I didn’t know the small predator engines didn’t have charging systems. I have a 670 in my mud mower and it has a charging system but it only charges when the RPMs are up at around 3600. I ended up putting an alternator on mine, because I have a ton of electrical stuff to run. But I like how yours is simple just an engine that you pull start. Besides that, great video, keep up the good work! I’ll hit the subscribe button too.

I believe the 420s come with a charging system off the shelf and some of the later model 301s. 212s are good, cheap, reliable engines. It has plenty of power for what I need it to do. Just had to get a new 3/4 drive pulley for the belt. Very easy swap! Thanks for the comments and the sub!

From what I’ve learned so far, stators charge once RPM are increased. Every instruction I’ve seen says accelerate to full throttle to determine charging rate. Essentially, whenever you’re actually mowing or doing other activities the battery is being charged.

In my case with the Predator 670, the majority of time I’m riding is fast idle or part throttle. I’m not using it to mow or anything like that. Like I said above it will charge a battery at sustained high rpm. However on my other small engines, most of them Briggs, they charge at idle too. The Predator’s alternator isn’t as efficient as the Briggs are I guess. So that’s why I added an external alternator on my mud mower. Despite the lesser quality alternator on the Predator, I have no complaints about the motor itself. It has been a real powerhouse so far. Especially with the slide carburetor and headers! Governor delete too!

I have worked on a few riding mowers, and they will make power at mid RPM usually around 12.5 to 12.9 volts. In most cases it needs to.put out at least 13.5 or more. For electric clutch . That's usually at max RPM my 25 horsepower Kohler puts out 14.25 volts at maximum RPM.

Hey those lights look real good, you said you are using those connectors temporary, here in southern Ontario I use weather pac terminals. I bought the crimper and sockets and I make my own pig tails with weather pac. I hook them all the same meaning I can interchange my pickup lights,my quad lights and they will work. Also if you use dual wall heat shrink you would not need liquid tape. You should’ve used a male and a female connectors so you wouldn’t reverse power when connected.

This is one of those videos where I would have preferred to see the details much more closely. Also to have the process explained in more detail. I’ve never seen liquid tape used under shrink tubing before, but in thinking about it that makes perfect sense.
Have you found any issues so far with the lights being recessed? I imagine that cuts down on the field a bit.
I use SS pop rivets sometimes and have had to back them up with washers so they don’t pull through plastic.
    Very workmanlike job, Levi! 👏

Can you tell us what all was involved in putting the 212 predator engine in there? Same size pulley? Same bolt holes etc etc

My newest video of doing the diesel engine swap is the same process as swapping the predator. It’s fairly in depth. Hopefully it can answer some of your questions! Not a hard job but isn’t a direct swap.

Thanks for watching! I’ve been thinking about doing another 212 swap on a roller I have. If I do I’ll make a video about it and post it to the channel. Pretty straight forward swap. Making the PTO work is the only tricky part but very doable !

@@Wyatt_Saunders212 would be plenty for that. That’s what I did with mine. And they are very dependable engines. I’ve built and installed dozens and I’ve never had a failure. Change the oil and keep clean gas in it and you won’t either.
