My son has owned 2 ttr’s, a 2005 125 and currently a 2012 230. I’ve owned a 2003 ttr 250 for the past 12 years, all 3 have been stone reliable. I highly recommend ttr’s. They are excellent trail bikes and with basic maintenance will serve you well for years too come. By the way I’m 55 years old and my son is 24, wouldn’t trade the years of bonding with my son while riding for any amount of money. We have been riding for 12 years now and I wish we still had the time to ride like we used too, unfortunately we both work full time and I work 12 hour swing shifts so not much time to ride anymore.
2o years ago I owned and rebuilt a CANAM 125 and that was a fast bike when I was done with it ubut I found out then I am a trail rider not a racer this bike at my age 56 would be great for me

I love my ttr230, with some simple power mods it's incredibly responsive and fast. Very reliable and starts up instantly. Been riding it for years and never had a problem. However the suspension sucks! Definitely one of the best trail bikes made
I have a 2005 ttr230 I have my carb jetted there over twice the size of the factory jets and after market exhaust and after that now the top speed is around 68mph
TTR230 easily one of the BEST bikes ever made. Simple mechanically, low compression, air cooled and extremely low maintenance. Seat height is perfect for many at 34 inches. Forest Service here uses them for trail maintenance, not because they suck, but because of the exact opposite. This one is destined to not run right as it's spark arrestor is completely gone, has not been rejetted and no airbox mods most likely. Air/fuel mix is all messed up, running lean, plug is probably white. . GREAT BIKES when setup properly. They are what they are, trail bikes. Loving all the Yamaha TTR content as of late, all great bikes.
Every ttr makes an amazing trail machine. I have a ‘15 ttr125 have never gave me any trouble. With these bikes as long as you do basic maintenance oil/ air filter etc you would be surprised how reliable it is. I am outgrowing my ttr125 considering I am coming up on age 15 so I have thought and decided that my next bike will be a ttr230. I want a reliable bike with decent power but has potential to be great out on the trails. I believe the ttr230 will fill in the boxes. Ride safe everyone
I upsized my jets on my ttr 230 years ago and it helped a lot. Just check around on some forums and you will find out a lot of people upsized the jets and had very good results. Yamaha put small jets in them for some odd reason
My dad bought this bike for my 12 birthday and i still love it ,and my dad told me that I must start the bike and leave the choke on for a minute and then ride it . So this is the best bike I ever had AND i handelded it with care
The 230 has been in production for nearly 20 years, Yamaha must be doing something right! I have a 2009 and love it, had a 2009 CRF230 for awhile as well and for beating around on the trail worry free, you can't beat them. And they run FOREVER on a tank of gas! I'm well pooped out before the need to top up comes along. My buddies that ride 2 strokes are always having to pack gas along with them on long rides, but not me! I prefer the Yamaha over the Honda 230 simply because it has a serviceable oil filter, you have to split the cases in the Honda to change its oil filter. Guys claim you can run it for life without servicing it, but I'm old school and want it changed every oil change.
The TTR 230 was and is my first bike. For the price, if I had to redo my decision, I probably would’ve just gone with a straight 250, but the TTR is serving me well. It’s heavy as all hell and the fuel adjustment screw is in a wildly annoying area, but those are really my only gripes. I don’t need it to be fast, I’m riding wood trails, not race tracks. And for as heavy as it is, if I can learn to muscle this around, every other bike to come will be that much easier. I think the real problem is too many people don’t take good care of their bikes, or really anything they own. People think because tools are meant to be beaten that they aren’t also meant to be taken care of. Some people don’t even fuckin wash their bike after a ride. Your bike will be shit if you treat it like shit
Love my 230, but I did go up one size on the pilot and main. All stock besides that, but it corrected the cold start issue that would typically drain the battery from cranking. Enjoy your content, keep up the great work.
