Riding a Claustrophobic Elevator Capsule to the top of The Gateway Arch - Futuristic Capsule

  • [4K] Taking a cool futuristic Neon looking capsule up to the Top of the Gateway Arch in St. Louis. Admission is $12 to ride the elevator to the top. It takes 4 minutes for the elevator tram to travel to the top and only 3 minutes to get down.
So if you have a fear of confined space, this tram attraction may not be for you. It's really tight to fit all 5 big guys in the elevator, so it's recommended to ride 2 to a pod.
Even though it's just an elevator tram ride to the top, this feels like an attraction ride that we pay regardless of where it goes.
    Filmed with a GoPro Camera.

Hey. I went in this thing in 1975. And now once you are at the top, you can hear the traction motors run as the tram returns back to the bottom. The cab door in this video is not the original door. In 1966, it was declared to be a futuristic ride due to the way the capsules are shaped. Starting off, it is a rocky ride, then it goes up like a regular elevator. Then as it nears the top, some tilting action is noticed again. That is the leveling system you hear.

The capsules are the same as when I went there in 1978. Then it was just plain white lights. But now they have the changing lighting. Fantastic views if it's a clear day.

Boston-area native here, would love to check this out. I vote for a rule that if you are able to make it to the top and hold it together looking out the windows, you get to meet Ozzie Smith for an autograph when you get back down. Make it happen, St. Louis :)

Wow, I always thought Clark was winding Rusty up in the movie Vacation about the elevator to the top off the arch! 😮😅

Those little cars are tiny, but the lighting is cool. Looks like a really tight fit for 5 adults, though.

I went there back in 2000 with my church youth group from Florida for a Youth Gathering event at what was the TWA Dome and went up into the arch! Try riding in that with 4-5 other people leaned over to look out!

The elevator is a bit unsettling. Also since the elevator is not going straight up it is rocking a bit

There used to be a museum inside of the bottom part and it talked about the history of St Louis and the history of like slaves and things and it was a very very very cool Museum

I was in the Clinton High School Band(MS) back in 87 and we had a marching competition in St. Louis..I had a chance to either go up in the Arch or go to a Cardinals game..I went to the Cardinals game. Years later, after going to the top of the Eiffel Tower...this doesn't look have bad.
