      it would depend on the gun.
      Most likely than not, the sniper is probably the only one who has this disadvantage since he most likely carries a high-tech gun that fires "smart" bullets which needs the input of the shooter which in this case would either be some form of private wifi between the gun and the user which the woman can "hack" into.
      It also most likely is somewhat like an interface between the gun and the shooter where shot placement would be quicker and wouldn't need a spotter since the "computer" in either the gun or the shooter or maybe even both would act like calculators to determine where the shots might be.

    so, minor thought on this. AI would run a billion cycles a week or more in simulation with innumerable variables running combat algorithms before even being considered for deployment, no one just dumps military robots out in the open to run simulations in hopes it learns. That's way to inefficient and would take way longer and pose greater threats to human life. They already did this with, deep blue and chess, OpenAI 5 and DOTA, this isn't a new idea. If it was a genuine effort on behalf of the military to make efficient war drones then that's the likeliest route taken, but then there would be no movie. If they had run the simulations on the AI the soldiers would never had a chance to get boots on the ground they would have been shot on descent.

    • @TrangleC
      @TrangleC 3 ปีที่แล้ว +109

      Yeah. We are at this weird point in history where science fiction kind of becomes pointless and ridiculous, because pretty much anything that could happen in a SF movie is totally rendered mute and pointless by extrapolating where technology will likely go soon.
      Technology seems to quickly outrun the horizon of human imagination. Writers and story tellers have no idea how to portray plausible seeming versions of the future anymore and even if they did, the realistic SF they might produce, would be totally unappealing to the movie going and TV series watching audience.
      The "Bobiverse" books by Dennis Taylor are good, realistic SF, but normies wouldn't want to watch a movie about a bunch of Von Neumann probes with A.I. pilots buzzing around the galaxy and building copies of themselves.
      What I want to say is that all the usual "human conflict" stuff we apparently want and need in our stories doesn't really have room in realistic science fiction anymore, because it has become very clear by now that however the future will look like, that stuff won't play a big role anymore.
      It is a bit like when back in the 90s, in shows like "The X Files" they were constantly writing around cell phones. Everyone in the real world already had a cell phone and was using it constantly, but the characters in movies and TV shows didn't have them, or their phones constantly found reasons to not work, because the script writers couldn't handle the characters always being able to reach each other. The stories relied on people in it not knowing stuff, so cell phones became a problem.
      It is the same with robots, automation and A.I. now.
      Writers can only use those as threats and then allow the human characters to defeat those threads in unrealistic ways. They can't use them the way they most likely will be used in the future, as problem solving machines, because when machines solve all the problems and humans have nothing to do, that doesn't make good stories and people don't want stories about machines interacting with other machines, with no human characters in it.

    • @RegularDude
      @RegularDude 3 ปีที่แล้ว +23

      Debatable. This is allegedly during a period where there are no wars, and maybe they understand that teaching an AI to learn about combat tactics does not exactly translate into an actual scenario: highly elite team of combat veterans try to 'kill' your base, how do you react? It's easy to say, "I'd blow them up or put a million landmines everywhere." It is difficult to actually practice team-to-team combat tactics.
      You also have to consider this is a sci-fi world where AI have to 'learn' things, and our modern AI do not come remotely close to the nigh-sentience of these types of AI. There's no way to gauge, for certain, that giving that AI unlimited access would not immediately backfire, hence why in the movie this AI has a localized network and is denied outside access, specifically for this reason.

    This is what they mean when they say if AI is given a task without any sort of limit or regulation it will complete that task to the best of its ability. It's not that the AI is purposely being evil, they have been programmed to become stronger and more efficient by any means necessary and that is what they are doing; completing their task to the best of their ability. I'm assuming that also includes not being able to be shut off because they would consider that a vulnerability in their system.

    This is so incredibly reminiscent of Ghost in the shell and the technologies it showcased. Mills in particular is a weaker stand in for Major Motoko Kusanagi of section 9 with her her ability of hacking , controlling and utilising as well as manipulating the technology around her. The Major (Motoko Kusanagi) as she is fondly called seems much stronger maybe because she is fully cyberized ( and so can dish out as much damage as well as able to withstand more punishment due to her hardened cyborg frame as well as years of familiarization of her cyborg body functions over many years through combat and otherwise )and similar with Mills received her conversion at a young age because of paralysis due to a plane crash and was sponsored instead of a corporation (harbinger)but by a secretive army unit, the 501st . The end scene also borrows elements from the end of the 1995 anime film adaptation where she merged with project 2501 the puppetmaster to become a new entity as compared to Mills being taken over by the SAR robot protocol. However unlike the incredible let down from the onscreen Ghost in the shell movie that starred Scarlett Johansen , this seemed more impactful and superior in its execution.

      I do like the parts where they show that a human like body is still weak compared to tue larger machines they can build, when she wrecks her body and rips her arms off trying to pull a hatch open that was pretty cool to watch.

The implications that the exposition invites are then explicitly dramatised in the final act with the dramatic use of the dummies next to the dead soldiers. Well, modern war will be "modern" for the first week. After that initial week it is either a total war or a peace conference.
      After the initial strike and the first big push from any major power GPS, Internet, Satilite comms, Major factories, Supercomputers, Communication hubs ... anything "modern" will be wiped out. And then we are back to radio operators giving orders to increasingly large number of units. It will be everyone for themselves and the guy that sits above them. This is why I am not a fan of drones - they are great if you attack a village buried in sand and blood, it is something else entirely when there is someone capable of basically pushing a button that starts a signal jammer that just makes your controller useless. Anything that is remotely controlled will crash and burn or it will be very hard to operate. Anything that has a computer will be generally unreliable. It is back to whoever acts faster wins. Blitzkrieg of the 21 century - destroy the enemy before the enemy destroys you.