Nonsense....backpressure robs performance unless talking about 3 piece exhausts (header/mid pipe/ silencer ) and header only exhaust so short scavenging is lost then in that case open flow hurts performance because exhaust isn't long enough to cool and shrink gases as it travels through piping...and no spark arrester made affects performance change,it just makes loudness annoying and allows backfires to include flames exiting exhaust
I'm 6'4" & weigh 280lbs~ Can start mine in 2nd (1st gear is useless lol) and it will stand up with hardly any throttle. 2021 for 3k. Can't go wrong with these little beasts.
You was meant to say *respectively* the ttrs is definitely a good and reliable bike. Looks like you're having a ton of fun on your new trials, great video 👍
I had the Honda crf230f and the great thing about these and the reason they're so heavy is because they're titled as an Enduro you could register and ride it on the streets hence the electric start also...
You should use a Garmin device or even just your phone to make a GPS plot of your trail network. It could be fun for you to look at it afterwards to see the elevation up/down as well as the routes through the woods.
absolutely. ive had several ttr 125s that need a new crank. seems to be a common thing in them. i once bought two in a package deal and guess what they both needed. CRANKS
The 230 we had was bulletproof and would kick over first time everytime, My TTR125 at the time despite being brand new never ran right no matter what me or the dealer did to fix it, Genuinely terrible dirtbikes.
nice video. Had a TTR 230 and a TTR 250. 230 was too small and squirrelly. Both good bikes for putting around and having fun, but they are heavy. Preferred the 250 its a taller longer bike more stable and a little more grunt from the extra cc's.
Great video Joe I've got one of these bad boy how I sorted that spluttering was go up one size on the main & one size on the pilot what plagues the bike is inconstant fuel getting through but that really helps keep everything else stock and that will help I Don't use mine that much but it is nice to have to use every know and then it looks like your having a load of fun absolutely love the land there is so much you can do with that and the new house looks great your going to have your hands full with jobs which I know you will enjoy have a lovely weekend great content as always mate your videos I so enjoy watching they really give me some enjoyment watching your projects 😁
Just a comment on the trail riding , you should bring a hand shears or a two landed loppers and every time you go for a trail ride cut a few of the worst branches etc that are in your way and eventually you will have a mostly clear trail, it’s what I do usually
TTR is a great starter bike. You can beat'em, toss'em and drop'em, it will keep on running. Low on acceleration but enough grunt to make it throught the woods. She is a heavy beast though.
Lol figured this today when I rode head on into another rider both of us coming flying of our bikes, were fine, but I honestly wasn't expecting to be able to ride home and I did . I kissed the fender.

I had one years ago. It was fun to ride, not enough bike (like my KTM 380 two stroke) to get in trouble with. It was dependable, but I found it necessary to drain the carb after every ride.
If you watch any vid where people compare the crf 230 vs ttr 230 TTR always wins I’ve got a 2020 Wr450 and still ride my ttr more mainly cause it a wheelie machine but still I can’t hate on anything but the side to side weight feeling
Yamaha ttr230 I's a fantastic bike......and your still running the mower on choke at times you may have a carb issue or the throttle linkage needs to be adjusted
Yeah Joe, that bike and also the 125 you got running just seemed like the most gutless, boring 4 stroke junkers that Yamaha should be deeply ashamed of.
The thing about the TTR's is that they are cheap to buy, decently reliable and cheap to fix. Which makes them great rental bikes. Also why they haven't really changed in 20 years.
@@keithseiwert2256 why are you so sensitive bruh? My intent was to insult any 4 stroke. I never raced it nor have i ever had the misfortune of owning one. I have a KX 250 and it's a 2 stroke.

Why not make you a small electric wheel to put against the back tire to star the bikes kinda like a friction drive bike starter save you alot of kicking and bump starting
Yeah I had a ttr 125 01 and I was riding down the rode and and the crank locked up and it had plenty of oil in it so I would say yamaha is not vary good bikes love your content keep it up thank you for keeping me Entertaind❤😊

Looks like the soybeans need a rain bad. Or fertilizer of the farmer renting the land. I like the tt230. Not too powerful like a yz. But should run very economically.
