Not all deadheads hate JM. I play guitar- I have to respect him. The guy is a fantastic player. Try stepping onto that stage under Jerry’s shadow. Most of the people who talk crap about JM’s playing either can’t play at all or they are guitarists from Dead cover bands that spend all their energy trying to sound exactly like Jerry. JM has the skill to do tribute to Jerry and throw in Jerry-isms like chromatics etc while still being himself. JG was probably my favorite player. And I started as a blues and rock guy. You can’t like rock or the dead without liking the blues. Most people aren’t aware. JG was my fav but so are the 3 kings, chuck berry, srv, hendrix, page, clapton. JM loves all kinds of playing and he brings a much bluesier take on Jerrys stuff and I for one dig it. I respect JM for taking this gig. Try replacing Jesus, see how christians take it. Not well, would be my guess. JM didn’t need this gig. Yeah, he has some poppy stuff- but you can’t tell me that “Slow Dancing in a Burning Room” isn’t a guitar classic. That whole album is good. It’s kind of cheesy to pick on musicians for making pop music. The whole goal of music is social. The whole point of music is to have people enjoy it. How can you mock somebody for being successful at music? Do you think JM would trade his fortune to be a Jerry clone named Davey from podunk? I ain’t mad at him lol. Rock on JM. From a deadhead and JG lover- good job bro! Right on. And JM always says things about guitar that make me feel less alone or less crazy. How he hears music, or how he spent so many hours playing guitar alone in his room preparing for the day he would get to play with somebody else. Sure he’s got an ego and has said some wild shit. But who wouldn’t? Who’s perfect? Who’s never said something out loud that could have embarrassed them in an interview if anyone cared to interview us?
I really don’t get the hate. If you hate JM that alone should make you respect how he took this gig even more.

Who told you deadheads "hate JM"? I've never heard of such nonsense.
