Quick Reminder - If your game ever goes too far away from what you see in the tutorial series, I've just uploaded every SAVEGAME for every episode in this series. Please don't think like "Oh, I must have goofed - RAGE QUIT" - the game has a degree of randomness by design, so it's far more likely that you did everything right, and the randomness is what's behind things looking different. So instead of going crazy over how and why it went wrong, feel free to grab whichever episode you last felt comfortable with, and go from there. I spent the last couple hours making that possible, so please make use of it. Link: gamesbrains.com/index.php/complete-guide-to-hoi4-2024-edition-tutorial-save-games/
@KenD67 You know what I renamed that savegame "Tutorial fail" to play on my own after I finished tutorial lol. Also you can downgrade HOI4 by right click on steam ->property-> beta and select corresponding versions (1.13.7 for this series), so that you can continue playing old saves.
Thank you for the the saves! Funny bit of randomness, the Spanish civil war never happened in my play through... I let the game run into September of 1936
I really like the way you interpret how many of these bonuses and penalties work associating them to how it would actually happen in real life. Picturing it really helps with memorizing what lots of the confusing numbers actually do
Four days after my purchase, almost ready to start playing on my own. I think. Regarding the Research bonuses @8:30 (and last video), it actually does make sense. It's a bonus to research speed, not a reduction of required research. Look at it as a number of people working on a project that requires 100 Science Things to be scienced. If a single scientist can do 1 Science Thing per day (write a report, do an experiment, whatever) it obviously takes 100 days to science the appropriate 100 Science Things. If you increase the number of scientists by 100%, you now have 2 scientists sciencing on the same project. That's 2 Science Things built per day, so the initial number of 100 Science Things now takes 50 days to complete rather than 100.
Your complete walk thru of this game is what has made me decide that hoi4 WILL be my next game. Before i found your tutorials i was overwhelmed with all the menu options but not now. THANK YOU SO MUCH.
Hey man! I really appreciate the work and detail you put into this videos. You are the only person to explain it in such a detail that i am able to really understand and grasp the game. You are intellegent and really know your stuff and i appreciate that. respect and thank to you. Greetings Luca
im learning to play HOI after playing every other paradox game and found it pretty confusing. Your tutorials have been really helpful, thanks!!! Greetings from Spain
I have owned this game for a while now. Always too intimidated to play. After watching your videos I'm enjoying this game so much. Thank you for your time and effort you put into the tutorials!! ❤
This is fantastic!! Free HOI4 weekend, tried the game tutorial, that was not very helpful, watched someone else's 45 min tutorial, and that was not very helpful. Found yours and said one last chance. After part 3 of your tutorial, I bailed on following along, stated my own game with my own thoughts, play a bit, watch episode, rinse and repeat.. I'm making some mistakes but am learning a lot through the process. Just pulled the trigger and bought the game. There is a lot going on in the game but your level of detail and thoughtfulness really takes the daunting aspects away and make the game enjoyable. I look forward to finishing your tutorial and experimenting with the multiple paths the game allows you to take.
hello. I would like to thank you very much indeed for doing these videos. HOI4 is a game i have tried unsuccessfully to play since I first bought it. Now, thanks to your videos i am understanding it more and better; cheers! Only hiccup so far is when your game notified of Spains civil war my game had to play until 20th august lmao, so I am reloading to try and get it happening near the time in your game. thanks again.
Thank you for your answer. Actually in the meantime I managed to download the correct version to load your savegames (found this hint in another comment), so all is good. Thank you so much for your videos, I'm now dealing with part 17 already.
Thank you so much for this tutorial series. I just picked the game up on the free weekend. The tutorial I found was confusing, and did not explain things. I love how in depth you explain the game. This is how I learn, to follow along with somebody with a lot of information thrown in. I'm on this episode now and I just bought the base game. At 80% off how can I go wrong? I'll keep on going through the tutorial series but I wanted to say thank you for what I have learned so far. :)
the way i think of the that 100% research speed bonus is, instead of thinking of it like a discount at a store, think of it like a car going 100% faster. if a car can go 30 MPH but then gets a better engine that increases its speed by 100% then the car can go 60 MPH. so that 100% speed increase leads to the car traveling the same distance in half the time.
So after 6 parts its my time to leave a comment aswell. Thanks a lot for doing this i had the game for years but with your help i finally can get into it. Also as a German your pronounciations are often times really really good. The names you are butchering are kind of special cases even for native speakers
Leaving you comments and likes on each one, because you're amazing. Also my civil war happened months ago and I didn't know what to do so I didn't respond lol
What happened to the air support for the planes assigned to Rommel's army?
8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1
It doesn't seem to work without the Waking the Tiger DLC (which apparently is now free). By assigning them to the General, all it seems to do is automatically attempt to move to an airfield close to that general, so that it can offer support. In this case it has already moved to the closest available airfield, which is in southern Germany, but that's still too far. I think that's what's going on.
