Really helpful video. The problem with models like this (I have the AN515-43) is that you have to take off the whole heat sink even if you just want to properly dust off the fans and vents. I'd cleaned and repasted mine just four/five months ago but then it started overheating again due to I assume dust accumulation. So just to clean out the fans and vents I had to take the whole heat sink off and repaste it again. Unless I'm missing something, this seems like a very annoying design flaw.

Can you remove fans seperately without having to repaste? Also, which fan is the cpu fan? I just have a faulty bearing in my cpu fan that i want to replace but my paste is in good condition already. Thanks
Not possible. The fans can be pulled from underneath so in order to do that, you have to lift the cooler. But fresh paste is always better than good condition one :)
No matter how fresh paste it, laptop manufacturers use cheap and low quality thermal compounds which isn't good for heat dissipation but lasts very long without drying (That's what they focus on) , just after warranty period is over clean its fans and apply good thermal compound, in my case i applied liquid metal, its quite risky and expensive but also worth it, it reduced temps down up to 25 degrees Celsius.
i repasted my acer nitro 7 last month, accidentally removed pink putty from the VRMs, replaced them with 1 mm thermal pads and it worked fine for me just in case anyone did the same
So I wanted to change thermal paste into a graphite thermal pad but didn’t know how to disassemble my nitro5. Then, I found this vid and successfully managed to apply my thermal pad, clean out fan dust and it works so fine! Before I apply my thermal pad, i got low score and high temp(up to 92 degrees) in cinebench R23(Multicore). Now I only get to 66 degrees! Thank you so much. :)
a part from the 2 locations you put thermal paste what do you recomend for the other 4 slots in colour rose? is it thermal paste or thermal pad? Mine are too dried that I need to replace but I don´t know exactly what to put. Regards
The pink stuff is not a paste. It is thermal putty, and it is normal to be more dry than the paste. Don't put thermal pads on it's place. I usually don't replace it, just try to spread it a little bit. Otherwise you can look for thermal putty on Amazon or so...
Thank you so much, this video helped me so much. My processor was running at 92 degrees Celsius, now it is sitting at 60-70. I do have to open it again and lubricate the fans. What do you recommend to use as lubrication? And again, thank you. You are godsent.
Just followed this guide and a couple other ones cause I have a different model. Everything went good and temps significantly decreased but my cpu load is higher for some reason and spiking up to 30 sometimes almost 100 percent despite being 50 and 44 degrees. I might’ve put too much thermal paste. Any insight would be appreciated.
The load has nothing to do with the temps. Probably you have some software running on background, like windows update, Defender scan or so. Open Task manager and check what is taking that 30% of load.
Is the Arctic MX-2 the best thermal paste to use with heavy loads and high temperatures? Also do I need to spread it around like you did or can I use the pea method or the line method?
I use mx-2 because it is the best about price/performance. It last about 2 years before drying. All depend on the load... Also there is not a lot of difference about applying the paste. When you put the cooler and tide the screws it will even the paste. I like to spread it before.

I cleaned ton of dust accumulated after over 1.5 years of usage and applied thermal grizzly liquid metal on CPU and GPU dies and believe me temperature has dropped like 20+ degree Celsius, its over 1 week since cleaning and I'm still scared if liquid metal messes up something inside
When applying liquid metal is a good idea to put heat resistant tape around the crystal, this way it the metal gets around, the parts will be protected.
Hello. I have followed these steps thouroughly but now my laptop won't start up anymore. The screen stays black, the keyboard lights up and the charger light turns on when plug it in. The fans don't seem to be spinning either. Any suggestion?
Hello again and thanks for the replies. I've changed the fans with a new set and these spin when turning on as well as slowing down after a few seconds but I'm still getting a black screen with no backlight, keyboard lighting up but only key that does anything is the power on or hold to power off. I've tried another monitor, reseating SSD, ram, bios battery, power drain, key combinations, starting without ram or SSD and a few other things. Do you have any advice before I take it to an overpriced repair shop? Thanks and have a good evening
Did the laptop worked fine before you open it on first place. Also when you try to power it on is it completely assembled. You have to put the memory cover, because underneath is a small switch. If is not press it act like that.
Should I change pink paste with pads but not sure about thickness of pads that I need to use as substitute for pink paste, pads should be what 0.5,1,1.5,2? 🤔 Some help would be nice.
