Turkey baster is a cheap method. Then there are transfer pumps you can get at the auto store or if you do this very often like we do, then a fluid vacuum extractor works the best but also the most expensive. Trying to keep it simple for those that are not familiar.

Thank you. I removed both bolts on the carburetor (actually, just the bottom/middle one), and then I couldn't tighten it back on. I searched around and the Toro manual says to NOT remove it. What do I do? Does it just not need to be tightened down much? I feel like it tightens for a bit but then briefly gets easier to turn, like it feels stripped.

      Hey Tom,
Which model do you have? If it helps I can set up a Streamyard video to try and assist.

@@sgsmallenginerepair6780I have the Toro 518 ZE. I ended up tightening it as much as possible and it did start (before that I drained all the fuel and oil, replaced both). I ran it for a good half hour after that, although I had to adjust the rich/lean lever. If it was too far forward/right, it would end up shutting off when I really pushed it. I had to take it easy. It sounded like it was sputtering a bit - could that be the spark plug? I was going to swap that next (might need it again this Friday). Thanks for the reply! I don't think I've ever received a reply less than a year after a comment! ha.

@@tommanno6875 I think you are referring to the choke lever when you say rich/lean lever. If you have to run that choke lever halfway in order for the engine to run then the carburetor internally is clogged or extremely restricted. The more you close that choke plate the more you are starving the engine for oxygen that is why it is sputtering. Yes your spark plug will need to be changed since you are causing it to run richer from it being over choked. You will need to remove the carburetor and have it cleaned out. Not sure where you are but if you are in Connecticut I may be able to help out. Replacement carburetors for your model machine are fairly inexpensive and ubiquitous thankfully.

@@sgsmallenginerepair6780 thank you again for the reply! I'm in Illinois but I appreciate the offer. I'll look into cleaning it first and possible replacement as well. Best wishes to you in 2024!
