I moved from Chichester to America in 2011, and I’ve been really homesick lately for a while. This video was not only what I needed, but also had a history lesson. Thank you for recording this walk
trust me you don't, its full of tory OAPs and youth offenders. As well as heavily populated in Serbians that flood the streets trying to sell their goods. Don't even get me started on the Swiss, as they flock in their thousands swarming the local parks, trashing the place with empty bottles of cider and vodka.
Another well done video! Great tour combined w/ the town's/area's history. Chichester has a lovely city center. It reminded me of a set off some Disney movie.
@@RichardVobes I am from Eugene, Oregon USA. So the oldest houses & storefronts we might get the privilege of seeing out here are from the Mid 1800's when pioneers came out on the Oregon Trail. In 1984 I was part of a program called the young diplomats program where children from all over the world met in England. And one the places we were taken was Chichester, England. I will never forget such a beautiful town . I even took pictures with two Bobbys. They were very nice. Thank you for the tour of Chichester. It brought back great memories.
We had an F1 car at the Festival of Speed at Goodwood in 2015 and visited Chichester. Loved every minute of it. I particularly remember the Butter Cross and the Church (and the Barbour jacket I bought in one of the shops :) Thank you for the tour of the town. I learned so much.
Loved it. Chichester was "my old stamping grounds" in the very late 50's and early 60's. Beautiful. I live in Canada now, but every couple of years get back to England but only twice have managed to get back to Chichester. So ... this year (2018) I shall try and include it in my one week vacation!
And ..... I shall hoist a glass of Guinness in my favourite pub (which you showed), The Fountain Inn on South Street. Strange how some places you visit in your late teens feel more like home than home itself! I shall visit your TH-cam site again and visit some places I wish I had seen. Thanks for the videos.
I’ve just come across this video of yours, made before I’d discovered you. It was interesting to see you walking the streets I’ve walked myself so many times. Thanks.
So nice that the Cathedral spire is still such a magnificent landmark and has not been swamped by modern buildings, unlike the skyline around St Paul’s in London.
On a serious note, Chichester is a beautiful town reaped in history. The architecture is exquisite. It reminds bit of Colchester as the Roman's firmly left their mark in both towns.
I am of Sussex heritage, but never knew much about my family from the region as I grew up in Norway. But I remember going there a few times as a kid, and the trip down memory lanes watching your videos, from Chichester to Arundel brings back a lot of childhood memories! Thanks
What a nice Hello you say at the start of every video. Its very simple yet gives a subtle tone to what will follow. Another round of Delightful exploration.
Can't believe you started outside the world famous old Shippam's factory and didn't even mention it! Been making spreads and cured meats since the 18th century and supplied food for the entire British Naval fleet and was a mainstay for the Victorians. They were granted Royal Warrants to His Majesty King George VI & Queen Elizabeth II.
When the central tower fell in 1860 it left one heck of a void and that took a whole lot of sweeping up. Unfortunately the Normans built economy money saving structures and walls were constructed of dressed ashlar (stone blocks) and both faces and the middle was simply flint and rubble with a dollop of cement but to be fair it had lasted some 700 plus years. But their cement wasn't a patch on the hard Roman & Saxon stuff and for a week or so, with the weight of the massive tower pressing down, that middle core finally disintegrated and spewed dust by the bucketful every minute until, when the walls had finally lost their integrity it was disaster time. But with that weeks warning the fall of the tower and spire was expected and nobody was hurt or killed in the collapse. Thanks again for a most interesting video Richard.
