tan every year lol
I've noticed that I don't sunburn as easily but I didn't know it was the lack of seed oils - very interesting!
you two are so fun ! I love the wins, and the losses- cuz lets be honest, we all have them! This was a win for sure! nicely done ,Michelle!
Thanks so much!!
First time watching your channel. You two are so good together. I really enjoyed the content, but more enjoyed how you both are so in to what you are doing. So much information in such a short video.
Thank you 😊 Glad you enjoyed!
There’s so many homesteading channels that I’ve come across since I really started to give this life some serious thought but just came across your channel today. All I can say is Wow! The more I learn, and I’ve learned a lot from you guys already, the more I realize how much there is to consider when planting or growing just about ANYTHING. Haha. My goodness it’s kind of overwhelming. But I know it’s all trial and error and you have to learn and start somewhere. I have 5 acres and I feel like I have the perfect space to start becoming more self sufficient but I struggle with procrastination. Watching more of your videos might just give me the motivation I need. Thanks for sharing your life and process with the rest of us. God bless.
That's so good to hear! Thank you. It can be overwhelming, but especially if you try to take on too much at once. We started out with babies in diapers, building a house, starting a garden, having chickens, and getting a milk cow pretty much all at once 😬 NOT recommended 😂 Take it one step at a time. Maybe start a simple garden one year, then get chickens the next. Get comfortable with that before diving into a milk cow, get good at a few simple garden things before adding more variety, etc. You got this. Have fun too!
Oh my gosh - so refreshing to hear your comments on why you don’t own a freeze dryer!
😁
Great information about herbs, drying and making teas. Thank you very much. God bless y'all and keep growing. P.S. I have basement envy! ( I grew up in Nebraska and always had a basement, but no basements or root cellars here in TN due to rock and high water levels).
I buy Amish organic cottage cheese and yours looks exactly like what I buy from them. Give yourself a break! You did an amazing job! Thanks for sharing everything you do on your homestead! I so struggle with the tiny 3/4 acre we have and homeschooling our 2 kids as one completely rebelled. If you ever have a free moment can you share how to start your sourdough starter? It would be most helpful. Cody, I so appreciate your testimony as well. Wish you and Michelle lived closer, although Ohio is only an 8hr drive. Thanks for the inspiration! Hoping for a dairy cow someday
Thanks for the support! As for the sourdough starter, I did make one on my own but it wasn't very robust. A friend offered me some of hers and I couldn't believe the difference. I really do believe that starters become more robust over time. So if you know a friend who has one, that would be a great option. You can also order a bit of starter off of Etsy. They aren't expensive at all and will save you a lot of time and grief. Keep dreaming about the dairy cow😉
Your doing good momma ❤😊
Michelle, you are so correct on the "HEALTHY" Store cereals. BTW It was a real pleasure meeting you last night. Awesome family
Nice to meet you too! Small world 😊
My little girls thought that was just amazing that a famous tv person talked to the. Thanks for taking the time. Much appreciated.@@morethanfarmers
That drying rack 👌😍
Brb.. going to find a jobsite with leftover screens 🤣
😂
Michelle needs her own show "Homestead Woman"!! You guys are totally awesome! I so admire everything you do to live such a happy, simple and healthy lifestyle! Btw, are you adopting? 😊
Same, are they adopting from another country? hah
Thank you! And no...we have no plans to adopt at this point😊
@@morethanfarmers, darn, I was hoping you'd wanna adopt me so I can learn how to homestead correctly. You guys are amazing!! 👏
@@ajrichardson3871 me same
I love how one of the kids was scooping cottage cheese out of the bowl!! Lol You guys are awesome!! I glad I found your channel!!
I've been scratch cooking forever. I grind all my corn meal and flour. Fresh veggies even in winter, grow lights etc. Plus I live in a condo. So no farm. Grow veggies in grow bags. During covid I was all set.😊😊
Love it!!
WOW..UR GRAPEVINES ARE GROWING SO NICELY 🍇🍇🍇
Yes! We're excited...now to learn how to trellis them properly😉
I like you guys ! you teaching people what way they suppose to live healthy & cheap way , this is great lesson for the people have big land like you ! we can live organic way if we all wake up together, we can even live without technology!!!❤❤❤
SO much knowledge contained within this young couple, I’m so impressed.
You guys should get gamma lids for your buckets, they're so handy!
You guys are wonderful!
