Hey everyone! Thanks for stopping by. Curious what you think of this one. Are you guys upset that Beme is gone? Or are you happy to see Casey daily vlogging again? Let me know your thoughts :)
Never heard of it. Seems like it was kind of nonsense. Record your own face while you watch short vids of other people? I would think people are more into viewing, not “participating.” Who wants to upload 5-8 seconds of themselves watching something?
@@Dk4KOfficial Agree. He's married and has kids. Why not spend time all your time with your family if you can afford to? Plus, he will be able to set them up for life.
Absolutely incredible editing, man!! 🙌🏽 I don't know how you've been able to consistently keep up this quality, but thank you for holding us up to this standard and wanting to make the best content you can!
Most of Casey’s ventures remind me of Entertainment 720 from Parks and Rec, like “what do you actually do here?” “I don’t know, but we have a half pipe!” lol
Never knew what the hell this guy did...apart from being super outgoing and unusual looking...I guess it doesn't take much to impress this generation now
I don't think they Lost... Usually if you buy a company and include the Owner with an Administrative Deal , it has time period . Lets say ... Participate in Board of Directors, for 5 years, etc... I don´t believe they would've paid that amount for a small period of time on representatoin.
It seemed pretty clear that once contract terms were fulfilled. Casey and his partner got out of Dodge with the bag of money. I don’t blame them, CNN thought they were being slick by buying the App to have access to Casey, so Casey leveraged his own channel to get a big payday. Pretty smart!
You could get a huge number of subs just by doing some editing tutorials. You have such a great style. I also love that your videos aren’t artificially stretched to 10 minutes. They’re tightly written and wonderfully artistic. Thanks man.
This isn’t the first time I’ve seen a channel with an insane amount of dedication to visuals and not nearly as many views as it deserves. I’m bewildered why your channel isn’t a lot more popular, but well done from me.
Excellent video as always. I really miss Beme News. I only discovered the channel after Neistat left so to me Beme was basically Lou and his excellent coverage of a wide range of topics. I'd love to see him start a new channel some day.
Thanks so much! And yes agreed. Would be awesome to see him in front of the camera again. Last I checked he's writing for CNN now. Doesn't look to be doing much video stuff though.
Another banger video. I appreciate your content so damn much. It's written and animated on such a high level. Always a major Treat so see a new Galaxy Brain video 💛
this is a GREAT explanation of what happened to Beme...for years on and off i'd search the web wondering what happened. this video is the best report blog or vlog i've seen. thank you. and pretty much the only one since you're not gonna get an honest recap from the players, either the Casey or CNN side. they'll always put the best face on it. totally agree that Beme was ...wwweird from the start. i was a huge Casey vlog fan for the 2 years he uploaded every day. Beme surfed the wave of the peak of his popularity. it was an example of someone given the keys to the kingdom but without a good idea. can you imagine if Casey and his team thought of TikTok or even now-dead Vine? he would've been silicon valley LEGEND. but hey, he is a trailblazer and redefined vlogging and being the Best at Anything is impressive. one other thing all of the reports on Beme forget to mention is big corporations have to claim losses in order to get those sweet tax breaks. $25 million to you and me is everything, but to Turner it's hardly noticeable. for a small bit of money (to them) they bought (they thought) Casey's talent and audience. and if it didn't work out (it didn't) they can always put it in the loss column and boost their bottom line that way. for CNN, it was a win-win. for Casey, same. for his audience, it was just a big HuH?!?
I actually wouldn’t be surprised if Beme was just a “tool” from the start. “how can I turn my TH-cam success into a massive payday?” (While his channel was blowing up, I don’t think he was making millions from his TH-cam revenue); Casey always mentioned subtly how big companies didn’t properly value TH-cam. So he comes up with an idea, didn’t really matter what. Creates it, does the initial hype. It gets massive downloads initially from the hype Casey’s channel allotted it. Now Casey had a real world example of the power behind the “audience” he created .... CNN takes the bait. Pays him, he does just enough to fulfill his contract terms, and then bolts @ the One year mark with a wad of cash. Kudos to him for getting paid! I can’t hate on that at all
@@srb2834 Yes and no, I think Casey truly wanted Beme to be the next Twitter/Instagram/SnapChat that would make him a Billionaire, but in the end he probably personally made like $12 million from the sale to CNN, which isn't too shabby and not a bad consolation prize for a company that failed. That's the best way to fail, fail up, and laugh all the way to the bank!
thanks so much dude! And hmm the app itself seemed to be a bit too niche, and plus snapchat was doing a better job at what they were trying to do I think. As for the news channel? I definitely think it could still work and really wish it was still around today.
