So incredibly complicated setup just for a single short shot.
Listening to this with lyrics makes me realize just how clever tool is. Lyrics alone, this song managed to alter my perspective of my reality, freak me tf out, make my giggle, make me angry, etc. - and that’s without any visuals or instruments
@Jimmy Two Times As a 3D animator myself, I have nothing but respect for the traditional styles of animation. That being said, it is _so much cheaper_ to do it in CG now a days, and in a way that will look "better," that I couldn't even imagine trying to convince a client/employer to do something stop motion

I remember back before internet I’d have to stay up till midnight to watch the “metal” show on the music channels to hear Tool etc and I tell you what, being 12 and barely awake while watching a Tool music video was a trip I didn’t experience again till I was much older with added substances.
Me, too! I'd sneak out of my room to watch Headbanger's Ball in the living room, keeping the volume low so my parents wouldn't hear and sitting right in front of the screen. NiN's Wish blew me away. Tool and Alice in Chains are still favorites.

My favorite part has always been at 5:11 when the buildup of angst and discomfort and the feeling of being on the edge of your seat throughout the entire song finally just falls into this unexpectedly beautiful moment of relief and you’re finally able to lean back in your seat. On one of my very long, sleepless months of cold turkeys i endured, i found an old Triple J's Hottest One Hundred compilation cassette tapes in my parent garage, and it had Stinkfist on it, and it took my breath away, it is the first time my soul had been spoken too, and it became a massive support in the nights, when the world was sleeping but not me, body racked with withdrawal and the nights i was out having the time of my life. It took me another ten years to sort my life out, and one of the main constant staples was my love for TOOL. My crazy time as an out the gate, howling professional punk junky is now a life time ago, and a lot, most everything has changed, but not my love for TOOL. I still get a phenomenal buzz from listening to it

It's hard to say this but they took the spot Nirvana held in my heart. I was in bathroom one day about to intentionally overdose last year. But I made a playlist of Nirvana and tool. Ahead of its time and thought-provoking! Also, your guys' humor is something I can appreciate. 4:56 is true-to-life and takes some of the edge off the serious tone. Kinda weird sounding, but funny and nice!! May some suffering soul out that way be delivered from the rut he/she/whoever is in, and I'm not just saying that! I can relate to much of this from my days in college in the liberal arts. It tricks your eyes and ears - seeing and hearing certain people dress and talk the way they do - I mean. But they're really aching to have you and me see and hear their thoughts, maybe subtly intervene somehow and lead them by example in some way, quite honestly. I think that maybe some of us who are moved by their "presentation(s)" could use to be more prepared before such times come around next time that they do (and less passive during them). And we might experience and live in the confidence we wished that we had had around such peers of ours. What you may have been witnessing was some kind of volatile pressure - what they had taken on and allowed to define them. THEY were the ones who were "ahead of the pack," though; but remember, you weren't one of those who had to carry these individuals' abnormal-looking/weird-sounding pressure. (I do tend to want to embody a more well-balanced approach to solving problems such as those pointed out in the lyrics in the lives of these different struggling individuals you grouped together, especially since - like some kind of trap they were waiting for you to fall into - being so sharp-tongued just seems to stir up resentment and jumping to conclusions is a great way to lose a friend or other concerned party's trust. A wise young male nurse once asked me as he concluded a few thoughts one day and began to look away and off to the side, "What is normal??" Can't say I'm a huge fan of Tool, but as I'm getting older I'm liking more & more there songs. They are definitive but also very relevant to world around us!
I disagree. Children (0-3 months) fall asleep rather well when listening to heavy rhythmic stuff. They are used to this kind of sounds from the time they were inside. If you can't get the children to sleep wit metal, its not playing loud enough. Tested on my own and some other children.

actually it's really good to play complex music to babies, it's a misconception that you have to play "easy" music (e.g. nursery rhymes, pop music) to babies... they learn music kinda the same way they learn language, so the more diverse and complex stuff you expose them to, the better:)

It blew my mind and my soul is quaking in the air above my essence it’s the way god created rock and roll to be!

Ahead of its time and thought-provoking! Also, your guys' humor is something I can appreciate. 4:56 is true-to-life and takes some of the edge off the serious tone. Kinda weird sounding, but funny and nice!! May some suffering soul out that way be delivered from the rut he/she/whoever is in, and I'm not just saying that! I can relate to much of this from my days in college in the liberal arts. It tricks your eyes and ears - seeing and hearing certain people dress and talk the way they do - I mean. But they're really aching to have you and me see and hear their thoughts, maybe subtly intervene somehow and lead them by example in some way, quite honestly. I think that maybe some of us who are moved by their "presentation(s)" could use to be more prepared before such times come around next time that they do (and less passive during them). And we might experience and live in the confidence we wished that we had had around such peers of ours. What you may have been witnessing was some kind of volatile pressure - what they had taken on and allowed to define them. THEY were the ones who were "ahead of the pack," though; but remember, you weren't one of those who had to carry these individuals' abnormal-looking/weird-sounding pressure. (I do tend to want to embody a more well-balanced approach to solving problems such as those pointed out in the lyrics in the lives of these different struggling individuals you grouped together, especially since - like some kind of trap they were waiting for you to fall into - being so sharp-tongued just seems to stir up resentment and jumping to conclusions is a great way to lose a friend or other concerned party's trust. A wise young male nurse once asked me as he concluded a few thoughts one day and began to look away and off to the side, "What is normal??" He's right to wonder, you know...well sorry about the length of this. I hope that in reading this somebody can be helped someplace! Maybe you don't feel that special or seen enough...well, just be encouraged!

The Flood is a favorite Tool song. Cool video too. Great lyrics, melody and plenty of vocals that really showed the talent of Maynard Keenan. I hope they return with more songs in this style in the next album hopefully.

I disagree. Children (0-3 months) fall asleep rather well when listening to heavy rhythmic stuff. They are used to this kind of sounds from the time they were inside. If you can't get the children to sleep wit metal, its not playing loud enough. Tested on my own and some other children.
Can I play tool at a moderate volume for babies?
@@RedMephit Not sure about Tool - too complex, many changes in rhythm and volume. I have to try that. I recommend the "monotonous" stuff (no disrespect meant here) like death metal or sludge metal. Death is generally good, also Ygg or Ufomammut.
actually it's really good to play complex music to babies, it's a misconception that you have to play "easy" music (e.g. nursery rhymes, pop music) to babies... they learn music kinda the same way they learn language, so the more diverse and complex stuff you expose them to, the better:)

I love all their videos.....but this will always be my favorite. I wore out my Salival VHS(ikr?) watching this video....
Something about the color palette, the overall mood, the prismatic refracted lighting, the rippling water....it's all so visually evocative and dream-like. And the fact Adam combined all these fluid dynamic elements with stop motion is pretty incredible. But also...all the textures are so interesting. The calcified chalky coral of the little creature's body comes to mind.
It's like Adam took imagery straight out of my own subconscious dream imagery to make this. So interesting....
