44 YEARS OLD McDonnell Douglas DC-10 landing at LONDON STANSTED AIRPORT!

Project Orbis - Flying Eye Hospital - McDonnell Douglas DC-10-30 (MD-10) N330AU arriving at London Stansted Airport for the first ever visit to England as a part of it's around the world trip.
Aircraft arriving from Dublin, Ireland.
N330AU is Orbis' 3rd generation of flying hospital.
The aircraft was originally built in 1973 for Trans International Airlines (TransAmerica Airlines | N101TV) and in 1984 it was taken over by FedEx (N301FE)
In 2010 the aircraft was withdrawn from use and stored in Victorville.
In 2010 the aircraft was donated to Orbis by FedEx.
It is the 96th DC-10 ever built, aged 44 years old.

I've always loved the DC10 even though people criticise its safety record. The work this charity does is incredible. When they land somewhere they are capable of being totally self-sufficient. Even if they landed in an airport without power they carry in the cargo hold underneath their own generators and they even have ground air conditioning systems which connect via hoses to the aircraft so the staff and patients are in a comfortable environment. The team has members from practically all nationalities and a lot of staff actually have day jobs and volunteer their time to this aircraft. You'll find cabin crew and nurses who work for various airlines in their "day job" and you'll find doctors and surgeons who work at hospitals all around the world when not volunteering. It's an inspiring example of how multiple people together can all donate a little bit of their time to make a big difference and it gives me hope in mankind.
