Hey Niamh how's it going? Sure is although I can see there will be more swearing than tinkering, I might me lucky with the studs. About time you put out another vid eh, nearly been as long as me!
Did mine immeadiatly after purchase 2.5 years ago. Used a toyosports one. Soak everything for ages. Use genuine toyota gaskets, head one about £25 and ring ones about £5 each. I replaced the three amigo bolts with just m8 40mm bolts and used a bit of exhaust paste there . Use only six point sockets. Crows feet sockets are great for the head bolts on retorque. Good luck.
I did the swap earlier this year. Hamish manifold, and refitted the original heatshields. I used the wrap too (Because why not eh???). Suggest when wrapping to tape the loose end of the wrap as it will unravel otherwise. I found the studs supplied with the Hamish manifold are made of chocolate. Less than a fiver at local motor factors for 3 replacements inc nuts I also fitted a decat main pipe at the same time, married up to my TTE backbox. Much noise, much fun, many pops and bangs Good luck
Superb...how did you find your old one came out, I'm expecting it to out up a fight lol. Good idea on taping the wrap until it gets a stainless tie on it!
Did mine ,as with all exhaust nuts and bolts they fuse up ,give them all a good soaking in some plus gaz. over a couple of days it will help and hopefully they won't snap off, just in case have a couple of manifold studs on standby. Don't be surprised if after fitting 02 sensor fault crops up , apparently it doesn't always it did on mine i fitted extenders all OK after. Also be careful around the flexible joint , their not that flexible as thy get older. Like us all really. Thanks again for the video
Haha hear you on the flexible thing! Thanks for the tips David. I'll swing by the dealer next time I'm passing and get some spare studs! I've got an impact gun, plus gas and blow torch at my disposal if gently gently doesn't do it lol
The right side cable to the manifold O2 sensor is a bit tight buy you can either unclipped the retainer from the side of the engine for a bit extra length or extend the cable. I haven't fitted it yet as u was waiting for my stainless exhaust which I've now got so it will all be going on I the next few weeks
Check out the affiliate sellers in the marketplace section on mr2 roadsters owners club forum. Hamish who sells them is also active on there. He buys them in batches search 'MR2ROC forum' 😀👍
I'm not sure about the less power claim as the removal of the precats from the system will allow a higher flow rate. I don't expect much if any power gains though. Sorry I'm not going to dyno the car before and after, it would be nice to do but would cost me hundreds!
this exhaust looks like a copy of the TRD one, however, lenght and angle are visible not the same, its very easy to get interference instead of scavenging. since no dyno, maybe do like four quarter mile runs and see if there's a difference :)
I've got to do my exhaust swap too never done one before tried to got a exhaust place but because you have a take off the back end no one want the job also was think of using titanium wrap too. I like like the look of it on motorcycles.
Not removed the manifold but did have cause to remove the top 2 O2 sensors and was told they are a pig to remove but after buying the correct removal socket I went for a drive to warm up the exhaust and the sensors ,,,, with a breaker bar they came out a treat
Dumb question alert from someone who doesn't have a clue: why did you go for a drive to warm it up first? I would have thought that heat would expand the metal in the thread and make it worse.
@@DadDiaries right,,thanks for your quick reply,,mine fail the emission,,i gutted the pre cat and i v got the tte dual box on,,its burning a bit of oil too so i m wondering if it might be the TTE box that is at fault,,,,peace
Me again sorry to be a pain. I'm not on Facebook and can't find him with a googlesearch and seem to have problems finding him on the MR2ROC forum. Have you got a way of sending me some sort of link for him so I can contact for an order of one of these pipes?
So I messaged him some time ago and asked questions in all the groups and he appears to have gone radio silent. He's on the supplier section in marketplace on MR2ROC as garage 55 I think
Have you done this and then had an MOT? Did it pass? I have heard the main cat is enough but other times it doesn’t pass... equally I don’t want my engine eating the precats either but it’s no good if it’s fails an MOT
Not yet no, I was waiting for my stainless exhaust which I managed to get a couple of weeks ago so I'll be fitting it all shortly. The pre cats are only there for emissions until the engine and main cat are warmed up so there shouldn't be any issues with the MOT'S and the such. When I've fitted it I'll get an emissions test done on the engine and cat cold and then warm to see if there is much of a difference. I've not heard of anyone in the MR2 community having MOT issues though :)
I’ve had no issues with my 05 car, it has a toyo sport header, Malian down pipe with 1 sports cat.. and a Malian centre exit final section.. so it’s a full stainless, I’ve had no issues with emissions on mot’s.
While the angle grinder idea would certainly make the job easier, I can't endorse it. Almost certainly 1 of the cylinders will have the exhaust valve open, and you definitely don't want any of the abrasive dust going down into the cylinder. Even for those that are closed, it would get on the valve stem and into the valve guide. Seems like a recipe for disaster. Take your time and do the job correctly.
Great video. Looking forward to seeing your review after the install.
Thanks, it will be a few weeks before it gets fitted but I'll cover the titanium wrap bit and then the install process :)
Always nice to get new parts! Looking forward to seeing you tinker with it! 😊
Hey Niamh how's it going? Sure is although I can see there will be more swearing than tinkering, I might me lucky with the studs. About time you put out another vid eh, nearly been as long as me!
I know haha it's been crazy since back to school. I need to get editing!! I have one I think you'll like 😂
Ok I'll keep an eye out

