  • Welcome to another episode of cheap Tuesday today we are looking at one of the cheapest pedals on the market the KOKKO Compressor. This tiny little pedal is a clone of the dyna comp/Ross compressor circuit but is nice and quiet (for a compressor) and has a BOSS cs-2 style attack knob.

      how does this pedal map to : Attack, Release, Ratio?
      i am guessing:
      Attack to Attack,
      Release to Sustain
      Ratio to Level

    • @JimijaymesProductions
      @JimijaymesProductions  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@turinreza it's a dyna comp style circuit so doesn't really have seperate ratio and threshold, sustain is amount of compression, it is kind of like threshold but due to the circuit it acts a bit like a peak limiter when low and a high compression ratio when higher up. I believe the attack is more like a release control it affects how long it squashes for. Level is just level, that said it works nothing like a traditional studio comp so you really just tweak till it sounds good.

    Fantastic compressor, I use also as booster and sustainer. Love my KOKKO compressor.

      can you do david gilmour tones with it ? i mean is it good enough for fulfilling its role as compression and sustainer ?

    I just got mine, beyond the switch, which I feel is kinda cheap, it is a fantastic little compressor. I love the DC and the CS2, which I’ve had both of, and yes, this does feel like a combo of both. I don’t hear the noise some people complain of. $24 is very much worth it to me. I pray it holds up. The sounds I get make me very happy.

    My Kokko Compressor is arriving today. I need it to get a good sustaining sound envelope and prevent peaks and clipping on input to my Laptop DAW. Looks and sounds great - been using compressors for years. Composing and recording again, so I need a new one that's cost effective and delivers.

    I have one, and I like it. If you are like me, and never had a compressor before and just wanna try it out, I think this is a great option. I use it more in the studio, or if I have to play live at lower volumes and can't get my tubes to the point where it compresses naturally or for stuff where I'm mostly playing clean. Also nice for plugged in acoustic and for bass and I'll use it in the studio sometimes too. For it's price, it's a pretty cool pedal. Seems to have a warm tone and somewhat of a soft, squishy kind of sound to it, but I like it.
    I think though in the future I'd like something that's a little brighter and spanky, but this will do for now. And that's why I got it, to get used to compressor pedals and figure out what I'd like from one. Most of the stuff I do with guitar doesn't really need it, but it's nice to have a compressor just in case. Kokko's booster pedal is really nice too. One of the loudest boosts I've heard, and has a two band EQ, and it's also cheap. I kinda want to get their whole line TBH, even though I don't use pedals much. But for their prices, why not?

      Thanks my setup has changed alot since this video, I believe here I was a weber aatenuator to get line signal and ir's in cubase and a tbone small condenser for my voice. Now I'm in an apartment so my amp goes into a react:ir load box and ir loader and I either use the tbone or an at4050.

    I have this pedal and it's a great basic compressor. It's much quieter, therefore more usable then my xotic sp compressor that I dumped on craigslist like the load of crap it was. The sheep ate it up cause it said xotic. I would still like the wampler ego mini cause of its additional features that help when I'm changing styles and guitars all the time.

    Hey dude, could you run a mic from a 3 pin to a jack plug into this? to compress your voice?

    • @JimijaymesProductions
      @JimijaymesProductions  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mic level is below instrument level so might not work too well, you could run into a mic pre first and there are devices out there designed to run mics with guitar pedals. That said I'd recommend other devices instead of this for vocals.

    Hi, cool review. Tks. Is this a true bypass switch on it? Some sites say yes, other do not mention it. And it s not written either on the pedal.

    • @JimijaymesProductions

      @@JimijaymesProductions So do I, and it is an analogue circuit - if it makes sense. A dptd switch - (why dont all effects have true bypass? Anyway)

    • @JimijaymesProductions
      @JimijaymesProductions  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@ymelfilm buffered bypass is a necessity on big boards, even on small ones, I have at least two buffered pedals on my board and needed to shift some around otherwise the loading from the capacitance was too big. The non buffered non true bypass switching is unnecessary and awful but not done that often anymore.

    Ótimo video como todos os do canal. Tenho um compressor desse. Pedal ruim demais. Chiadeira horrível. E uso uma fender toda blindada com aterramento e mesmo assim ao ligar o pedal é uma chiadeira chata. Não recomendo

      @@serginhomuller, o ruído pode ser muitos fatores tipo, o nível de ganho do compressor, cabos, fontes, a energia do local, lampadas fluorescentes no local e o rapaz acha que a blindagem da guitarra, se é que foi bem feita, vai tirar o ruído de 60hz dos single coils.
