Thank you Karen, I'm just starting watercolour painting and really struggle with big banks of trees or brambles etc. This has given me some good tips to stop them looking like one dimensional flat 'blobs'
Thank you Paul, so glad you found this tutorial helpful! Good luck with painting landscapes etc...😀
I will definitely try this. It's so beautiful. I love how you create depth in a painting and the way you explain it.

P.S. Congratulations on your article!
Happy birthday to you! I will look out for it on Instagram! Have fun :)
Lovely Karen. Really nice. I employ some of these methods too, the mastery with which you employed them was helpful, and what wonderful yummy results.
Thank you!
Wetting the back of the paper before taping down helps keep the paper wer longer.
Yes, great tip Mary :)
I would draw attention to the backing board for the paper as some more absorbent than others and for best dampness, a plastic/ perspex is best. One teacher showed how to run water over paper under a tap on both sides then it would adhere to the perspex, no tape needed!
Beautiful misty Fall scene. Love it! Thanks for the tips Karen!👍 Very helpful. The damp into damp gives a nice soft fuzzy texture, doesn't it?😊
@@hibernogirl there is a woman demo-ing this on TH-cam. I think she is in Russia. I plan to try this. She also uses a gauze-like wet fabric in back of paper.
Karen how damp do you leave your painting before you use your card to scrape in your grass and stems .Thank you so much for all you help ,I think I'm addicted to your tutorials.. Lol ,lots of love your friend Linda Bailey in Corpus Christi Texas.
Hi Linda, so pleased u are enjoying the tutorials. Check out this tutorial, it may help you with the card technique:th-cam.com/video/9OGcwaQXJNM/w-d-xo.html
B E A U T I F U L W A T E R C O L O R ❤️
Regrettable how quickly things dry in Australia, I've learnt to adapt though.
I sympathise! I don't like painting in watercolour when it's really warm! You could try wetting the back of the painting...check out this video, it really helps:th-cam.com/video/DtI8-cRcUDU/w-d-xo.html
You make it look so easy Karen...I may just have to join in on Patreon as I am new this watercolor and need a path. How do you handle the bleeding through the tape that sometimes happens on the border?
Thank you Dawn so much and for your question. I don't mind if the paint leaks through the tape around the edge, as it's just for presentation. If I like the painting enough I would mount it and have it framed :)
Karen, I've managed to paint your beautiful painting. Just loved doing it following your instructions. I wld like to share it with you for your comments. However, I can't seem to figure out how to do this. I'm a bimbo with technology, sorry. Carole Thompson- I'm a patreon member.
Wonderful Carole! You can share it on my members Facebook page. Scroll down below the video on Patreon and you should be able to find the link. Look forward to seeing it! :)
This is amazing Karen. Again, just two colours, which always surprises me how much you can do with so little. I use these two a lot but never ONLY the two. Could you suggest some good pairs of colours to work with, as I think it’s great for learning how to mix and vary. I tried the tutorial with quinacridone gold and a blue -ultramarine maybe. It taught me a lot about colour mixing, and it was fun. Thank you.
Thanks so much Barbara, greys and yellows are good combinations, as are violets and yellows and blues with browns and orange. It's good to have one colour that can create lots of tonal values :)
Karen Rice Watercolour Channel Thank you Karen .
Really nice effects created with use of sponge, learnt a good technique! Could you please inform if you used 100% cotton watercolor paper, as there was no buckling of paper visible even after adding so much water ?
Thank you so much! I used Winsor & Newton watercolour paper on block so it helps with the paper from buckling. It is 100% cotton :)
Nice
Thanks
👍😊
Can’t wait to try thus. Do you use coarse or fine sea salt?
I use both, they all have fun varying effects :)
Reminds me of the back roads near my parents home in rural northwest Tennessee. It's amusing to me how rural roads have a lot of similarity all across the world. Gorgeous painting.
Thanks Paula! You are so right! I love painting rustic scenes :)
Please explain what a twig is.
Get a pencil size branch outside sharpen one end. It give a thin more natural line to make branches on the paper
If I may, my tip is to use a flat brush to wet your paper, not your round brush. This keeps your nice round brushes from getting more wear and tear than necessary. Plus a flat brush wets the paper so much quicker and very evenly. Happy painting everyone!
Great tip! Thank you Suzette :)
Beautiful
Thank you
