  • Learning how to fish Lake Toho in December can be tricky. Actually, learning how to fish Lake Toho, in General, can be extremely tricky. Throw in some post cold front conditions, and who knows what will happen, right? Actually, December is one of my favorite months to fish West Lake Tohopekaliga and the rest of the Kissimmee Chain. Our Largemouth Bass usually become very active with the cooling water temperatures, and can be pretty easy to catch. Sure, you can always catch them flippin' and punchin'... But, who wants to do that when their chasing schools of shad all over a submerged hydrilla flat? I don't! In this video, we caught them on almost everything we threw... Spinnerbaits, lipless crank baits, chatterbaits, and jerkbaits. Though we didn't catch a lot, Bob (my customer) and I, had a great time catching nearly 30 quality Largemouth Bass. Bob contacted me, and said he was new to the area and wanted to learn to fish Toho. He picked a great day for it. Hope you enjoy the video!

    Hi Chuck, good instructional video as usual, question for you, Is the KVD Red Eye Shad lipless crankbait a comparable in quality to the one you used in the video? What kind of rod do you recommend for it? I learned that for your jerkbait you have a 6’2” rod med/heavy for example. I think you’re awesome! 👍🏻👍🏻

      Big Moe Medina Yes, I use the Red Eye Shad about as much as I use the other. You’ll see it in a lot of my previous videos. Usually, with a lipless crank bait, I like to use a 7’1” - 7’3” MH rod with a fast tip.

      Chuck Pippin error corrected, i had the red shad on a medium light instead but noticed it would rattle like a maracas on every cast. Changed it to a Med/heavy and the cast goes father out and no shaking at all. Thanks so much Chuck and Merry Christmas!! GodBless! Tight Lines!!🎣

    It’s funny you mentioned Excalibur lures I won a tournament on lake St. Clair 2 years ago using only one of that companies purple back chartreuse side 4 inch jerk bait. I had 20.5 pounds that day I know it’s a light weight but Canada wasn’t open yet so we were limited to only the state side and there was 12 boats with 24 people fishing. I still have that lure and I’m a little apprehensive on using it cause online it’s a 30 dollars lure lol..

      Chuck Pippin I just moved down here from Indiana and I tell ya it’s a whole new world of bass fishing I’ve had to rethink just about everything that I’m use to throwing up there to different ways to catch fish down here. I watched your vid on flukes and I typically only use the white zoom, I’ve never caught one yet on the watermelon red one yet..

    I still have dad's Devil's Horse, and my friends are always asking if they can use it. If I'm never going to use it, they aren't either. I'm afraid of losing it. Plus, my friends make up their own knots each time they tie something on. I always use the palomar knot no matter what.

    Where I live 40* IS cold too man! I ain't that mad at the fish to go out in those temps. We went chase the specs and reds last wknd in low 50* weather but I knew it was warming to the upper 60's for midday. Dude, you're like SM...only wear shoes when it's really cold. Flip flops the rest of the time. I'm the same way...lol.

    Interesting....you retrieve your jerkbait in the "Twitching Up" position and not down twitching. Why.....I would love to try that. I deliberately using a 2500 or 3000 series spinning reel with a 6 to 6.6 medium wght. rod so I can comfortably twitch/jerk down. Would of course prefer to use a baitcaster, but it feels clumsy (to me) down twitching a baitcaster.

    We have been to Toho a few times but haven't done real great at the south end. We are putting in at Whaley ramp and fishing the south end. Any advice on where to fish with putting in at that ramp? What color name is the One Knocker you are using? Also what size braid line do you use on your reels?

    • @ChuckPippinBassFishing
      @ChuckPippinBassFishing  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Scottsdale 816 there’s a lot of good off shore hydrilla down at the south end, but the wind from the last cold front may have muddied it up. I’ve been up at the north end the ost several days.

    Think a glide bait would have been a good option?

    • @ChuckPippinBassFishing
      @ChuckPippinBassFishing  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      James Crawford It may have worked that day. They seemed to be eating everything. There were a lot of fish that didn’t make it to the video. I don’t have much experience with glide baits, but maybe I’ll play around with some in the future.

    Nice video! Quick question: what technique is the best for a lipless crank and jerkbait?

    • @ChuckPippinBassFishing
      @ChuckPippinBassFishing  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Soccer Training & Talk Thanks! The best technique to use can vary from day to day. I usually start with a “twitch, twitch, pause” technique for jerk baits, and a “stop & go” or “yo yo” technique for lipless cranks.
