Even though I do not know Japanese, I do own the Magical archives to look at the concept art, so, amongst other things, I did not know that how the card suit symbols were picked/decided was addressed prior to Cater’s Platinum Jacket card. When I saw a fan translation of Cater’s newest birthday card story (he is my favorite character) I thought seeing, and now knowing that, was really interesting. I thought this was the first time it was addressed. Well, I guess it technically is, for the game at least.
I remember being both intrigued and perplexed that the character models for the Ceremonial Robes for Ace and Deuce already had the cards symbols on their faces since they weren’t sorted into Heartslabyul yet. I kind of wondered if it could be because there was only the version with the marks and not one without as well, so they really couldn’t be changed. I guess we had a similar train of thought. Interestingly, though, Ace’s pre and post Groovy art for his Ceremonial Robes still has the heart mark on his face. I guess it probably would not have made much sense to keep it off in the illustrations, but for him to have it on his character model/sprite?

This is really interesting to me since I already made up my own reasons for their marks a while back.
(For Ace it was a weird birthmark, for Deuse it was a regrettable tattoo from his delinquent days, and for Trey and Cater it was makeup (which Cater forced onto Trey.))
