One of my all time favorites, too. You omitted one scene that was a fav... after lifting the little boy in his arms, one of the solders looks at Todd curiously, and Todd's gives a slight nod - it says volumes. One of the reasons Kurt Russell is such an outstanding actor. He carries this film and says something like only 10 words in the whole thing. Unbelievable awesome movie.
I had watched this movie almost a decade back. This recap showed that I remebered it so well. This is one heck of a movie that has deep impact on me. It's not called out in this recap, but the dialogue YOUR MEN ARE OBSOLETE deeply resounds in my mind..
I love that one of his awards in his service record was the o'neil award. Totally not a nod to him having played o'neil in the stargate movie 4 years earlier.
Is a great film, says a lot without saying it. Watched it when it came out, Todd wasnt as popular as Snake but legend Kurt Russel played the character to perfection. Thanks for sharing a great reminder.
Soldier is an awesome military scifi movie. Starship Troopers is a cool scifi movie about futility of war. _Beware of an old man in a profession where men usually die young._ -Kevin Lacz, The Last Punisher
What I don’t get is why would you replace one elite unit in their prime with a superior elite unit in their prime instead of using both? That is wasted money and experience.
Then answer this: why would you replace a combat-proven T-60 with combat-unproven T-80, whose field tests proved it to be superior to previous gen? Check how much time has passed since this old guys training - its clear that their technology is outdated, and since they were indoctrinated into a specific combat training tech, they were expensive to retrain into a new gen, even after that hardly even matching them, since most of this new gen soldier advantages are from his breeding progress. Its like with old gen material - if you can stuff it with new gen components to enhance it, you will do it, unless production of complete new gen material is way more cost-effective. And this fresh baked soldier defeated 3 hardy veterans. Ofc they decided to scrap the olds.
@@keanu883 Ignoring the morality of all this because the fictional government doesn't give a shit, consider this. Commando units such as Seal Team 6 and Delta Squad are considered superior to their predecessors Navy Seals and Special Forces. However, the Seals and Green Berets still are in active service because they still function well. That being said, the old soldiers still have skills that have won them several battles. Replacing them instead of using both is incredibly wasteful. Also making them fight each other to the death is incredibly wasteful because 3 elite soldiers were killed and one soldier was left with a nonfunctional eye. Furthermore, later in the movie, these superior soldiers got ambushed because they hadn't learned how to handle guerrilla tactics. I am saying that the idiot general got into a pissing contest that cost him his elite commandos.
This is anvery deep a beautiful movie that most will mistake as a surface level 90's B Action Movie. The whole journey of Todd 3465 is a comparison of examples of what so many veterans go through after what for many of them seems like a lifetime of war. Discarded without a place to call a home, desperately struggling to integrate back into society. This is real ass shit man.
This movie came out 98 when I still in elementary. Couldn’t watch it till I was in middle school. I love this movie😅😅. Jason Scott Lee was a badass in this film. Love him also
Soldier is an incredible film where the protagonist barely speaks at all. I find it refreshing to see a solid story, great action and a complete lack of morons spouting sinister agendas for the purpose of brainwashing the audience.
No, spartans copied the greeks with the whole child warriors thing and basically the teacher was also their groomer and would occasionally sleep with them
❤ Absolutely top of my favorites in sci-fi action As Sisu is now one of my favorite war movies. Bot because of the strength of the character's and how them having a nearly complete lack of dialog does nothing to stop them from being able to convey all of the emotions and words that are needed in other movies. I'm sure there were other actor's that may have pulled this role off. However Kurt Russell was the very best choice at the time and he totally owns it.... Tango and Cash is also a great one with him and of course Escape from N.Y. a true classic Russell movie
Almost reminds me of Universal Soldier but these guys were the Prototypes. 1st Gen Soldiers where US Soldiers were around 4th to 5th gen combatants. These Prototypes were more prone to control because they were raised from birth making them a better Soldier. US Soldiers were Soldiers killed in battle then brought back. So there would be side affects to a soldier engineered from the start than those raised from the womb
The Woman standing next to Kent at One Min Fifty Three Second ' s , The 1 line i remmber her saying , You don't Even have to surlute any more because we are the same Rank , she said to 1 of the older soldiers , . IT is a shame that she had to die ;
The vets were obsolete , too old , too weak compared to the new men. You suggest then vets to undergo the same surgeries? That might just be a waste of money.
When DVD's came out , Soldier was one of my first choices. Still watch it.
Isn't it kind of crazy to think that we lived before DVDs and have now lived long enough to see them die

