- Super-connected motorcycle helmets with a head up display (aka HUD), with GPS and other information points have been a distant dream until lately, but now, riders can buy the $699 NUVIZ HUD system for their full-face lids and get all the tech goodness they desire. But does it work? And it is safe to have all that information on tap while riding? The answers may surprise you.

This should’ve been fitted on the clutch side so you’re not letting go of the throttle to turn on/off the display.

Pl ox it’s attached to the right side of the helmet. The right side of any motorcycle is the front brake lever.
Just pull the clutch duh.
Axel B so pull the clutch in, as you’re slowing down, and the texting driver behind you can bump into you thinking you’re maintaining the same speed? Sounds like a safe idea.
It’s a real step up.
But until I can get an actual HUD built into my visor I’m not interested in it.
Fighter pilots have that sorta stuff so the technology is possible, just expensive af
I guess it's a good first product, but for me personally it needs the following improvements before I would consider dropping that amount of coin for one.
1. Far too large/bulky. This needs to be, at the minimum, half the size it is.
2. The controls need to be on the clutch side so you don't have to take your hand off the throttle. C'mon man, a first year rider should see this flaw.
3. For the price the speakers and mic shouldn't be just "good enough", they should be near top of the line or this isn't worth the $$.
4. Needs to be modular. It should have the ability to add additional cameras, Bluetooth them into the system, so you can add rear view or 360 view cameras.
Good first run, let's see what they do with a second generation!
@Dongs Exactly why it should be on the clutch side. Not sure what point you're trying to make as I've been using a Bluetooth device on my helmet for about 10yrs now and I lift my left hand and use the buttons all the time. Since it's the clutch side I'm still in complete control of my bike. These are designed to specifically be used while riding, not adjust the settings and don't touch them until you stop.
Just build your own if it's not good enough champ. Sure it's easy.
You can choose to help them develop a better product, one you would love to buy, or you can decide to Troll those who are trying to help.

Wow. There's a lot going on in my helmet, but none of them seem to be about riding safety, but rather more focused on music, talking, looking at gps, and making movies. No thanks.
Would love to see a rear-view camera feed option. For when I'm sat at lights, etc.
It's dope but the company couldn't have just built me a full helmet with same tech feeding through the bottom portion of my visor. I mean for $700 just give me a full lid.

First off the skulls has been bought out and can be purchased now too. It’s also built into helmet not sticking out like giant blob this must weigh a good bit and only weighs down the side it’s on making helmets sit lop sided? And how long has the gen 1 been tested cause everything has flaws in the first couple gens this will be no exception
All I need to be fitted on the helmet is a back camera and airconditioning system. Bluetooth for smart phone too, but entertainment system can spell disaster
better if it have Eye tracking to navigate through the modes
It's a lot of money for a company with no website. Seems the moto HUD business is cursed for the time being.

I doubt that this HUD can be senn at this angel+ jet fighter helmets have an intergrated HUD and it works, so why this module than a helmet with a HUD on the Visor.
Because a device that can be retrofitted to any number of existing helmets is a lot easier to sell than an entirely new helmet with a built in device. Most riders like *their* helmet that they've already invested major money into. It's a pretty big ask to have them not only try a new device, but also give up their existing helmet. Not to mention it's a lot cheaper to make just the device than it is to make the device + helmet, especially since they'd also have to make all the different sizes of helmets and start unnecessarily competing in an already very competitive space.
Battery life?
Problem is the same as the problem cars have. They filter out irrelevant information if they see it for a long time. Now if there would be something important behind that.. Same goes. With glares in windscreems
Is it water resistant?
if your riding in the rain you need a "waterproof" product, water resistance isn't enough if your caught in a downpour.
As for nuviz many online re-sellers claim its waterproof or water resistant, but Nuviz's own websites makes no mention of such a feature, So its buyer beware ATM.
Delete the camera and make it smaller and make it left or right side attachable
Some body just sent this clip to the yamaha xj900s owners club,sayin this would enhance my riding experience,...so would 8 more valves,riding modes,auto blipper,linked servo assisted anti lock brakes,fuel injection,colour LCD display,inteligent adaptive suspesion,dual clutch,power shift,but I'm a BOOMER not a SNOWFLAKE so I don't want all that crap,keep both eyes on the road

I thought I saw a video on TH-cam where a state trooper stopped a motorcyclist having a helmet mounted go pro and said it was illegal to have anything mounted outside the helmet? Or has to be DOT approved?

This device diverts your eyes from the road as well. In fact, this device could distract you for long periods of time, just like texting. These devices are all dangerous even though they are still very cool!

Here in my country (Brazil) it's illegal to wear earbuds or headphones while driving/riding. Not sure about cool, little projected screen, tho.
I ride in heavy traffic everyday having that controller is asking to wipe out. For 700$ I'd suggest a phone that takes voice commands and helmet mic. That's what I use with a UI setup that stands out.
Forget the PIC and CAM feature too. That quality can't beat a GoPro. Just cut the photo out later.
I wouldn’t be surprised if police depts start getting something like this for motor cops to start using actually. Helps with maps & u could see where other cops are at & if the person u are chasing has onstar or whatever they could be tracked & show up on the gps map.

Gimmick products that are a hilarious waste of money. This is just as useless as the skully helmet. Maybe for $100 it may be worth considering to buy for your occasional rider that's not experienced or smart enough to use a phone mount, but I'll stick with my action cam and intercom systen that offers a far better experience.

Rick Malone Tell me then, how is it not a distraction to the rider??? Do you ride a motorcycle in real life, or just a person who thinks that they can ride, just from videos on TH-cam?? A rider needs to concentrate on the road more often than a car. There are dangers on the road that can be a big problem for a rider.
Some of these problems, or outstanding factors can include gravel, road salt, rain weather, dirt, leaves on the road, distracted drivers, "road lizards", aka shreds of Semi rubber tires, animals like deer, or squirrels, or a stray dog or cats crossing the road, just to name a few things that are out in the real world of riding a motorcycle. It is different when a person is in a car. A motorcycle rider needs less distracting things without being distracted.