@@LaptopDisassembly thanks for the reply! I’ve had a heat warp on my fans for a while where it makes a loud irritating noise even after cleaning them they still make noise. I’m ordering new fans and I’m gonna take out the old ones and put in the new
I'm having some issues with my laptop, makes loud sounds from the fan. I don't have money to bring it in to get cleaned by a professional. I found some tools laying around and managed to open the back using your video. Got the fan screws. But every single cooler screw will not budge. Is there an alternate way I can clean the fan? Had a lot of dust. And there's some loose pet hairs inside, likely from the fan. Is it safe to use my vacuum to suck it out? I don't want to risk ruining it as the vacuum is quite strong and I know electronics are very delicate. Would using my vacuum cleaner on the fan damage anything??? Also the black and yellow tape/tabs have hardly any stick to them. What are they and is it possible to replace them? I don't want them to come loose and it stop working. This laptop is all I have and was very expensive which I only got through very lucky circumstances and I would never be able to get another one for years if something happened to it. I'm gonna close it up and put all the screws back, and just hope the tiny bit of dust I got out with my fingers and the screwdriver (gently) will help.
Use a vacuum cleaner. Hold the fan, so it doesn't spinn and try to suck whatever you can. Also you can try and blow from outside while vacuuming. This way you will clean the dust, but it is good idea to replace the thermal paste also.
@@LaptopDisassembly it sounds much better after using the vacuum. Also my GPU and stuff's rpm is much lower now, I don't know what they mean but noticed they were getting higher with time. Amy games I play are also running much more smoothly too and my computer sounds normal again. I got a question, are the fans taped there? You were cutting it in the video to lift them, if so what tape is it and do i have to put it there if i want to replace the fans
The tape is more for stability. The fans are held by few screws for the metal part, so if you replace them, you may or may not put the tape. You can use a regular electric tape.
Wait so do you not have to reapply loctite to the screws? My silver screws have traces of blue loctite on them, and so do the black screws that go on the exterior of the bottom lid. Does this just not need to be redone? Please and thank you
I have the same laptop. One of the fans is making noise, very loud. I took it apart and realized that it is only one fan making noise. If I put slight pressure on it, the noise goes away. To replace it, do I need to purchase the entire part with the heat sinks or can I just buy the fan and replace the individual fan? I looked on amazon and I see fans, but for my part number it shows the entire piece with heat sink. Is it possible to buy one fan and replace it?
@@LaptopDisassembly I found it on amazon. They sell them seperately. Are both fans the same? My laptop has the same part number for both, but they kind of look different. I have an Acer Nitro 5 AN5 15-54 series.
Why didn't u try to discharge the static electricity after unplugging the battery by holding the power button for 20-30 seconds? I'm confused because you and my usual technician don't do that but everyone on forums etc suggest that's a really important thing to do to avoid short circuit hha
Hello, i would like to replace my fans and thermal paste, but in the process, i would like to put in new fans, do you know any which are BETTER than the original ones? maybe some tips? anyone? i would appreacite any help. My model : Nitro AN515-52 I know a lot about computers but notebooks are kind of different branch
Well you can't put whatever fan you want. It has to be compatible for the model. Best way is to use the origunal ones. If they work fine, a little lubrication will maket them like new. If they are noy working fine than replace them with the same model. Otherwise you may have problema with rpm and etc.
Man i have this laptop and one of the fans has started to wobble ive cleaned it and everything and it will still do it i dont know what else to do other then replace the hole fan setup but i dont wanna do that just to have this same thing happen again..
I know this is an old video but I can't find a definitive answer anywhere... would u happen to know the thermal pads thickness for that particular model? The few places I did find, say 1 mm but then some say u need both 1.5 and 1mm. I just want to avoid the situation where the laptop is taken apart and I find out I don't have the right pads.
Thermal pads should be 1mm. But you can easily use 1.2 or 1.5mm ( soft ones ) and they will get flatten. I usually don't replace the thermal pads and the thermal putty, if they are in a good condition. They don't "dry" out like the paste. So you can only replace the paste. But if u decide to replace the pad also, get a Thermal Grizzly or some other quality ones, otherwise you will have a negative effect.
@@LaptopDisassembly Yea, ordered 1mm Thermal Grizzly minus pad extreme, probably an overkill but still. Laptop is 5 years old, I replaced the paste with mx-4 2 months after buying it in late 2019, the pads and the putty were ok at the time but I imagine they won't be now and I figured since I wanna clean the fans I might as well replace everything. Considering the laptop's age, this will likely be the last such maintenance it will see before getting replaced.

How long will this last. When will it need redoing?
Well you will notes when you have to replace it again. I usually put arctic mx-2 or mx-4 and it last about 1.5-2 years.
The video I needed fr 🙏🙏
Totally worth every single second ❤️
Thank you i cleaned my laptop good guide
This was very helpful! Thank you!
I know that I would have to do this sometime if I want to keep my laptop running well.
good video, it was very useful
Thank you very much for the very informative video!
i repasted my acer nitro 7 last month, accidentally removed pink putty from the VRMs, replaced them with 1 mm thermal pads and it worked fine for me just in case anyone did the same
This is what I've been searching all this time.