Usually people discover the healthy way after serious health problems in mature age. I wonder where your wisdom came from at young age - my guess is from parents?
Partially. A lot of it started when I (Codi) had some serious teeth problems. A friend recommended a book, and it got me started on the healthy track. Michelle was always more that way, and we grew into it together.
I enjoy foods fresh from the farm. I don't even go to grocery stores. I go to farmer's markets for the ingredients I need because farmer's markets sell the most healthiest and the most humane foods and products ever! I don't even buy bread, pasta, butter and other things, because I make them at home. But I still go to farmer's markets for the ingredients I need for all that because I live in a city. Never was fond of the city life because I was born and raised in the countryside (not on a farm but in a trailer park). But I am hanging in there. I know God is in control and He will bring me back to the countryside on His time! His time is far more perfect AND better than my time. For with God, everything is possible! ☺️🙏🤗
I love it! Keep at it 😊
@@morethanfarmers ☺️
I don't use rennet for my cottage cheese, I use fresh lemon juice. It's nice and moist, l don't want it dry either.
Me too. Whole milk and lemon juice or white vinegar. After curds are cut, RINSE IT. Then add a sprinkle of salt and a few tablespoons of heavy cream. Just like, or better than store bought. Great videos and great life. God Bless!
@@lindmarcella Yes! That sounds like the same way I make it! I just made a batch of dryer cheese, the same way. But I wanted to be able to spread it on graham crackers. I just made raspberry jelly, from her recipe here, so I wanted to have cinnamon graham crackers, cheese, and raspberry jelly.
This is definitely one of the best videos you have done. As a family of 7, we have to raise as much food as we can. We also make all of our breads, tortillas, crackers, etc from scratch. We grow much of our own medicine as well. I wish I could hang my herbs, but without air conditioning, it gets super hot here in Oklahoma. We do dry what we harvest in the fall. We also make our own soap and shampoo, lotions(tallow is wonderful for the skin), balms. Our next goals include finishing the root cellar and turning off the electricity completely. Slowly but surely we will get there.
Love all that we share in common! It's encouraging to see others live this way. God bless you and your family ❤️
Wow! Sounds like you guys really have it going on! Definitely an inspiration. And I really love that you are slowly working towards your goals rather than trying to do it all at once and burning out and giving up completely!
It is refreshing to see two young people, so knowledgeable about the old ways of doing things. Where do you find women that know how to make cheese, homemade bread, medical, herbal remedies, and this day and time?
Few and far between for sure! 😁
GREAT SIMPLE SCREEN DRYING👍👏
Great BREAD😊
OK😂Great END CLIP.. And I☝️Just Happen to be Eating Toast & Cottage Cheese this am💕👏👏👏GREAT WATCH🌈💕🕯️☕️
That’s great 😊
Wonderful information thank you ❤
You are so welcome!
Fantastic video!! That drying rack is 🔥🔥🔥 😄 We hope to be like you when we grow up. 😊
Haha...Thank you!
I’m so a new subscriber! You guys make me hopeful that homesteading is possible for me and mine. I’m probably really late and you have probably figured it out already, but I make my own cottage cheese because I eat so much! Like 2 big tubs from the wholesale stores in one week. So I do the yogurt boil setting on my instant pot and then after it’s done I put 1/4c lemon juice or white vinegar(as a last resort 😉), 1/4tsp salt into the 1 gallon of milk and let it sit for 20/30minutes. Drain and add a little whipping cream to the batch. That is the closest I have gotten to the store bought ones. We don’t have rennin readily available here in Hawaii and I’m very impatient waiting for things to be shipped.😂 I probably will be binge watching all of your videos tonight. TBH. 🫠
Thanks for the tip! So glad you’re here. I hope you can find your way to homesteading, and I’m glad we get to be a part of it!
In spite of excessive heat during the last 2 weeks here in our area of Arizona, I did harvest two cucumbers this morning - I have a tiny garden so am really happy to have now harvested five cucumbers on the one plant (have 2 more cucumber plants but they are not yet bearing). I support the bush cucumber plants using tomato cages and I have found that works fine (the square tall type at Home Depot or Lowes or Tractor Supply, Menards, etc.). Abt. Cottage cheese - most store type have a lot of salt. Don't know if any or how much was used for your home-made scratch cottage cheese. Glad you enjoyed the finished one.