You did it justice thank you. Kurt Russell is still a badass
Jason Scott Lee deserves credit too
*_"Kurt Russell is still a badass"_* in addition to being a fantastic actor, the character he portrayed bought a tear to my hardened eyes...lol
I love all these old movies. IT has more meaning than the current ones.
I loved this show back when it came out and now. Its a good story. Thank you for putting it out
I love that one of his awards in his service record was the o'neil award. Totally not a nod to him having played o'neil in the stargate movie 4 years earlier.
One L. No fun, that guy.
This is probably next to terminator 2 as my fave movie
Man you don't have to say Tod3465 every time 😂
You can just call him Tod
😂 you know this is auto read text?
@kreyton9481 yes he does. Of is very important
Ai Voice that's flooding TH-cam
One of my favorite movies
Old movies are best they have someone meaning...
Name of the film:Soldier (1998)
The amount of times you said Todd 3465 is insane when you could have said Todd.
@filmlover, you should pin your comment with the film name. It’s pretty far down in the comment section, though I haven’t seen anyone saying, “name?”.
Always one of the best of all time. This and Solo are amazing movies
This was a good movie. A really good movie. And I didn't mind you using his full name
Is a great film, says a lot without saying it. Watched it when it came out, Todd wasnt as popular as Snake but legend Kurt Russel played the character to perfection. Thanks for sharing a great reminder.

They can never remake this classic, but they can try to do a continuation of a sequel with carefully selected new casts.
Nah it'd be ruined by "new" Hollywood
What I don’t get is why would you replace one elite unit in their prime with a superior elite unit in their prime instead of using both? That is wasted money and experience.
Because thats how the plot was written, to get this conflict
It's a story about capitalism and the ongoing need to iterate improvement on every product. This is apple in a nutshell.

In case some one didn't notice main character name Tod3465.
My ears got bloody by hearing Tod 3465 the entire recap. I couldn't forget the name Tod 3465 😮😅
Tod 3465 came even in my dream 🥱🫣
I have it on VHS, I have a VHS player and a olde style tv.
@@pleshlacis Just watched Rambo first blod, a master piece.
They need to make a new movie with the son as the main character now
Don't be a fool. Enjoy it for what it was don't ask for it to be ruined. What do you think "they" would do to it today?

Replying because your comment nailed it. So many vets abandoned by their branch, their government... 😢
Kurt Russel got his son to play him at a young age in this movie like he did in the Monarch series
This movie was the gem!!
Old is gold
Even greedy capitalism would have known to make the vets NCO’s and let them lead the new guys. We learned long ago that experience is priceless.
This movie came out 98 when I still in elementary. Couldn’t watch it till I was in middle school. I love this movie😅😅. Jason Scott Lee was a badass in this film. Love him also
Todd 3465 x1000 times 😮😫🤦🏼😭
My ear drum almost got destroyed by hearing Todd 3465.
Todd was enough 🤦🏼
Right! 😂
Welcome to the era of AI-generated narration. Express your disgust with it by down-voting any video that uses it.
😂😂😂😂😂
Todd 3465
very good simple movie..

Soldier is an incredible film where the protagonist barely speaks at all. I find it refreshing to see a solid story, great action and a complete lack of morons spouting sinister agendas for the purpose of brainwashing the audience.
So basically they were Spartans
No, spartans copied the greeks with the whole child warriors thing and basically the teacher was also their groomer and would occasionally sleep with them
Soldier is up there on my list of favorite movies.
this movie is a prime example that no matter how new your tech and stuff is you cant beat skill and experiense, also the main caricter is fucking sexy
Who? Kurt Russell?
that was a good movie. I watched entire thing.
This is the best film it got a villain who looks French and it got emotional damage from the way they treated him the best BEST
❤ Absolutely top of my favorites in sci-fi action
As Sisu is now one of my favorite war movies.

The best movie of my childhood ❤ i got weeping
Would have been cool if they did a second one and possibly a third.

The Veterans are literal Spartan IIs and the new replacements are Spartan IVs lmao 😂

I love the movie and the best voice stories explained 👍👍👍🌹❤️✌️
Would there be a remake but with Wyatt Russell?
Id love that. But, its best to let some classics be. It's perfect as it is.
His in this movie too he plays a young Todd
OMG I LOVE THIS FREAKING MOVIE AS A CHILD
Name of the movie pls
All star cast in a hard hitting film . Great watch
2:07 Damn Jason Scott Lee was jacked as fuk
This movie has its flaws, like a failed worldbuilding or the lack of more obscure tone, but it's a great movie and Kurt Russell is phenomenal.
5K+ 👍's up Film Lover thank you for sharing 🤗
I have it on Blu-ray it's my favorite to go watch at any time when I have time to do it
The amount of times Todd 3465 was mentioned is insane when could have said Todd.

@28:48 😂 "Without the narrative protection of being the main character..."

What's the name of the movie please
I want to understand why it kept saying those numbers like that
The Woman standing next to Kent at One Min Fifty Three Second ' s , The 1 line i remmber her saying , You don't Even have to surlute any more because we are the same Rank , she said to 1 of the older soldiers , . IT is a shame that she had to die ;
nice man
This is a great Kurt Russell movie, check it out
Why not just apply the genetic modifications on the vets if not possible why not let the vets train the new soldiers.
The vets were obsolete , too old , too weak compared to the new men. You suggest then vets to undergo the same surgeries? That might just be a waste of money.