I put 0.5 mm thermal pad, it works for my nitro 5, predator helios 300
Is it 1 mm for all 4 VRMs?
It should be. All are on the same level.
@@iFrozenSkull it is same for all VRMs, 1 mm is what I am using. For CPU they are of different sizes.
Thank you, this video help me a lot! You are really doing a good job, thanks man.👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Great video, keep going 🦾🦾🦾
a part from the 2 locations you put thermal paste what do you recomend for the other 4 slots in colour rose? is it thermal paste or thermal pad? Mine are too dried that I need to replace but I don´t know exactly what to put. Regards
The pink stuff is not a paste. It is thermal putty, and it is normal to be more dry than the paste. Don't put thermal pads on it's place. I usually don't replace it, just try to spread it a little bit. Otherwise you can look for thermal putty on Amazon or so...
Хорошая работа! Удачи тебе.
9:14 is that dust? I thought it just some fiber acting as dust filter? But this made huge difference I got low temp around 29C
Thank you so much, this video helped me so much. My processor was running at 92 degrees Celsius, now it is sitting at 60-70. I do have to open it again and lubricate the fans.
What do you recommend to use as lubrication? And again, thank you. You are godsent.
I use regular machine oil.
thank you very much you helped me a lot.
Glad I could help!
very useful video,, i wish i didn't have two stripped screws right on the end of the fan area
very helpful. thanks😊😊
lets go i found the fans for like 12 bucks
Just doing this on my laptop thank you for the vid, what is the pink paste?
It is thermal putty. Different viscosity of the paste. I usually don't replace it.
What is the screw size you use to remove the cpu screws?
Thank you for your video. Why didn't you change the pink paste? It's seems dry to me
The pink one is not a thermal paste, it is more thicker. It comes like that from factory.
@@LaptopDisassembly Yes the viscosity of the thermal paste matters.
Hi, what screwdriver are you using at 3:50? I can not take it off with my #0 & #1-2 :(
I use the regular Philips screw from the set. I post it in the description.
@Laptop Disassembly crap... I also use a regular one and magnetic one. Is it normal that I can't move the screw at all? The same one from 3:50
@@edmond3933 try to push a bit harder and at the same time try to twist. Sometimes the glue on the screw is a bit hard. Last case you can drill the head of the screw and remove the rest with a pliers or tweezers.
Thank you for the great video, please at 4 minut 01 econds what is the size of the screwdriver you are using, i have bought several kits but no one is matching the size of the screws i just don t know how to release these 4 screws - the other ones on the left size are another size, please help me we try to change the fans, thanks a lot
I use Philips PH0... And I use it for almost every laptop. If I need to unscrew smaller screws I use PH00.
Just push a little and at the same time twist. The first time is a bit hard to unscrew them. Don't worry, they can handle pressure.
@@LaptopDisassembly Thx a lot for the quick response happy week end
I cleaned ton of dust accumulated after over 1.5 years of usage and applied thermal grizzly liquid metal on CPU and GPU dies and believe me temperature has dropped like 20+ degree Celsius, its over 1 week since cleaning and I'm still scared if liquid metal messes up something inside
When applying liquid metal is a good idea to put heat resistant tape around the crystal, this way it the metal gets around, the parts will be protected.
@@LaptopDisassembly I did more than that , i applied two conformal coating layers and then covered with electric tape
Do I need the thermal paste so the fan wont be able to come off? Because I dont have thermal paste and I just want to clean the fan only
If you lift the cooler you need to replace the thermal paste. Otherwise you can use a vacuum cleaner to suck the dust from the fan.
How often is it advisable to maintain my laptop? How long does your laptop use?
All depend on how you use it and it what environment. But usually on year and a half or 2 years you have to clean it.
Do I need to put in new Thermal pasting? Or can I keep the original and use the QTIP?
If you lift the cooler you have to replace it.
Hello. I have followed these steps thouroughly but now my laptop won't start up anymore. The screen stays black, the keyboard lights up and the charger light turns on when plug it in. The fans don't seem to be spinning either. Any suggestion?
Check did you connect the power button cable also check the memory is it inserted properly
@@LaptopDisassembly cables are inserted properly and I've reinvested the ram. Nothing changed
Are you shure you did not damage something. Also did you closethe back cover.. Sometimes there is a switch on the board.
I never replace them, usually they are around 1mm
What is the name of the pink paste? Where can I buy it?
To replace the fans… do I need to buy the whole unit or can I just purchase the fans individually and screw them off and put the new ones in
You can replace only the fans... As you see in the video, there are few small screws, that are holding them to the cooler.
