That said....I give Eddie credit for the lift, and it was amazing, but Hafthor gets credit as well. The condition of being in a competition is only there so that rules are followed for the legitimacy of the lift. There is nothing special, otherwise. Most world record sprinters are around 6ft, talent scouts were not looking at tall teenagers as future sprint talent, now they will be due to Bolt's success. Strong men have always had big, tall men competing, but even Hafthor is way taller than most. I think he will inspire tall teenagers to consider strong Man, the bigger you are the more muscle potential you have. Bolt was something of an anomaly in that he married the best aspects of both, so we had a tall, long striding, slender yet quick twitch dominant guy hence he obliterated all records. Ever notice how out of the blocks he was never the fastest as he lacked the initial explosiveness, but once he got into his stride he glided past the field effortlessly.

In my opinion Makarov needs to slow down. I have watched all of his attempts so far and and there is barely any "walk up, get strapped and position and lift" he kind of walks up and lifts. There is no hesitation or positioning or anything. The reason it's so hard to beat Eddie's record isn't because people can't do it, there are guys as strong or stronger than Eddie out there, but it's a matter of really sacrificing your body to train one lift for one rep, and every time you practice a rep of 400kg+ you're risking tearing muscles, injuring your back, knees, having a brain bleed, etc. So, for a lot of these guys who are trying to win WSM and do other things with their career, it's simply not worth the time, dedication and risk to focus on one lift to the point of setting a record.
Case in point: Mitch Hooper giving everything here just to get 450kg up past his knees one time. Makarov gassing out so much on his warmup rep that he looked like he needed to go lie down. You basically get one shot every couple of days to do this (provided you're not injured), and have a high chance of being injured in doing it, so you can see why most people just don't bother.

To take a world record you should do it in the same fashion or with less aids as the previous world record holder. If someone does it with no body suit on then if you beat theirs with a body suit it really shouldn't count, maybe a new record with the aid of a body suit. There needs to be rules over this so one guy doesn't have an advantage over another.
