This is a great video because it shows how to get the drive out. I want to shuck the drive and use it in something else because MyCloud home is a total piece of shit and it is better to use the drive in something else. Thanks!

I have managed to change a 5 y.o. 2 TB HDD with a 4 TB HDD after cloning the first one on the second one with Clonezilla. I am working now into creating an image file with the OS for this particular model, just in case @Peterman Builds you want to use another HDD as storage in your unit. Sorry, I saw that the video is old, but thanks to this video I managed to replace the 2 TB disk with a 4 TB one. So thanks! (PS: I will post a link with the OS image file as soon as I have it ready, I hope it won't bother you if I do so!)
in your video you said the original - before tear down, the unit did not work. By that did you mean unit is dead - no power ? or HDD coming with errors? If the unit is dead, swapping out the HDD won't necessarily make it work if the main board is faulty
The unit did turn on but was stuck with a quickly flashing white light. The plan that I had here did not end up fixing my problem and I ended up having to manually replace everything on the drive, I now keep a backup of it.
Peterman Builds mine keeps flashing too, but that means it’s offline. I only have no idea what the problem is since all of the Ethernet cables Re working.
Thanks for this video.... I have ordered a new 4tb wd my cloud. May I know the expected time it would last before failure, If kept on 24by7? Can u use the usb thats behind the cloud to expand storage or give backup
The USB3.0 port should be used for both expand or backup the internal drive. The internal drive should be WD Red, which has a long lifespan as it's a NAS drive.

Hello Peterman, thanks for the video it helps a lot!! one question : does changing the boards make it work and data accessible ? i hade the same issue and i'm going to buy another my cloud inorder to swap boards :(
this didnt end up working for me. Once I swapped the drive it would no longer turn on. I'm guessing that there is some extra setup that is done at the factory besides just set up. I ended up losing all the data I had on there. I now keep several backups of this drive in case it happens again.

@@petermanbuilds859 Once you replace the hard drive, there no system on the new one. You need to install the system and partition the drive.

You can see the data with a Linux Live USB Stick for an instance - and copy / recover any data from there.
can you connect the drive to pc to get the data? i heard that Nas drive cant read by window pc or it will be format?

Hi, did you try to connect the hard drive directly with a SATA cable to your CPU?
Never actually did try that, I ended up just cutting my losses and moving on.

Cant you just pry the upper cover out and replace the hard drive the intended way, or is that a myth i heard from the internet