Thanks for your video, I was so scared of ruining something after I got the screw off to take the back off before I found it. I was having a hard time figuring out how to remove the back and getting it off was difficult after your video told me how to remove it. But with your instruction I got it!
Have a good day/night
What kind of paste is the pink stuff? How would I be to replace it?
It is kind on thermal pad. If is all there, i advice you to use the same. It looks like gum, but it is normal.
@@LaptopDisassembly Thank you.
But if I were to replace it in the future, how would I?
@@crocomire9482 Just buy a good thermal pads with the right thickness. Around 1mm

This is very informative. I have 2 problem doing this though as one of the screws that's fixes the heat sink is stuck to the board and Im not sure how to loosen it. Other is the tiny screws which opens the heat sink for which I can't find a screwdriver that fits. Please help with ur opinion bro.
I think I have a link in the description about the screwdriver that I use. To loosen the screw.. just have to push down and twist at same time.
@@LaptopDisassembly yeah I just ordered a set that has ph00 and ph000 drivers which is the ones in the set u recommend. Didn't buy the same one as the shipping cost is too much
The little black tape holding the battery down ripped a little I still put it down over the battery but will it effect anything ?
Is there some lights when you power on, or some else activity. Please describe the behavior. Replug the memory also.
l need the fans replaced in this model. Can you do a tutorial about that please?
I don't have the laptop anyone. It was a customer one. Just search about them on eBay or AliExpress by model and you will find them.
What screwdriver did you use on the tiny screws on to the heatsink?
Ph00
@@LaptopDisassembly thanks
You can buy only the fan, no need to buy the whole set. Give me the full laptop model and I can have a look tomorrow.
@@LaptopDisassembly I found it on amazon. They sell them seperately. Are both fans the same? My laptop has the same part number for both, but they kind of look different. I have an Acer Nitro 5 AN5 15-54 series.
Im looking to clean the fans on my laptop but wondering I do need to replace the paste if I take it apart or would I be fine?
If you lift the cooler, you have to replace the paste. Otherwise the temps may go higher.
My model : Nitro AN515-52
I know a lot about computers but notebooks are kind of different branch
Well you can't put whatever fan you want. It has to be compatible for the model. Best way is to use the origunal ones. If they work fine, a little lubrication will maket them like new. If they are noy working fine than replace them with the same model. Otherwise you may have problema with rpm and etc.
Is it possible to clean only fans from dust, without removing whole heatsink?
It will be very hard. The fans are connected with the cooling pipe.
Man i have this laptop and one of the fans has started to wobble ive cleaned it and everything and it will still do it i dont know what else to do other then replace the hole fan setup but i dont wanna do that just to have this same thing happen again..
Well, sometimes the fans do go bad. If the cleaning and lubricating doesn't help, than you need to replace it.
What screwdriver are u using?
The alliexpress link is down 😓
That is the set... digishop.fi/en/products/best-precision-tools-bt-8912-45-pcs .... but you can use any Philips PH0 and PH00 screwdriver
So what would happen if I didn't remove the old thermal paste and then put the heatsink back on without putting any new paste on?
The cooling will get worst.
Hi, what screwdriver are you using to unscrew the small black screws of the fan?
Thank you
Well I have just a regular Philips screwdriver with smaller tip.
Hey what size of philip head screw driver to use to loosen the fan screws?
The smaller one for the FAN is PH00, the other one is PH0
@@LaptopDisassembly thx
Hi, i have this laptop for 4 years. I regularly clean fans and all inside the case where i can reach. I never renew the thermal paste. Im still using factory paste. Actually temperatures are still good. Im in 45-55 C in normal (turbo boost off 2.4ghz). On load i see 85-95 C (fixed 3.0 Ghz or over). Idle temperatures are fine but i want to get rid of high temps on load. Should i change the paste? I will use mx-4 if i change. Btw my fans in good condition like new but I don't know if there is as much dust on the inside as in this video?
Probably there is a layer a f dust inside. Replace the thermal paste and clean, and the temps will drop.
@@LaptopDisassembly thank you for your quick answer. I replaced new thermal paste and temps dropped. before replace i got 75-85 C on 3.0 ghz in game and now i have 66-69 with 1 level less fan. Thank you. also game fps drops mostly decreased. for 4 years, there is not so much dust on fan grids. not like video, 2-3 piece of dust only.
I can't get the exhaust (rear) section to come off, front and middle open fine but the rear wont let me take it off what should I do?
Try to tilt it left-right a little bit... It will get loose.
Hello, what screwdriver size do you need for the gray screws on the CPU part?
The green/black one is PH0 and the yellow/black one is PH00.

Do you have to re apply thermal paste if your just cleaning the fans?
