Had a busted GPU fan on my Nitro 5. It kept making a whirring and rattling noise so I finally decided to replace it myself. This video is an absolute gift it helped with the replacement everything worked like a charm. No more noise now and temps easily dropped by 5-10 degrees Celsius. Thank you so much man absolute legend!

Really helpful video. The problem with models like this (I have the AN515-43) is that you have to take off the whole heat sink even if you just want to properly dust off the fans and vents. I'd cleaned and repasted mine just four/five months ago but then it started overheating again due to I assume dust accumulation. So just to clean out the fans and vents I had to take the whole heat sink off and repaste it again. Unless I'm missing something, this seems like a very annoying design flaw.

What is the screw size you use to remove the cpu screws?

  • @selmama0811

Finally got around to doing this and my laptop is immediatelly so much better! It used to start overheating after like 5 minutes of having a browser and Discord open and now it's so quiet I almost thought I didn't reconnect the fans properly 😂 temps according to the NitroSense used to be above 80°c and now they're in the 40's! Thank you for this step-by-step, it was genuinely very helpful!

notebook poorly built, there should be a way to clean without touching the thermal paste of the CPU

Wait so do you not have to reapply loctite to the screws? My silver screws have traces of blue loctite on them, and so do the black screws that go on the exterior of the bottom lid. Does this just not need to be redone? Please and thank you

I highly doubt the customer was using the wrong screwdriver because the manufacturer over tightened some of the screws on the vent. I had to destroy 2 of the screws and buy replacements when I was cleaning my laptop.

What tools do I need to do this procedure?

Thanks for this! I just bought an Acer Nitro 5 from a local second hand shop (Cash Converters in the UK). Got home and ran Heaven Benchmark on it - temps on the 1050 were hitting 95 degrees! Opened it up - caked in dust! Used a blower to get most out, then took apart the fans - just as clogged as the ones in your video. Clean them out, changed the thermal paste (MX-4), put it back together and ran Heaven Benchmark again. Temps had dropped to 63 degrees. Thanks again for the vid! 🙂

haven't been able to find a video for a 54 model, thanks!

  • @aidant2154

I wasn’t sure how to take the fans apart, this video showed me exactly how. I also found the same amount of dust collected around the edges of the fans. Removing those dropped my by temps by 10-15 degrees Celsius in game and idling. Thank you so much.

Super duper video! Thank you so much!! Has fixed the problem of a rattling fan and abnormal fan noise. We have Acer Nitro 5 of different model, where fans can't be unscrewed. But the idea is clear - big lumps of dust are present - you just need to get access to them. In our model I carefully pulled the fans off a frame, and scraped out dust clumps with flat screwdriver from around the perimeter of each fan, and brushed off the blades carefully. Ordered thermo paste. Will apply it when it comes. Super happy!

Thanks man. Cleaned the fans and changed the thermal paste. I went from 96 celsius with turbo mode disabled to 67 Celsius with turbo mode enabled while gaming. Now I can use the full boost clock of CPU.