Every bike I get as a project has clapped suspension , and bearings, . Hammers heat rust and cussing . Something bent . Missing . Hacked . The world of used power sports you see some incredible things. Way worse than car hacks
Ok Joe this second time I'll be messaging you. There's is a spammer/con commenting to ur subscribers. I sent you screen shot of other person through Instagram so please block them bud. Thanks and loved the video
Runs better now. In my humble opinion I think it would look much better without the Carls Jr stars all over it. You should remove them they are ugly. Yellow stars look dorky. Thumbs up for remove all yellow stars. I wonder why it back fires a lot ?? That is a mystery? Oh the choke was on. The yellow star stickers make it look cheap. Looks so much better with out them.
My 2007 ttr230 also takes a while to warm up, they must come a lil lean from the factory..Other than that the bike has been great all these years..ttr sure feels light to me after getting off my KLR 650😅, that thing feels like a tank..
I bought a big basket rack extension thing for the back of my trx 4 bye. I can put a chainsaw, gas, big clippers for the branches ect back there. Trail cutting never ends! Watch out for 🐰.
Really enjoy our ttr230, removing the snorkel, rejetting makes them run better. What mower is that, I've been looking at one similar, i think it was s swisher
people, houses, cars and motorcycles don’t wear out as much as they are neglected or tampered with to death.. these motorcycles, have a long, long history of service and pretty rough service at that. Because the market for these motorcycles is young kids, they are not mechanics. A lot of times they’re more interested in splashing through deep puddles than doing the maintenance on the all the parts that suffer from going through mud, or servicing the air cleaner… The best used bikes to buy or Xmotocross bikes, one year old from the good riders. Those guys ride them for about an hour or two at the race track every weekend, then they take them home and take them all apart, changing oil, servicing the air cleaner, just everything gets looked at and serviced on a motocross bike. Then halfway through the season, very serious guys will sell their bike and get another brand new one that year. There were people that always bought used motocross bikes from. The top riders as soon as they would sell their bikes, because they knew those bikes were raced, But serviced after every race. Not taken home after a pressure, washer, forces all the mud down the cables into all the little nooks and crannies, and then put away wet.
Started following your videos kinda wish you would playlist some of your more than part one videos . I am a fan of Yamaha more for there reliability. This bike is definitely a leisure trail bike not meant to be aggressive meant to cruise the trails this would be a good old folk trail bike looks like it can handle the small bumps well .
I find that the front sprocket guard is only good for collecting dirt and debris. I always remove mine. I install a case saved to keep rock or something from getting between the chain and engine case.
If it tool that long to warm up then the carb. is still running way too lean. A severe lean condition like that can make a bike feel very sluggish and overheat the engine .
Hey! Love the videos. With your new garage setup you should definitely consider getting some foam pads to dampen the echo/ reverb of travelling sound when you speak inside of it. Your larger garage will be perfect, I think, afterwards!
Great video joe I ride a Sinnis Apache 250 if Uve ever heard of em there similar power too the ttr 230 plus I ride a 2001 sv 650 all your videos make me smile and I learn stuff I’m sure once your finished your work on your land it will look epic great work joe

I find the 230's to not be a bad bike but if you looking for power, it aint it.
What about Honda and Kawasaki's gutless 125s 🤦...it's a trail bike bruv. What did you bring it to the races for 😆🤣
Kawasaki makes some mega gutless KLR bikes . I rode an older KLR250 once and it was just as gutless as my Honda xr100
@@keithseiwert2256 why are you so sensitive bruh? My intent was to insult any 4 stroke. I never raced it nor have i ever had the misfortune of owning one. I have a KX 250 and it's a 2 stroke.
