IT DOESN'T MATTER WHO COVERS THIS SONG. noone will ever sing it like adele or close to how amazing she sings it. this woman is god.
letterman has had many, many of the greats on his show but i've never seen him react this strongly. that gutteral "yeah" says it all.
All of her live performances are flawless. She is an amazing talent. We are all so lucky that she was discovered and we get to listen to her.
"Comeback anytime" an open invitation form mr Dave himself self. He has been doing this for 30+years. He really don't care anymore about people. But I've never seen him react sol impressed before to a performer. Good job adele. Love you!
I'm a 45 y/o life long \m/ METAL \m/ head, I can say without bias that this is truly one of the greatest songs I've EVER heard!! I didn't realize she had that soulfulness to her. Just BEAUTIFUL!!
Agree. Sometimes there are performances where it's just all on - the singer, the back up singers, the musicians - they're all on their A game. This was one of those times. I've watched this Letterman performance many times and it is just bang on, smoking hot good. Damn did they nail it.

She is a breath of fresh air. As mentioned, no backup dancers, gimmicks or fluff. Just a pure, effortless voice. She's stunning.
I think Dave liked the performance. He was super impressed. The open invitation "anytime" says it all. It was a "FANTASTIC" performance.
Basically when Dave says "come back any time" he means it. It means you've sealed it in his mind you're worthy any time on your show.
Her voice resembles heartbreak anyone could relate to. Adele you've created something so rare in music today. raw emotion. thank you.
Adele proves that you don't need to be a size zero bag of bones to be beautiful. She looks so beautiful here and she sounds absolutely stunning as always.
Adele: she demands respect without the command, and she does this because she is not your typical music model.. she is raw talent, she is quirky, her personality and humour oozes out making us want to sit with her hoping she might like us too, her voice is exceptional, and she is beautiful. Beautiful in the way that makes you think the saying "everyone is beautiful in their own way" truly rings true for her. Beautiful, not the classical type that is all over our billboards, but one of a kind.

Such exquisite talent! Like most singer/songwriters, Adele can infuse her performances with an amazing level of emotion because she is singing her own inspired words. Thanks to the US AFCent band Sidewinder and their lead singer Angie Johnson, who covered this song, I have discovered a precious gift - Adele and her music! Cannot wait to see what Adele brings to my world in the future!

Dave's a big music guy. A huge fan so I've seen him geek out before but nothing like this.
Only other time I've seen him like this was with Stevie Ray Vaughan.

@PhysicsMomsPrayer the back up singers smile and applauded her for that performance was truly special, Adele sang it to perfection live on national TV in the old Ed Sullivan theater that the Beatles performed on decades ago. The back singers would know more than just about anyone else when a special show happens and brings them to smile and applaud with the audience.

its amazing how every word is as clear as a bell no sharp intakes of breaths or letting the backup singers do the chorus for her. incredible talent.
"Come back anytime" was such a nod to Johnny Carson, and yet Letterman meant it as well after being blown away with Adele's performance. So many layers in all of this...In a single moment, Dave fully understood the magnitude of her once in a generation talent, fully understood his power as the King of Late Night Television at that point, and fully understood the gravity of the moment. Incredible.
I really flash on some of the great Brit voices of the 60s when I see this video. Yes, I'm old enough to remember them.