Not that I'm going the decat route but would a piggy back ECU also solve this rather than an aftermarket full ecu?
Yes. Stock ECU. I have spare sensors ready to fit. Going 2zz in the new year so just enjoying it for what it is for now

Did you fit extenders on all of the o2 spots or just the manifold or just the one after the cat?

@Dad Diaries the link for this header is no longer active, are these headers not made anymore? thanks

@@DadDiaries Tried to search for this but couldn't find it.
This forum has a very broken research function.
The link doesnt work and googling it doesnt get me anyhwere. Could you please provide ways to get in touch with the manufacturer?
I've tried messaging the seller direct and as yet haven't had any response, if they come back to me I'll update everyone :)
@@DadDiaries I also just tried the link. I bought a cheap eBay header and it is junk so keen to find this one if he is still making them.
I'm keen to buy one too
Please help 😁
I can’t find the company and these manifolds anywhere??
No... I'm not sure the seller has them made anymore, I did message him to see what the status was but they didn't come back to me
Can y'all make headers and exhaust for sw20
I don't make them in afraid.... Is there not a lot of suppliers for the MK2 SW20 then?
@@DadDiaries no one makes exhaust for k swap mr2 sw20s
Ahh I see, probably going to have to visit a custom exhaust shop then I reckon
@@DadDiaries yea
will these work on the old spec (1990/1991)
No they are specific for the ZZW30 MK3 MR2
I am curious about the exaust timings, by looking at it, this will produce less power then factory one.
can you dyno the car before and after ?
I'm not sure about the less power claim as the removal of the precats from the system will allow a higher flow rate. I don't expect much if any power gains though. Sorry I'm not going to dyno the car before and after, it would be nice to do but would cost me hundreds!

I was advised against the wrap as it can cause cracking on the manifold so I didn't do it in the end. Might do it on a bike one day though!
Would you be able to put the heat shield ontop of this? Does hamish still make this aswell? The link doesnt seem to work
I'm not sure if he sells these now. The latest design version removed the sheild brackets for a cleaner look. You can find him on the mr2roc.org site.

I did exactly the same to swap out the O2 sensor after the main cat!

great videothere,,quick question for you,,would you not fail on the MOT if you swap the precat for the stainless ???
No still meets the emissions requirement. The pre cat is only there to serve a purpose until the main cat is up to temps

This video is great, I’ve just picked up my MRS and will be following suit with the manifold. How has it affected the emissions at MOT time?
Cheers, there haven't been any issues come MOT time. I've done a fitting video for this as well buddy that you might find useful.👍
Dad Diaries I’ve watched it, it’s brilliant. One question though, this manifold is no longer on the market by the looks?
No it doesn't look like it at the moment. There are plenty similar.
Have you done this and then had an MOT? Did it pass? I have heard the main cat is enough but other times it doesn’t pass... equally I don’t want my engine eating the precats either but it’s no good if it’s fails an MOT
