What You Don't Know About the Wooden Dummy Form: FIRST SECTION
Thank you for this.
I'm glad you liked it.
Gary lam is the best I’ve seen. Any ideas on how to defend against proper Muay Thai fighters and sparring ?
The same way. Use your timing. Also, you'll want to get into your opponent's gate so you can stop his kick at his thigh. Don't try to stop his kick at his foot or shin because you'll get hit.
These videos really help my understanding of the form(s), actions and the system - Very grateful for them and for all your other lectures and lessons - Thank you for sharing your experience
You got it. I really appreciate that you find these clips helpful.
Question, Gary, who trained first between Bruce, you and David?
Me.
This was such a great seminar - I brought my notebook and wrote notes as fast as I could, but, of course, there was so much more taught than could be written down. These videos are a fantastic aid to a fantastic seminar. Look forward to the next. Thanks again for sharing the videos and thank you for sharing your experience.
You got it. I'm glad you liked it.
This really is the best school - essentially it's a landscaped park, custom built for Gung Fu training. One thing I noticed right away is the "shooting gallery" under the orange tree - A training ground for Dragon Pole. Lots of targets, looks like a fun challenge, and a pretty good workout. Awesome school and awesome Coach. Can't wait to go back for the next training. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for the kind review. We too tend to think it's the best Wing Chun school.
What a candid look at the best school available 😎👍💯🧠
Thank you. We think so, too.
@GaryLamWingChunKungFu rightly so. 😊🎇💯
Release the dragon pole on DVD/download?! Is this a portense of things to soon come? Please say it is so!
Who knows?
I love the way you explain, I love the way you teach. I could listen to you for hours. Everything makes sense. 🙏
The greatest teacher was my sifu, Wong Shun Leung. Everything I know about teaching, I learned from him.

Thank you, Keith.

One important thing: you need a good body structure and elbow position to take the center line😉
Yes, that's absolutely right.
Very smart comment - much appreciated - thank you for the reminder
I have trouble envisioing this three triangle diamond I can see it with the hands but where are the other 2?
Watch the video closely.
Grandmaster Gary Lam with a lesson on THE LINE. He demonstrated how to COLLECT an action With an action. Wood hand. His TAN SAO open hand spreads his left and takes center. He is open and two handed up the middle. He also shows a cover. BUI SAO threads through his second action. Profound points both of them. He used a right on left inside tan, and his center is open. Now you know his kind of timing. He can pull off all kinds of hits from there. Triples, doubles. Back fists and control chops. He also changed directions and stances. He shifted while taking the outside (SAFETY) what a deep lesson on serious basic fundamentals.” ☺️🙏🧠💯
Glad you liked the video. I always appreciate your first rate analysis.

Every time I think I’ve figured out what’s most important, the best teacher reminds me of a DEEPER POINT.” ☺️💯🙏always relaxed, no need to catch him, chase him. Calm. Timing. Calm, relaxed and timed.” 🙏
I’m glad you found the video helpful.
@@GaryLamWingChunKungFu it is. Because the teacher reminds us of the fundamentals. Sometimes we can forget and get static. Forgetting to take the easy path, and let it happen. Main thing I try to do is master those triple and double actions you teach. To me that’s where it’s at. I work a lot on my FUNG HAO wan jeung and cheung. Gua choy too. I try to keep changing. Hit in both sides of the arm. Control him and control him. 🧠㊙️💯
Timing beats speed 💪🏼
Yes, it does.

This was mind blowing and really good. I'm usually trying to get at 15 degrees or 45. Never really doing 60 or 90.