Sensitive is when you respond to someone directly and try and justify something where justification isn't necessary....are you ok. Did I hurt your feelings? You need a hug? I said what about kx and cr. And you now come back with a whiney why do sensitive? What?! Dude. Sorry you own the cheapest crappiest 250 2 stroke?? Shoulda bought a Yamaha lol 😂🤦...I'll wait for you to insert your response below --->
Get the biggest tallest fourhweeler you have a get a battery powered bush cutter/trimmer or hand held loppers and stand on the wheeler while slowly driving and cut anything that's in the way in the trails. Ide love to see you ripping through the trials
I agree lol
I have a ttr 230 and i love it it drives great and is pretty reliable
Ok Joe this second time I'll be messaging you. There's is a spammer/con commenting to ur subscribers. I sent you screen shot of other person through Instagram so please block them bud. Thanks and loved the video
you should put a baffle on the exhaust then it will run better
Runs better now. In my humble opinion I think it would look much better without the Carls Jr stars all over it. You should remove them they are ugly. Yellow stars look dorky. Thumbs up for remove all yellow stars. I wonder why it back fires a lot ?? That is a mystery? Oh the choke was on. The yellow star stickers make it look cheap. Looks so much better with out them.
i havea ttr 250 , love it , very reliable trail bike and it has decent power
Not for everyone but at 5 nine 165lb this bike is perfect for me. No much hot dogging mostly trail riding.
You probably sold it by now but they have kit for Kickstart conversion on the ttr225 but don't know if it fits the 230
You should definitely think a aftermarket pipe for that bike I think would sound a-lot better than the sock pipe. Love the channel.
A lot of times they’re more interested in splashing through deep puddles than doing the maintenance on the all the parts that suffer from going through mud, or servicing the air cleaner…
The best used bikes to buy or Xmotocross bikes, one year old from the good riders.
The captain of all clueless and the master of the miss shift and neutral drop lmao
yes idk if that was his riding skill or the bike but it also bothered me
Started following your videos kinda wish you would playlist some of your more than part one videos . I am a fan of Yamaha more for there reliability. This bike is definitely a leisure trail bike not meant to be aggressive meant to cruise the trails this would be a good old folk trail bike looks like it can handle the small bumps well .
I started on a ttr 125 then went to a yz 85 all I can say is I loved the ttr 125 the 230 looks pretty good
What model drone do you use?
Joe, Your a better man than me, My OCD kicks in and says to wash everything before working on it. All that dirty and mud is BS. lol Good Job.
I mentioned before try to bring out the 400ex and rip it on the new land
mower still sounds like choke is on or need a carb clean
I was going to say that lol
Great content… WHAT EXACTLY IS THE AREA YOU ARE RIDING… curious to know which state this is and or town
Thanks 🙏
i dont know why people are to lazy to put the front sprocket guard back on i guess they like cracked cases n jb weld
Joe its probably OK,lacks compression so not very powerful?🤔🤔🤔
Hey! Love the videos. With your new garage setup you should definitely consider getting some foam pads to dampen the echo/ reverb of travelling sound when you speak inside of it. Your larger garage will be perfect, I think, afterwards!
Valves are a little noisy. Bet they are a tad out of spec....ask me how I know 🙄 lol
I’ve owned a 225 before and I can confirm they are definitely up there for the worst bikes ever made.
I been following ever since like 20k I think love the vids I keep up on every post
That big rock is free landscaping material for the new place
You should get into the habit of washing the bikes before working on them. Its better for the bike, and it also makes working on them easier.
Does the TTR-125 or 230 4 stroke also have carb issues just like the KLX - 140 ?
Did you go to school to learn all this stuff you work on everything its cool to watch
Great video joe I ride a Sinnis Apache 250 if Uve ever heard of em there similar power too the ttr 230 plus I ride a 2001 sv 650 all your videos make me smile and I learn stuff I’m sure once your finished your work on your land it will look epic great work joe
when preasure wasing but a bag over your aircleaner an a plug in exhaust thts wat i do on my 2smoke not sure about 4stroke but prob same
Get your brother and few of the race quads out and tear the paths up really good & the sky views are awesome, keep up the great work.
Totally wished u would've shown the drilling and tapping of the flywheel. Still subscribed though! U give me confidence to tear into a rescued crf450r things got issues!
can't wait to see the finished project
I like your vids man. I wish I had more time to watch them!
Prolly 1 of the best bikes made I have rebuilt several of them