    • @t3m3lkov85
      @t3m3lkov85 3 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      This is basically my oppinion on the global military mindset :
      USA - Have an overwhelming power anywhere on the globe so we can destroy any enemy with the initial push. /OR/ Have strike capability strong enough to disable the opponent for long enough to have reinforcements arrive and with their help do an overwhelming push and destroy the enemy.
      It is evident where this Overwhelming Power Push tactics lack - when the enemy is not really fighting 1 on 1 (you are not fighting with regular army) you basically lose your edge. Afganistan, Vietnam, Korea are some examples. It does not matter how strong your army is when you neither know where nor who is your opponent.
      (Superiority) Very well trained veteran army with the best equipment in the world. It can easily hold its own, but in its tactics there is no place for defence. It has one purpose - to destroy the enemy. This is why this army either wins in the first week or loses on the first hour.
      China - Have a vast army that cannot be destroyed in a single sweep. The objective of the PLA is to survive the initial push and counterattack and prolong the war long enough for the population difference to take its effect.
      The PLA army is a prime example of an army that cannot die, but can become brain-dead. It is like an immortal human body with a regular human brain. Blow off the brains and the Giant is as good as an Ant. But if it can win the initial push and survive the first toe-to-toe exchange its a certain victory for it in a total war.
      (Multitask-Defensive) Large and capable army - both in defence and offence, but it is very hard to have the edge with such a multi-leveled training and equipment gaps.
      Russia - Have an army with a state. No matter what, no matter where, no matter the cost - save the Motherland - it does not matter if it is in attack or defence. No matter what - the army shall fight. You have a stick - sharpen it with your teeth and go poke the enemy in the eye with it.
      You either beat the Russian army so bad in the initial push that you force them to the table or be prepared to make it lose enough land for it to starve to death. You know only one thing - you cannot win a total war with that army even if you defeat them.
      (Defensive) This army has a great defence ability, but power projection is not an easy task with it. It underperforms significantly in low intensity conflict zones.
      EU - Have an army ... period. Make sure it is adequate.
      It might not be a superpower and continent conquerer, but it is strong and sophisticated enough that you wouldn't want to start a war with them. The cost outweighs the benefit. You should either be an ally to that army or just be neutral - they seek no further than their interests. It is not unified, but is sophisticated and large enough that you wouldn't want to mess with it.
      (Defensive-Multitask) Defends its lands and makes sure to have some highly trained units for limited interests based power projection.
      India - Have a large army to protect our interests.
      Not advanced, yet not primitive. Its army is important for its economy. You cannot build an economy without the means to guard that economy. Formidable enemy that you wouldn't want to mess with without a good plan and an even better reason. It is not an army with a sole purpose of existing as an army. It is more like an apparatus that exist not because it should, but because it needs to. Maybe the only major power player that I can see without an army, period. All the other power players, even if they were alone in the world, still would have had Armed Forces.
      (Defensive-Superiority) This army won't go down without a fierce fight, but once its main forces are defeated it is a parade walk. Not that you will be left anything to parade for.
      Honorable mention :
      Brazil - We are here, you are there. Leave us be. We are not looking for a fight, we are good as we are.
      Not so advanced, but enough to knock the wind out of any opponent. The moment you manage to touch the soil both sides will be on the table. You cannot win a land battle with such a terrain. A military synonym for a Jungle is a Meat Grinder.
      (Defensive-Miltitask) Have some units capable of showing strenght incase anyone acts aggressive towards it. Capable navy for interest detterence.

    You don't need robots to have self improving AI to be more effective than human soldiers, why does every sci-fi movie give robots that ability?
    The actual fact is that hard coded robots would have weapons accuracy many times more effective than the best human sniper. A real sci-fi robot death machine could be the size of a drone and use 1 bullet for each target straight to the head. It could do it so fast that it could take out the whole squad before the electrical signals in the human brain have time to process what is happening.

    • @philipfahy9658

      It would still have a human operator though, that's the point. Aim assist or not, you still have to get to the mission location. You have to be able to operate around changing parameters. Robots, and by extension, modern AI actually suck at this. Like AI isn't even in the realm of human perception. Sure, it can pick out points on a display instantly, but what if that point is slightly ambiguous? Then you add in that your opponent is tactical too. We already have drones that can take someone out without notice. And they are terrifyingly effective at it. But you couldn't win a war with just drones.

    This is why you never make combat drones.... if they get out of range from the command it has no new orders and it can become self aware and make it self new orders.
    That why her programing in them was overwriting cause they have a hidden file that allows them to learn, adapt and fell so it could be that the combat drones on island dislike all soilders as you can see that there are all killed in rage not by programing.

      Pretty sure there'd have to be fail-safes in place for any rogue combat drones irl if they thought it out well enough, can't just have a rogue combat robot waltz into town and shoot everybody to death on the spot

      It might be a self-destruct feature to deter capture or to counter other robotic threats they're being built to face. If it was a self-destruct feature, they probably disabled it as they'd be more worried about damaging friendlies than capture.
