0:31 I'm gonna be honest here, I think *"Bug's Life"* is seriously underrated. I know that it's not Pixar's strongest movies, but it's still pretty damn good. It's just the fact that considering it was the second movie after *"Toy Story"* it's alot to live up too. But no, I don't agree that it'd been better just for Disney+, if streaming existed at the time.
For sure hopper is a amazing villains for example and all the characters are very charismatic i think it was just a case of being overshadowed by more popular movies plus insects are not most peoples favorites

Yes! I was surprised Grace didn't mention the puns. It's part of the world-building but the writers clearly had a lot of fun with using every element pun in the book, especially during the end credits.
Glad to hear the movie is good going to see it Friday. That said, Luca and Turning red were not “best suited for D+” they should’ve been theatrical releases. Comparing Elemental to Coco though..that’s a big movie to stand next to.

Ironically enough I did get to see Luca in theaters during its one-week run at the El Capitan in Hollywood, Turning Red I saw on D+ (that should've been in theaters too) and I didn't bother with Lightyear (it just didn't look interesting to me), so Elemental is the first Pixar film I've seen in theaters since Luca and I surprisingly enjoyed it!
Elemental ain't Coco.... i'd say it's in the same league as Luca. A simpler, smaller story so won't leave QUITE the impact, BUT if they tried to make it bigger it could ruin the overall feel of the film they were going for.
I don't really feel like goign to see it in theater even though I'm a big Pixar fan, but maybe I will go to check it out just to try to vote with my wallet since I'd much rather see Pixar do stuff like Elemental over them doing stuff like Toy Story 5.
Just want to mention lots of the Middle East is in Asia - South West Asia. Including Iran. Glad to hear there's MENA representation ( aka SWANA Southwest Asia and North Africa)
If the only problem with Spiderverse is that it got an Oscar already, then they can give it to literally anybody else than Disney. The Oscar's have treated Pixar and Disney like the only animated studios capable of creating art with animation.
This film was really something special. Wade and Ember’s relationship was so sweet. People have been saying the world is too similar to the real world but I disagree, I think there were enough little details to make it unique (the water people pouring out of that boat and then taking form was cute!). And spending so much time focusing on worldbuilding that you put off developing the actual story can be an easy trap to fall into for a writer! I’m not saying you can’t have both - a good story and a fantasy world - because, well, in my opinion, they did here! *SPOILERS AFTER THIS* There was a lot more action than I expected; I knew about the dam storyline but I assumed they were just going to resolve that fairly early on and then it would just be slice-of-life type scenes of Wade and Ember bonding, which it kind of was, but of course the fact that not even Ember’s glass (the scenes where she showed off those abilities were beautiful) being able to fix the dam permanently led to that climax! Now that I’ve seen the film, I know what you were talking about when you mentioned that date and the ending! You could feel the tension when Ember and Wade held hands for the first time and the dance they had together was just so beautiful. Ember’s grief after Wade evaporated was heartbreaking, the voice acting was indeed very good, and yeah, no one really thought that Wade would be gone forever, but as they say, it’s about the journey, not the destination - I have yet to experience something as special as what Ember and Wade had but her remembering everything he said during the Crying Game, word for word, even at that moment, made me think, “wow, that must be True LoveTM!” It was just satisfying seeing a scene that was seemingly just fun and nothing more be harked back to that way (that does remind me of Onward, that film had Chekov’s guns in spades!). And the little moment with Ember and her father at the very, very end was obviously very touching (I said “very” twice to emphasise that it was literally the last moment before the credits and I think it was such a nice way to end the film (other than the nice little 2D scenes during the credits!)). I don’t know if this *needs* a sequel, but if there is, whether it be in the form of another film, a series, a short, a series of shorts....there needs to be an earth character with my name. Pls. Also, Carl’s Date was a very cute and funny short. Random but they played three trailers before the film: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem (I’d never seen it before, the animation looked very good), Wish (I’ve already watched it, like, a million times because I like the song so much but the animation looks even more beautiful on the big screen! I did kind of agree with other people that it looked like a regular CGI Disney film with a filter slapped onto it but I don’t think that at all anymore) and between those two... Trolls World Tour? As in Trolls 2, which came out over three years ago... I guess they meant to put a trailer for Trolls 3. :-P I watched your review quite a few times since I was quite excited to see the film (it came out on the twenty-second where I live but I preferred to wait until this weekend so the burden of school would be fully lifted from my shoulders!) and I’m happy to share my thoughts on it now. 😊🔥

Your review suggested you kinda liked it! haha i might be biased because i think it's the first Hollywood film to be so openly and proudly set in Canada, but I was super impressed how despite the fact it was about boy bands and Tamagotchi's and Chinese generational trauma, non of which I grew up with, I could still get into it so much. It was also the first Pixar film done BY a millennial about her own life, as opposed to purely trying to cater to them. And the more pushed designs and visuals are very unique for Pixar.
I connected with this movie in a way I did not expect. I'm a son of immigrants and this movie was able to capture the feeling of finding yourself and living your own life, not adhering to the expectations of who you should be. I was expecting this movie to be shallow and I was pleasantly surprised to find a touching story that was layered and well thought out .
Stopped the review early on and booked a ticket. Thanks for the enthusiasm Grace! I might not always see you eye to eye but the energy you’re giving off convinced me

Went into the movie not having really heard or read anything about it. Save for one trailer I saw months ago. I was moved by the story and welled up several times. The immigrant experience really resonated with me. The story beats are familiar with the romantic side of things, but when a story is well told who cares? Highly recommended.
Finally watched it tonight . This is Pixar . It was so good and touching . I shed a tear but not at the end . I’d definitely give it an A but I would still have Spiderverse ahead of it because of how ambitious and upping the ante in that film .
From your review I’m now more excited to see this in theaters. The visuals looks amazing but the marketing made the story look like a rip off of Zootopia. Glad Elemental actually has a good story and can stand on its own. Pixar has a good record for romantic partners in their movies (The Incredibles, Up, Walle, and Toy Story 4) so I’m excited to see their vision of a RomCom.
I knew Leah was the best choice for this character, she is 🔥 and they did such a great job taking aspects of her for this character just like CBS did for her character in Nancy Drew ❤
Why is it that all the Hollywood IPs and studios are beginning to fall off. Star Wars and DC have been in a mess for a while but in the last few years the Wizarding World franchise, Pixar, the MCU and Fast and Furious have either disappointed creatively or financially. Even the Little Mermaid that everyone said would make over a billion tanked overseas and may not even make it to half of that.

It really has a fantastic animation. The way light refracts and reflects through water.

Kind of bummed about the romance stuff. My 7 year olds will see a cartoon advertised on Disney+ and want to watch it.
