When company in Seattle offers for 5+ years Houdini production experience with knowledge of VEX and C++ just $40/h (May 2020) it is a point to think about if you just start, is it worth at all or not. Not sure about whole industry at the moment, but "glassdoor salaries" tell that level of compensation seems to be very low for FX and gamedev/films now. Yeah, it is fun and interesting, but for living it is low pay... Hope that I'm wrong about it.
This is a good topic that I think deserves a video as well. I’ll see if I can cover this, but I want to make sure to back it up with statistics and data. This may also be more appropriate for my finance channel: th-cam.com/channels/UEUzoYeMqlAIH1HnFcnxBA.html
@@peterclaes5918 please do make a video about that Peter! Most resources out there always try to avoid these questions, which leaves us students very uncertain about what we should expect, and what we're really getting into.
I completely agree. Most good FX Schools are very expensive for what a normal FX Artist salary is. Unless you work your ass off, and/or you're talented where most studios would hire you immediately, most people struggles or wont be able to afford to maintain a family with kids, mortgage, student loans, etc without the financial help of their partners. But hey! we do what we love doing, and the industry knows.
Pretty sure it depends on where you live and lots of other factors. The range is pretty varied with animators in general. Here is a podcast where Disney animators talk about how much animators are paid, putting FX artists in the same boat here: www.animationhappyhour.com/new-blog/episode-8-lets-talk-money
Did you leave the youtube thing? Where are you? No activity since a Year now!

This is exactly what sometimes scares me of getting into this field.