Wow I have gastritis can eat tomatoes, milk, coffee and it’s driving me insane. I just dream of having a homestead who knows if most of us will ever have one. But wish you nothing but blessing and success
Thank you so much! Blessings to you.
I've been binge watching! Love your content and family! Great find! Nurse Judi in Scottsdale AZ and E. Minister. Prayers for you 🙏🏻 all
Thank you so much!
I watch a wayyy too much TH-cam, but this is the first ever video of yours I have seen. I will be binging on your channel as soon as Thanksgiving is over (4am TG day here). I must see how you have such huge, beautiful, green, producing plants in your garden!
Awesome 😊
I admire your team work and mentality, you guys are such a power couple!(from our glimpse here on youtube)
Thank you so much!
You 2 are so cute. I love your videos and bloopers!!!!!!!
Your wife is awesome and the way your doing this together is commendable keep up the good work
Thank you! Will do!
That's amazing that you are able to grow and raise so many things on your property! We are on a few acres but within city limits, so we have a lot of restrictions on what we can raise. We have chickens and may get goats, but that will probably be the extent of it! I love how you shared ideas that we could try even without having lots of land. I recently learned sourdough and am hoping to get a second dutch oven to bake more bread at once!
Chickens, goats, and gardens.. sounds like pretty solid homestead to me! Maybe you could also do sheep and rabbits for meat.
Wishing you the best what a beautiful family.
Thank you so much!
You both are great parents, it’s great to see and learn the way other people do things in life and why, I think it’s fascinate it. Great video.
You should be so proud of yourselves I think you are a Big Big blessing to all that see your videos May the Lord prosper you at All times and guide you as well.from Florida
Thank you! 😊
If you turn your butter into gee you can store it on the shelf in a jar and it is good for frying.
People keep sayin that so I guess we’ll have to try it 😊
Hello there 🕊️
I learn so much on your channel!!!!! 💛
The fresh cheese/cottage cheese looks perfectly fine. Don't forget that the store baught cottage cheese is made with more chemicals which makes the cottage cheese separate. Plus their milk is a lot lower quality than yours. As I know from my grandparents homestead this is perfectly fine fresh cheese, which can be turned into lot of different fresh or aged cheeses. And this kind of cheese gives a super European stile cheesecake. 💛
Mmm, cheesecake 🤩
I would like to hear more about the stinging nettle because sometimes our yard gets taken over by it
It's a great "herb", but yes it can take over!
I got a knife like that from my hubby for christmas and its 5 years now that knife is basically always on the counter. Loven it
Love this !!!❤
Now I see why so much food, very good idea and way healthier. 😊
The PAM spray can be replaced by a reusable spray bottle filled with a good quality oil like coconut, chosen foods avocado oil or California olive ranch oil
Pls. show how the drying rack was made.
Will try to do that!
I’d love to see how you manage your sourdough starter and then the official recipe you made in this video 🤩
We’ll try to get that in a video sometime!
I make basic cottage cheese with full fat milk and lemon juice. Heat it and put in the lemon juice. When the curds form it’s done. I just drain it and it keeps in the fridge for a week or so. I add salt pepper and herbs and garlic and then use it over pasta
That’s really cool!
Just added you guys to my Hero List.
That's humbling, thank you 😊
If you get rash from stinging nettle while picking, look around for some plantain, chew a little and put on the rash. It soothes instantly. I make a salve from plantain.
Good to know, thanks!
Just came across your channel. You guys are enjoyable and informative. Also, so happy to hear not everyone thinks you need a freeze dryer. 🙂
Haha...awesome! and welcome to the community!
Yes to that!
Love watching you two. I watch over and over. I do not know where you get your energy ❤
You are one remarkable young couple you have given me a big shock tonight you're brilliant.
Wow!! You guys are A M A Z I N G!!!! Love that u grow, make and store all you need to live!!! All cannings/preserves look delicious Michelle, beautiful job!! I'm in awe of you both!Yr storage area and homebuilt shelves are the best Ive seen!! All the best❤
Thanks Celine! ❤️
Everything looks beautiful-What do you use to keep the bugs from eating your leaves on your plants ??🌱🐛
Thanks! There are a lot of different things we try. The two main ones are diatomaceous earth and kaolin clay (Surround).
The carrots and parsnips store in the ground all winter into spring, just mulch before frost.
Wow you had such beautiful and healthy looking garden plants and herbs.👍
i should be doing my classwork but somehow i ended up on this video and i am in love.