Casey is an innovator with a creative mind. His type of creativity blossoms off of “quick pace” art form with quick results. Beme ran into a lot of other competitive apps and the issues it had were not quick and easy fixes. This hindrance of creative solutions and development really boxed Casey’s mind so he was frustrated.
I really miss Beme News, there's hardly any other journalistic channel like that on TH-cam (that I'm aware of) Also, your production quality is phenomenal
I personally think the initial beme concept was interesting and had a potential. As they kept putting their eggs in too many baskets and casey going from an artist to a mangerial role it was doomed. Awesome video!
Interesting! I always wondered about that! Casey didn't talk about it much. Kind of burned out on Casey now. He made enough money so he does not have to work to hard these days. But he spent a lot of money on that office space in New York he was remodeling. Nothing ever became of that either.
Thanks for telling the stories behind. I really thought that Casey's app had a great exit. How much do you think Neistat himself benefit from the 25M acquisition? Since he had a business partner and a dev team
Lou's Segments on BEME were some of the best investigative journalism I have seen on TH-cam. It was like a less cringe and more informative "Adam Ruins Everything."
Neistat's heyday came when he was churning out content about new iPhone releases, electric skateboards, ebikes, and expensive plane tickets. His vlog was mostly just a daily celebration of consumerist culture. While the personal wealth he amassed is admirable, his accomplishments aren't really something to aspire to. Aside from separating CNN from several million dollars, his biggest contribution was being a really talented drone salesman.
Those consumerist videos may have gotten the most views but that wasn’t his culture. It’s also not his fault that people are drawn into that consumerism, therefore the algorithm promotes it. Beme was an app that actually could of done something good in the social media world. From my perspective every social media platform today has made our society far more depressed, anxious, greedy, and consumerist.
Casey singing on the way to the bank: «I’m the Robin in the hood, took all the money that I could... for of product that was no good! » :-) Thanks for the «what happened» video. I was a big fan of casey’s videos, before the launch of beme, till he went to LA. With perspective you come to think that the videos he was making was mainly to have an audience for his product coming up. Then it came out, was sold and Casey runned away with the money... And we never heard of what happened to the first floor of the building that was to become a multi task creative space. (Even if he would do videos again, I think the «Casey hype» is over).
Yeah. The whole ‘be real, no preview, view once then it is gone’ style of social media platform is so unattractive and uninspiring. Snapchat had a far better idea and model.
MARRIED W/ CHILDREN IS WHAT HAPPENED. Its the height and down of almost every creative. its rare to make it out of the constant teeter totter of attention a family and work puts ones though. Hence Los Angeles
This is so interesting to me because Casey said he wouldn’t have stayed with Candice if she gave up on HER business. This was because he said he couldn’t be with a “quitter”. That just feels so wrong after hearing this.
Kinda sucks that he doesn't do much content but I can understand him wanting to do more stuff with his family because he does have young children so I think once they grow up we will see more of him again.
Iv known a few larger business that have been bought out. Part of the deal is owners, and some staff are usually kept on for a period of time as part of the contract, to facilitate a smooth transition. After that time period, previous owners obligations are over, and much of the staff may be replaced.
The Corridor Cast TH-cam channel has a 12 minute video where they talk to Jake Roper about Beme behind the scenes. And a lot of the points you brought up are the same Roper mentions. For example: -Casey is a very independent person and didn’t like having to lead a large team -Beme itself seemed disorganized, there wasn’t a unified vision, their ideas and goals were always changing - Some of the products Beme tried to make sound terrible. For example one was where you could just choose whatever CNN livestream you wanted to watch so there could be no “bias” in your news but that definitely sounds like a way for people to cherry pick the information they want to see making it even more biased.
very well put! and yeah that live stream idea always sounded crazy to me. For one it sounded like it would be way too complex to navigate and on the other hand it would also be just plain boring. One of the main reasons for journalism is to translate and make accessible what world leaders are saying. Thanks for your comment!
I remember the intentionally makeshift looking news background they had for their Beme news videos… It was awful and the videos were very underwhelming.
