Ian a professional painter in the states just want to say your work ethic is amazing you cut NO corners, you do your work the right way, your vids are good encouragement to me as a painter, as you know a lot of the attention to details that we prrform no one ever sees once the paint goes on yet you take the time to do it right. Thanks Ken
The plaster is loose. Is there any reason why you would not use expanding foam or expanding adhesive here in the way that you have in another video also dealing with deep cracks. Many thanks.
Hello, thank you for a really informative and clear video. I’m just starting to explore DIy on my old house. Just taken wallpaper off in a room and big crack and plaster literally falling out the wall😱. Feel reassured 👏🏾 after watching your video that house is not crumbling around me. I think I prefer using expanding foam into crack than the backing plaster is that ok? Thanks
@@PaintingandDecorating Hi thank you. Just seen & heard you say, its fix, bonding and gap filling...perfect. much easier than mixing powder adhesive. 👍🏾

Yes, this is an old technique works ok but not as long-lasting as the foam and slow drying. The new way allows you to paint the same day.
Nice
Hi what would you recommend as a ‘filler’ for the inside of an exterior wall and what do you recommend as a filler for an interior wall?
Polycel do some good fillers.
I tend to use bonding as it sticks well
stephen leaper will
Yes
Can use Pu sealant?
You should try rock solid by Toupret very good product
Hi, should you always score away at the crack all the way through to the brickwork?
No, not all the time, but if the plaster is just crumbling then best to go deep for a good fix.

@@PaintingandDecorating hi me again is there any brand that you particularly recommend or just a expanding foam?
@@donnafranklin7908 we use Soudal but as long as it's gap filling expanding foam it will be okay. Thanks

Is it just me, but shouldn't you get to the source of the crack.
There could be a bigger issues behind the plaster.
Old age was the source of the crack. But they will hold for a while yet.
May I know which product you are using? There are various type on the market. Which one is easy for newbie?
Under coat plaster is all about the same really, some may be different colours. gypsum thistle undercoat plaster for hard wall. Thanks
What shall I do if the crack in the plaster is raised on one side?
OhThatsMal you can cut back the plaster on the raised side and do a patch plaster repair.
Painting and Decorating Okay cheers mate
What ratio do you do your PVA to water?
1 part PVA to 4 parts water.
I’ve seen you use PVA on quite a number of your videos, but I don’t know why?
PVA is a glue and when diluted soaks into plaster seals a porous. Which allows things to stick a lot better.
Thanks for that! Keep up the great videos!
@@dtr406 Thanks.
@@ols1634 sand and a coat of diluted PVA then two coats of your emulsion.
👍👍👍👍👍👍
Thank you.
Nooice!
Hiya. Could one use bonding as an alternative?
Hi yes you can as long as it's been sealed with PVA first.
straight pva or water:pva 5:1
