Thank you for posting this video of Sir Patrick Moore. He is sadly missed in the Astronomy circles. They don't make them like him anymore and he was very intelligent. I share his views on life outside of our planet as well.
I spent a morning there with my wife. I am not 'Into' astronomy but Patrick invited us to Farthings for a few hours. Genuine privilege just to sit and chat. Very in Awe of him at that moment.
That would be £435 in todays money. Doubt he had that kind of money aged 10. What the reporter said is probably correct, 7 shillings in 1933 would be around £20 today.
In our home solar system: MARS is the SMALLEST planet nearest the SUN then MERCURY which is larger than Mars then EARTH which is larger than Mercury then VENUS which is LARGER than Earth all the way up to PLUTO which is the LARGEST planet in our home solar system RUSSIA SOVIET UNION ETERNALS ETERNITY
I remember him as an absolute legend when I was 8 in 1968 and piqued my interest in learning, opening up the world of education and the wonderful possibilities of life!

A true national treasure, and the man responsible for my interest in astronomy. Very much missed.

Was he gay?
No, I don't believe so. Sadly the lady he loved was killed during World War II.
