I feel the same way about a lot of aspects of the game. Even just what mounts people ride, back in the day it felt like most people were on some sort of believable war steed. Naturally some goofiness going on still (especially for gnomes) but it genuinely felt like you were in the world of Warcraft that I grew up with in the RTS games. Now if you jump into retail, you'll see people riding basically anything but a typical mount.
@@mickcraftgaming Even gnomes were less goofy back then, creating real and tangible technological feats with the manufactory capabilities of the dwarves, like the tram, war ships, mechanized robot suits, gun accessories, and more. Now they are literal cyborgs with a dry mechanical sense of humor and no real innovation. They became a bigger joke than goblins.
The game has always had a sort of silliness to it. "I come from the orcs. We eat with spoons and forks. We love to eat our pork." NPCs like Haris Pilton A murloc chef on a pirate ship. You guys are imagining the modern game to be something it isn't. I've played every version of WoW. I can say the game is the most polished now that it has ever been.
That was the most painful change. And the hoof sound when tauren is walking was driving me mad. Luckily I left all games, so it doesn't bother me much more.

Tbh WoW was always considered cartoony. I still like it though, and there's a good technical reason for the cartooniness - helps it look good without being too demanding on hardware.
I like the shorter draw distance and more fog. Blures the zone edges better making world feel more fluid rather than a harsh unnatural mountain randomly poking straight up in the distance.
classic had deeper immersion in terms of the way the camera naturally panned out, but i think retail could be fleshed out with more immersion. esp weather. before classic launch they were gna add a survival profession where you'd need items to travel in the game. night was night, you'd need a special candle to light the way ect. tools for cooking fires, making camp to rest ect. shame they scraped the idea. it would be so much better to add that in terms of interacting with the world rather than afking in the main city for 3 days at a time while in a que
I get why people dislike the new animations, I just think they're wrong. Warcraft has always been this very heightened fantasy, even back during the RTS days. I mean, look at how oversaturated the colour palettes were in everything back in WC3, and the character designs were always super chunky and exaggerated. The new, more over-the-top run cycles fit that aesthetic. As much as you want to treat this game like it is serious shit, it isn't. It's always been a bit silly.
I really don't like giving Blizzard a full games worth of money reach month when they have done no development on it and no classic+, but the visuals are so much better than turtle wow.
The new models and animations are so much better. The art team did a great job of making the models move as though they have weight. The improved animations are really noticeable when kiting as a hunter. I will say that one of my favorite memories is the result of how buggy vanilla animations were. I Aimed Shotted a priest so hard in old-school WSG that he and his undead horse went through the death animation together and then his body slid across the ground until it eventually slid off the map.
Nah the new animations look like mfs are sprinting on a track field, rather than jogging thru terrain with weapons in their hands, ready to engage in combat

I prefer the old animations far more than the "modern cartoon" style of today. Warcraft had a stylized art look back then too, sure. But it was rougher than today. Everytime i see today's graphics i imagine a gnome, a human, and a tauren taking a selfie making funny facea
This is what happens when a company grows to care more about marketing than about immersion and its player base. WoW was created by a group of 40 people in a shabby dysfunctional office where most of them worked hard to make an MMO they'd love to play. Not the case of current (retail) WoW.
Classic world and characters just have that charm no Retail or any other game has been able to substitute, a great mix of fantasy and a sprinkle of ruggedness and realism design, a level of seriousness. Retail versions are something straight out of looney tunes if they were in 3D...it's just goofy as hell and generally doesn't really feel like WoW.
So many classic andys saying WoW was super serious before and not goofy casually forgetting that classic wow isn't a hardcore mmo and is extremely casual and cartoony for it's time
The only one I like better in the new one is the undead animation. I prefer the old ones on all the other, the new ones look ... idk goofy, silly... can't describe it.

Idrc about this whole comparison between Retail and Classic Wow. My only matter is that I'm just Glad im not playing a fucking COD game anymore. I really do enjoy both Retail and Classic as like a sign i came back home from a long hiatus after a terrible experience with COD.
I adored the classic Tauren model. Always felt epic to play a huge, beefy Tauren warrior. Now Taurens move exactly like Goofy from Disney. Looks absolutely retarded imo. Same for Humans and Orcs. Idk why they overemphasize the arm swings so much. I always wonder who approved those models....
Not sure if it's nostalgia that I like the older models more. The gnome is alright in both, not sure if I like the newer nelf but it's alright. Wouldn't mind the Tauren to just look heavy as they run
While I prefer most of the older animations, male trolls I think got a big upgrade. They’re one of the tallest races when they actual stand up straight but they always hunch. The added bounce in their stride makes that lank feel like it’s getting put to use

Played Tauren since 2004, when new animation came, i abandoned that race until today
Night elves, gnomes , and undead are pretty similar to the old but everything else is too bouncy and goofy

Tbh WoW was always considered cartoony. I still like it though, and there's a good technical reason for the cartooniness - helps it look good without being too demanding on hardware.
