What You Don't Know About the Wooden Dummy Form: FIRST SECTION
See you soon in Frankfurt, Sigung 🙏🏼
👍👍👍
Thank you.
The best teacher Gary Lam❤
I learned everything from my Sifu.
Bruce Lee's saying in the movie is true! Don't Think! Feel!
He was a smart man.
There is a quote in Tai Chi also😉: "手非手 全身是手" (Hand is not a hand, but all parts of body are hands)
Nicely stated.
👍👍👍
Thanks for watching.
Thank you so much Sigung :) 🐉looking forward to see you in Stuttgart in March together with Sifu Uli. Greetings, Markus
Thank you. Who am I writing to?
@GaryLamWingChunKungFu My Name is Markus I am a Basic Rank student of Sifu Uli Stauner. Right now I'm learning for my Level 1. I'm very interested in the Theories and Concepts of VT in my eyes a masterpiece of human logic. While I was studying I wrote my Bachelor Thesis also about Wing Chun as an universal circular Metastrategy. That was like 15 years ago. But I wanted to learn not only the theoretical but also the practical aspects of Ving Tsun so I was very lucky that I found Sifu Uli and I am very proud that I have the chance to learn from such a skillful Sifu. Sometimes I struggle with some of the movements and unfortunately I found that sometimes I'm a little slower in the learning process than I expected but I'm taking my time and I enjoy learning very much. I almost completed the Wooden Dummy Form and I hope I will get deeper understanding of the Concepts and applications. My main goal is to learn the Dragon Pole Form :) Greetings from Germany Sigung and thank you very much for sharing your knowledge and your deep understanding of our beautyful and truly outstanding Art.
This video is amazing, Sifu. Looking forward to visiting you in 2025!
Thanks. Who am I writing to?

@@superhumansight Happy Chinese New Year, Shaun.
Thanos sifu lamb, hope to visit soon.
Looking forward to seeing you.
The simple, basic use of FOOK,TAN, BONG, and JUM and JUT/PAK as motions that collect, or move through the limbs, as he intercepts each beat with a motion, but doubles them up to hit, although he stayed with the single actions here. He maximizes his one hand to isolate, while saving his other helper. Control is 1/3 third the game in wing chun. 💯💡😁
Well stated. Thanks for watching.
@@GaryLamWingChunKungFuok, good, I meant that you were showing pure collection control here and skipping the hit part on purpose to focus and isolate the motions, and to show how to use more than just arms, with the body bumping and shoulder usage. Knowing that once collected, we bring in the BOOP BOOP. 😁💯
@ Yes. You don't have to strike your opponent to beat him.
i miss you sifu ( CK)
Come by and visit.
Bullshido 😂lol
If he is a bullshido, he cannot be undefeated in the Kung Fu Open Full Contact Tournament of Hong Kong 80s🤣 th-cam.com/video/Ac5KI7DsEpk/w-d-xo.html
@ haha lol 😂 u noob undefeated in UfC ?
The direction of force is very important when you practicing lower bong sao in wooden dummy, and it is not easy also😉
Yes. You must know when and how to use it.
@@GaryLamWingChunKungFu i‘m still learning that. Sometimes I do lower bong sao wrong in wooden dummy form🤣
@@paklee630 That's all part of training.
Wow. That was amazing. When you collect the hands, and use inside pak sao, the bong sao (SAME HAND) takes out the back hand threat. Two actions covered by one hand, in two motions. That's critical, Because if mastered, you can play tricks with that in a lop sao bong sao or chi sao play fight, and then for fighting purposes, that's economizing the motion. Taking out two with one, crucial. So the low bong is a SURPRISE ACTION. 💯💡㊙️
Como siempre videos muy interesantes. Con información muy útil
@ Thanks for watching. Feliz navidad.
@JKDVIPER That was a very astute analysis. Thanks for watching. I hope you had a happy New Year.
This Man, my Sifu show me how Ving Tsun really works. The best choice i made.
Thank you, Ulrich.
Good teachers show you a way
I was lucky that I found a great sifu.
👍👍👍
These videos have all been so useful and so helpful - nothing can replace the in-person training at the school, but I look forward to each and every new share, video, DVD, lecture, seminar and download - and of course I always look forward to the in-person training at the school. Thank you so much for sharing your experience.
Thanks. Looking forward to training with you.
Pole and knives please!
For the Dragon Pole and knives, you'll have come to the school.
May I ask how can I stop it becoming a bad habit when practising against a real person please? I feel if I'm used to the dummy then moving to a real person I will still apply what i know from the dummy.
I don't understand your question.
@GaryLamWingChunKungFu For example in the video, Sifu said your lower palm strike hits the lower part of the dummy as part of the form but when you hit a person it is their head. I feel when against a real person i would still be applying the same positioning as i would on a dummy and would like to know what advice would Sifu give ? Apologies it seems difficult to explain via text.
@@cyprian-o7p I understand what you're saying. The dummy can be misleading if you don't fully understand the movements. A demonstration of the empty wooden dummy form would better illustrate the movements. Stay tuned.
@GaryLamWingChunKungFu Thank you very much!
Thank you Sigung🐉
You got it.
Also in wooden dummy form, the palm strike in this section goes only with a half step, but in real situation it goes with a whole step.
You always have to make allowances for the static nature of the dummy.
@ yes, when my sifu taught me wooden dummy, he said that there is only one rule in wooden dummy training: 人就個樁 (Your body has to adapt the dummy)😉
@@paklee630 Very wise words.
@@GaryLamWingChunKungFu Thank you for these details - very good food for thought - much appreciated

