I have a 1973 450 sl it's running real ruff with a bad miss and dies out at red lights and a little white smoke comes out from the muffler when I give it some gas ????
Yeah it amazes me how owners and mechanics don't know that these cars shouldn't get modern plugs. I just bought an R129 SL to restore, and when I changed the plugs, yep, Bosch Iridium. Whomever did the last tune up probably thought they were doing the car a favor by putting in expensive new plugs, when in reality it was hurting the performance. Changed them out with standard old-style Bosch copper resistor plugs.
As always another great video about a Benz. One should stay away from platinum plugs in a lot of older machines. It's amazing how many problems these "fancy plugs" can cause. Mainly random fouling, and shorting out to make the loudest bang imaginable!
Platinum plugs in old Benz = bad. I had great luck with copper/Nickle in my W201 with the M103. But my W208 CLK55 loves the laser platinum ngk which turned out to be OE. The 4.3 M113 used bosch as the OE though. 😁.
I always have customers telling me "spark plug technology has changed, iridium plugs are better". I tell them that your car still has a 40 year old ignition system. Bosch or ngk non resistor copper cores only!
Question....what is the name of the black hose goes over the left valve cover (if looking at the engine) and attaches to the air filter housing? I need to replace this hose, but I don't know the name of it. The hose attaches to the breather filter on the inside of the filter housing. Thank you!
I wonder how long a burnout strip one mercs of those would lay? It would have to be epic, especially if one bolted an iron lung to the side of the engine, yea?
This steel frame uni-body SL weighs 3500 lbs | 1587.573 kg. V-8 engine 3839 cc | 234.3 cu in. | 3.8 L. Power 155 BHP (114.08 KW) @ 4750 RPM 196 Ft-Lbs (266 NM) @ 2750 RPM Compression 8.3:1 I wouldn't count on burning to much rubber.
@@IDYLBERRY In addition, I don't know how much better the European version was. US-specifications cars often had compromises to meet smog requirements and use lower octane fuels.
Thank you. Own 2 450SL’s and starting with the very basics on maintaining these two cara. 👍🏻🏎😎🙏🏻✝️🇺🇸

1984 ranger 2.8 ran but sputtered with motor craft platinum. Replaced with NGK copper/Nickle ran awesome!
Ryan is a 1st class presenter. Almost as good as Kent ! :) But really, very , very good
Found this out right after i changed mine to Bosch platinum 2s, dammit!!!
;D

Sound advice!
Do your plugs have to be gapped if purchased new from you?
Yes, they are pre-gapped.
What about iridium spark plugs?
Fantastic
And incidentally or not. All but 1 parts cars I have bought non running had the wrong plugs in it.
I just leased a C300 (W205)- petrol a few weekends ago, though it is a lease is there anything I should watch for on this model?

I bet most so-called mechanics don't know this