Kind words - Thank you... There's actually a reason behind me doing this beyond the obvious "helping new players learn HOI4". If you want to know why, I'll say it this once. In 2024, one of the things TH-cam encourages content creators to do - and has done for some years, is create lots of shorter, fast-paced videos. While this can be great, especially for easy question / answers "the fastest 3 cars" etc, as well as for those with low attention spans - it also begins to foster a certain "fakeness" on how people are in these videos. This is NOT a criticism, rather it's an observation. This is how YT can steer most content creators (if I make a video this way, I get more likes etc). Yes, while content creators will generally end up with more views/likes by creating that style of content, it has the effect of leaving a many people out there (and I'm one of them) feeling like "everything seems a bit plastic, hollow, faux".. People who prefer a more traditional style of presentation, less fake, more connected, less rushed, more detailed - we tend to feel kinda left out, at least I do by some of the most modern styles and methods (perhaps I'm just getting old, who knows!) I realise the end result, unedited version of videos, mistakes warts and all, is not to everyone's taste, but it is THE MOST AUTHENTIC type of video. I made the deliberate decision to make a series where this (granted smaller group overall, but still covers many people) will be able to sit, enjoy watching and learning, and hopefully feel comfortable as it happens, without feeling like they're being shunted around youtube every 5 minutes. Because you and I both know, we don't try to pretend every little things is "OMG AMAZING" - we just speak normally. Those people who cant stand this style of content will click off in the first 30 seconds anyway, but reading comments like yours, really gives me all the reason & justification I needed to make such a tutorial series - So Thank you too.
Man, this kind of reply, makes me smile and makes me thankful that there are people who stil think and care. Thank you for this and for all the work you put in to it... A Hello from Portugal 🌞🌞
Wow, thank you again for your support across numerous episodes on the channel. It means a lot to know you felt these were good enough to justify leaving a couple of generous tips, and additional supportive comments. Please don't forget to ask me any questions on things you're not entirely sure about.
so it's crazy my civil war for Germany popped out May 16th while for the us game it popped out in March! But super helpful info on dealing with this despite going back and forth a bit in the vid
this isn't my first playthrough, but I still don't really know how to play that well. I'm trying to follow along with this playthrough tutorial, but I'm in July 1936 and the Spanish civil war has been on for a month or two already. Though these tutorials have helped me immensely as I didn't really know that I could assign air wings to armies.
the 100% research bonus is probably a boost to speed, so not a 100% boost/reduction in research time, if you get what i mean. That would make it make sense at least for why its 50% of the time, and not just instantaneous.
Just a quick correction: you lose Hjalmar Schacht once you do the focus 'Demand the Suddetenland'. Not technically for the rest of the game. Great content
This has been incredibly helpful but I could not get the spanish civil war to start anywhere near when it did in your tutorial - I saved in July, had it running all the way until October before it triggered.
So, the answer is they usually do, however there is some STRANGE bug in HOI4 where for whatever reason the airwing doesn't want to assist in the Spanish conflict, unless certain DLC is enabled. Why or how this is been an issue for so long, I don't know for sure (I assume it's too do with large numbers of DLC combinations, but I'm guessing at this point).. What I do know is I'm in the process of re-doing the savegames for this series (since the march update made previous savegames incompatible)... If I come across the same issue again (which means it is still a bug) then I will contact them as a bug report, and on the off chance I get a responsr, I'll share it in some future update. But, if we ignore Spanish civil war, this method of selecting F2 for air, then selecting air wing(s) then assigning them a task (CAP, CAS etc) and then right-click to assign them to an army General works perfectly. So long as the General has a suitable airfield in range, he will juggle them round accordingly.
oh shit Spain Civil War won't trigger in my game...oh wait, turns out that's a random trigger: reloaded last saved game, and now Spain is at war on June the 11th :p
what seems to be in my game is an option to send air volunteers in that menu of selecting units. I wonder if that was the update to the issue for why we couldn't do it earlier?
Haven't look through all the comments so apologies if answered. Do you need the DLC for you to engage your air force and get them experience in the civil war. In short how do you get your air force to engage? AND THANK YOU, for real vids that don't just cater to the lowest common denominator. I hope YT is realizing the value of a true follower is so much great than a parade of 2 min vid watchers. Listen up TH-cam creators like this are saving you from the abyss - reward them, don't punish them!
I have replayed this multiple times. I have no green ball. There is no advancement and there is no tank animation of engagement. Any help? I did use the x command while under Rommel with the appropriate lines drawn.
Spanish Civil War does not come up in my game until somewhere in1937 (and it differs with any reload). If I got it right I cannot load the P7 save game with the latest game update? Is it "game over" for me now?
No there's always a degree of randomness - please continue with the rest of the game. If you watch just so you have a vague idea of what to do when civil war breaks out
I just got to the 29th July and the Spanish civil war hasn't started, yet it does on yours on the 16th? So i let it run, still nothing by October?? Still nothing by January. Fuck it, thats enough for today, i've gone this far through your tutorial today, i'll reload and see what happens tomorrow.