These short lessons are so packed with great teaching and knowledge - I'm watching them over again to get ready for training in-person at the school - thank you for sharing these amazing seminars and thank you for sharing your experience
You got it! Thanks for watching.
Rad share - very fun and creative camera work - thank you for sharing
Thanks for watching. I'm glad you liked it.
@@GaryLamWingChunKungFu The editing is also fantastic - the technique of cutting on the action is very well done. I know it takes a lot of hard work to plan, setup, shoot, edit and share online. Great work. I watch every video very closely, over-and-over. Much appreciated. Thank you very much for sharing.
Excelente. Muchas gracias
Por nada.
@ 1:07 is what its all about 💯 💪 😊😮😊
That's right!
😊
One tip: if you want to control your opponent by these moves instead of breaking, your force has to go inside of your opponent’s arm (the center of the arm)😉
That is what a lot of Wing Chun styles are missing out a lot. Overall I can see some similarities with the arm breaking strategies I have seen in JKD, no surprise though. Thanks for sharing such rarely shown aspects.

Thx u Sifu Lam, now i understand the functions of those kick form. its true, the WC kicking in real application is leg and knee crusher. Really nasty one.
I'm glad you liked it.
Awesome 💯 💪
Thank you. I'm glad you liked it.
@@GaryLamWingChunKungFuyes sir...
Changing is the best thing I've ever done, and also shifting is the key to good changing so we don't lose balance, yesterday i was boxing with my friend, and forgot that I'm really used to wing chun, so he throws double jab, I duck the first jab, then pak the second, and counter with straight wing chun punch, it's like the second section of wooden dummy where we start with pak sau, then he understood that after i pak, he can't really do much because i also countered it, and he from fear throws a left hook, i do my wu sao, he throws right hook, i do tan sau, and uppercut him, then we were laughing because i made a hole movie scene work in real life, because it's about practising the right way, I'm glad we have you Sifu, your videos make so much sense, i didn't shift and change positions and control second hand untill watching your first video where you said it's important to take a note on second hand, so i did it with my friend, it worked, and i left him shocked because i switched from boxing to wing chun, basically mixing styles, and i also started including wu sau as one of the main protecting techniques, i was so proud of myself after that situation, just imagin, pak sau wu sau tan sau against boxing punches, and than using boxing against a boxer and destroying him like that, i believe in you guys, keep practising, i practise both wing chun and peekaboo boxing, and hope to mix them and get into professional fighting
Thanks master
Thank you for watching.
Weez, it’s gotten bigger everytime I watch a new uploaded clip. The shirt stretches a little more each time
One important thing is that you need to make a good shifting in order to do changing moves.
Thanks for your great comments - much appreciated
That's correct.
Dope
I'm gonna guess before watching just to test myself, but besides two elbow in, and more actions, changing and huen SAO have to be the most important aspects of the art. That's not to be cheap about it, as punch eats punch, collection, and control over energy, need to be the focus, but the two elbow in with changing, using more actions IS HOW WE DO IT. 😁💯now I'll check it out n see if I was on the right track. 😂❤1:24 yes, I see. Definitely the way to make the easy position happen automatically. Just by collection and changing, you can have a easy high low, PAK, any technique you like. All because you have the ability to be two different stances quickly. Very important lesson from the most trusted teacher in KUNG FU. 😁💯
Thanks for the comments and the details - very much appreciated
As always, your analysis is spot on. You're a very intelligent martial artist.
Ty Sifu, Please say hello to Ricky for me
@@BradleyLinsk I will.
Once you make contact is it OK to steal his position if you feel the muscles in his arms tensing for the next movement ? I hope I worded this correctly.
Yes. If you sense him getting ready to attack, then you must act.
Thank you for this.
I'm glad you liked it.