Haha 😁 Glad you're here!
We were on a project in Ukraine, and lived next door to an older farming couple. She made cottage cheese for us several times a week. It came out more solid and we broke off chunks of it to eat. It was really good!! A different texture than what we get in USA, but was a wonderful treat for two hungry people. 😉
Wow, that sounds amazing 🤩
Yes! Recipe book please! ❤️
I always wrap the base of my zucchini plants with aluminum foil as they grow to help prevent borers. They are so destructive.
OH wow! I am absolutely going to try this!
👍Mount Rainier hops,💚💚💚 was a plant that was given to me. It tastes like black liquorish. I like it to make a tea. I just thought I would share that with you and enjoy your videos. Thank you for sharing. 🤠🐢
Wow! This video is awesome! I have never done any videos but watched a ton and i can tell there eas A LOT of effort into editing this. 👍💪👏👏
I love finding refreshing new channels!
I am going to subscribe 👍
Thank you so much 😊 Glad you're here!
My goodness 🤩 PARADISE 💕
Thank you, this vlog is an eye opener and I learned a lot , thank you and more power on your vlog❤
That guy is built! She is a work horse.
Omgosh you all do everything perfect and right
You're so kind.. even if it's not true 😉 We try our best, but there are lots and LOTS of mistakes.
Can you make a video of how you make all the different canned tomato sauces. Love your channel guys, just know it’s gonna blow up
Thank you so much for the encouragement and positivity! It's truly what motivates us. We are planning to do some tomato canning videos in the future and Michelle is going to do her best to nail down some of her recipes to share!
I can tell how healthy you eat, your skin is beautiful!
Thank you 😊
Your beef tallow is what we called lard. We'd get a 5 gallon can of it at a time from the meat market. Growing up we never used vegetable, canola. Coconut or olive oil. We were always healthy.
That’s really cool. Lard is similar to tallow, but lard is made from pork fat, tallow is made from beef.
@@morethanfarmers you're right. I forgot.
Congratulations on your success.
Doing a great benefit to your kids!👍👍👍
Thanks Jorge!
I absolutely love you guys. Great video!
My husband and I are disabled and retired. We've done raised bed gardening for the first time. I was very proud of our tomatoes and potatoes. We don't have to have big bed since it's just he and I. I'm 64 years old and I've been canning ever since a child. Every summer vacation I was at Grandma's helping her in the garden and learning and learning how yo preserve food for at least a year.
Congratulations on a beautiful home, family and garden. Keep up the good work and teach your little ones well.
Love and prayers from Tennessee
That’s really great that you can still grow some of your own food! Thanks for the encouraging words.
Just a reminder on the freeze dryer you make all your food before just in case of an EMP or a CME OR Massive food shortages. And besides your generator wont work unless you have it in a faraday cage ahead of time and you wont be able to get gas for it because the gas pumps wont work or the trucks will not run either and all your food in the freezer will spoil. But other than that you guys are amazing HATS OFF TO YOU GUYS KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK.
This might be one of my favorite videos you have made. So informative and simple and to the point!
You can make buttermilk at home with just whole milk and a little bit of vinegar. Let it set for 5-10 minutes and you have buttermilk.
it's good to air dry in a dark room as the less light exposure the better
this is my second video of yours-as somebody who does a lot of processing I'm talking to Dad there you want to grip your knife especially your french knife over the hilt of the handle-that is with your curved index finger forward against the blade that is the correct grip-hold it the way you've been holding it and wave it around the blade is disjointed from the handle if you hold it correctly the blade is one with your handlle and grip xo superchef !
This has fast become one of my favorite youtube channels. I usually watch videos multiple times cuz I can't wait for the next upload. Great job both of you 😊
Wow, thanks! So glad you're enjoying it!
Thanks for doing what you’re doing educating the world
Growing up we butchered a hog every year and my mom rendered the fat into lard. She did it in the basement kitchen but you could sure smell it upstairs. When cooled, it was pure white and was used for frying anything and made the best pie crusts!
Sounds great!
You guys are so sweet...you look alike ( i mean that in a good way) The kind of parents you are being to your babies is so beautiful and honorable to the gift of parenthood. Well done you teo lovebirds ❤❤❤❤❤
Well thank you 😊
absolutely LOVE this video, and love how real u guys are! keep up the amazing work