Is that Sifu Evangelos? Well I don't doubt the skill... but Sifu you do need some diet ;).
Sifu i think you could take our question and answer them in one video, i saw a vdieo when you showed quan sau instead of tan sau, against a side punch (hook punch) and i wonder, is it better to do a wrong quan sau, or just do a tan da instead and save time, i hear a lot of masters say, don't waste time and practise biu sau Quan sau and tan da or even do tan da but replace tan with Wu, because wu provides stronger connections, i still end up blocking with the wrong hand on inside, how do i fix this should i do some drills where my partner throws those hooks and i try to directly push his centerline with tan da, or do i learn to just use correct tan sao, biu sao and quan sau i know you said don't focus on hands, but if you could give an advice and tell me what exactly to use so i don't overthink it i think it sounds great, because if i use only onenor two techniques against particular punches i never overthink it for example i always do pac sau and gaang sau against straight punches thank you for showing them in your videos you know i never end up thinking what should i do never fight shoudl be like that, i always pac and punch, my brother even tells me, you should teach me that😂, but i want a clear understanding on what to not do agains hook punches so I never overthink it, for example at least one or two techniques, that i always can use, because people often say you don't have time but trust me hooks are so easy to notice and block so i need to know what's the best way, soni don't overthink it, and btw thank you for your vidoes, I've made some progress, i finally fight better against other styles, and when other guys try wing chun against me, they end up trapped, Sifu you know what You're doing Great Job, i wish i had moeny to fly away from Russia, along to your country and sign up for your classes, i want to be so good in wing chun, i want to compete in Ufc and beat other figbters, and show that impossible is a delisional word, and it's all from home training, it's hard to do it at home without partner my brother rarely does something at home, and if anyone could add, what exercises solo i could do as well without equipment at home? Sorry Sifu for this long text it's likely you don't like reading this long message and replying, thank you for everything 🙏
You should experiment with all those techniques and decide which one works best for you.
Another great share - another great example of teaching and learning how to use and not how to copy - thank you for sharing your experience
You got it. Glad you liked it.
EXcellent instruction.
Not only the palm strike, but also the step. It goes only half step because there is not enough space to do the whole move by the wooden dummy. Then the kick we call that 回力腳, when someone grabs your arm and wants to pull you to his back. You need to grab his arm back immediately and do this kick. Hence in this move the leg is crossed to simulate this situation😉
Morning teacher. 🙏yes, when it comes to PO PAI hands and stepping, he BONG, he steps (transitions) he double LOP-SAO’s the left peg and kicks low. But as he steps left with BONG in particular, notice the JAK JEUNG or SIDE PAK is on the elbow as he slips under with a palm LIFTING THE HEAD. Because a midsection palm is maybe good as a warning, but in a fight, to control the head/eyes and the direction they face is crucial control. So it’s not just a pak and a palm hit or a pressing palm and palm hit, it’s a CONTROL. Pushing the face back is good self defense in any book. At the end he says to use SIDE PALM when covering his left arm, Gary’s right over the students left. He always has REASONS for details like that. Bonuses. 😎🤙🏻💯🙏🧠that was great!
You have a great understanding of fighting.
@@GaryLamWingChunKungFu To me, if Bruce Lee were alive today he would wanna train at your school. I mean that.” ☺️🤙🏻💯and thank you.”
@@JKDVIPER He never got to learn the best parts of the Wing Chun system.
@@GaryLamWingChunKungFu it’s so true. ☺️💯

I’m glad you liked the video. Thanks for watching.
Thanks Sifu , excellent information always, never ceases to amaze me all the small details that make all the difference
Thanks for watching. Glad you liked it.
Nice one Sifu, btw what would you recommend to combine, against boxing jabs and crosses? I started implementing wing chun against other styles, it's a bit complicated to bridge against these two punches, sometimes they fake jabs, but when they throw actual jab cross, I do my pac sau, and sometimes I block the other hand with elbow or maybe tan sau, what else can i do to effectively block and attack against that jab cross?
Just think forward energy
Don’t chase hands. Rely on your timing. I’ll be covering that in another video.
I know what I think teacher would say, if I’m wrong I apologize. In level 1 we always do this, when he hits, I just hit with a cover. You can take over his position that way by shifting. Fook. Jut. Pak has to be quick. Good to use on the forearm near the MEAT. But then touch the head immediately and abandon it for a helper and even abandon that for another lead. It’s this whole play between beats, where you feel a contact on your arm, and now use it to STUFF HIS ACTION but for just a split second. Let him pass. When they throw those PAP PAP JABS and quick boxing combos. Don’t try to PAK that. Instead, crash and use position and overwhelm him with firepower. Just a couple ideas. 😬👍💯I definitely speak for myself though from memory to be respectful to the coach. Not answering for him or trying too. What it is right, is that a lot of times in Wing Chun a hit is the best block but not as a rule. We still need control. To pull off a perfect pak tan or tak da pak da probably just sends his arms flying unless we use timing and position. 😎🙏💯
@@JKDVIPER Very well stated.
Bare in mind that, it is different when you spar with boxing gloves, because the hands with gloves are bigger. Sometimes these techniques seems like not functioning, but when you knows more on timing and distance, you will find that wing chun can be applied to boxing / kickboxing.
Dope

I love this thank you Sifu Lam

Who knows what the future will bring.
Old scholl Adidas like WSL
So sloppy movement...he has alot of trouble with the body mass and gets jammed up when he receives a punch..this is in no means realistic at all..if this was real he would be overcome with the strikes.
Is that sifu evangelos?
Yes it is.
