Anbernic getting paid on half-baked products. Custom firmware should enhance and add to the experience, not fix or repair janky devices out of the box. 🤦🏻♂️
Good video, I'm not an Anbernic fan, but you had me at the title alone. bigger screen matters, I would love to see 4+ inch become the standard in retro handhelds. A good review 4/5 beers 🍺
I wonder why they didn't just put some air vent holes in the shell. People complained when the battery is used as a heatsink, they complained when it wasn't and the heat was just left to simmer inside. It's so obvious that you need to at least let the heat escape with some openings at the back/top
Thanks for the video. I currently have the 35XXH and it’s one of my favorites. The 40XXH looks nice but nothing else new is introduced other than the screen and different shape of the device. With that said it doesn’t make sense for me to purchase this. Overall the 3.5 inch screen is just fine, heck I even enjoy micro devices that have 2.8 inch and have no issues. But this could be a good device for someone who needs bigger screens due to perhaps vision issues or it’s their first H700 device and the price difference is not an issue.
I'm so glad to watch a review of this that's under 10 mins. In my opinion that's all time this device needs, Anbernic has a 40XX V coming out right around the corner, Im starting to get really tired of this chipset TBH. Anbernic should release a new 2024 405m plastic version with the newer chip in it. I'm patiently waiting for another gaming phone from anyone with controls built in.
I wish Anbernic would make an RG40XX SP with a 4-inch screen.. I would buy that in a heartbeat. 3.5 inch screens are not pleasurable to play on in my 40s. Maybe it would be ok if I was in my teens or younger.
Good video! It seems Anbernic has been pushing out a lot of handhelds these past few months, so I am curious to see if they can keep on top of their quality control. Hopefully they can also address and correct any battery issues! Some of these handhelds just kind of blur together as there are just tons of them already on the market! Some of them just seem little more than e-waste at this point! 😅
Can't wait for the "V" My old eyes need the larger screen for RPGs, etc. I still keep a Miyoo Mini on hand for everything else, but that thing is terrible for text.
Hi Joey, thanks for this video with your analysis. Personally I really like the RG40XX because: 1) All the roms are scrapped without exception. 2) Everyone can overclock the processor if needed, it's in the menus. (personally I've never had to use this possibility) 3) Compared to an oled screen (I have different models) I don't see the difference 4) more than 30 emulators inside 5) the led effects are nice (and you can also choose OFF)
I've seen a number of reviews covering the RG40XX-H, that number now standing at 3, and everyone with a blue colored shell has had bad overheating issues. Stubbs spent a decent chunk of his review trying to fix it. Oddly, the other colors in the reviews I've seen don't seem to have overheating issues. I have no clue if the blue shell has a borked mold that hurts airflow, or if it's an early production thing, or if it's one of those small sample size things. Any way you look at it, it's concerning. But not for me, because I'm not going to buy one!
Well yeah I mean trimui has bigger screen, but a good chunk of it will be left unused anyway since most retro games are 4:3 aspect ratio? For budget psp it is better, but most games won't really benefit from widescreen
It's hard to justify buying this when: - the RG353P is android (and has linux options), has 3500 mAh battery, more comfortable, also stacked shoulder buttons/triggers and all the buttons (face/shoulder) and triggers are nice and silent. And a 3.5" 4:3 480p looks sharper than has higher pixel density than a 4" 4:3 480p screen. - TrimUI Smart Pro has a 4.96" 16:9 720p screen, 5000 mAh battery, also stacked shoulder buttons/triggers and the buttons are nice and silent.
You were voicing excatly what i was thinking why choose this device if you could rather get a Trimui Smart Pro for the Same Price. Thanks for the video😁👍
I have both and like the buttons and sticks on the 40xx way better..tsp has true analog crappy sticks and smaller buttons with awful L2 R2... And a beautiful large screen... However I like the 40xxh a lot more because the sticks, buttons and d pad are bigger..basically TSP I'll keep for PSP and everything else I'm playing on the 40xxh
Thank you for addressing the elephant in the room. When I saw the RG40XX H, my first thought was, “did they just shrink the TrimUI Smart Pro and just give it another name???” And as an early adopter of the TrimUI Smart Pro, it’s a good feeling to see it getting more love than it initially did on release.
Again with the problem on the sticks huh, if they didn't release devices so quick maybe they could have fixed it by now or use better ones like Retroid but I guess they don't care since the community always finds a way to fix it
Joey is right, between this and the H, this is better, but if you already have the H.. then stay with it. Ooooorrrrrr... switch to the TSP, It's funny to have youtube on an emulator :P
Not good with the 35xx brother and get ready for rg40xxv as well 😂 not joking bro They know what a heat sink is there is one in the cube and they should warn that lipos are different Charge to 80 percent maximum unless using within 24 hrs Never let them die completely Charge slow and never over 5v/2a 🏆👊
I have always said since the 405m came out that this is the best screen that is out for a retro handheld to this day and Ambernic is the only one doing it. This is the size and aspect ratio we need. 16:9 is so pointless for 99% of retro games. On the Trim UI that 16:9 screen is pointless because it can hardly play any good PSP games at full frame rate and you’re going to get big ugly black bars for everything else.
Love the videos! Was hoping to get some recommendations from you guys! I just recently started getting into handheld emulators, but haven't purchased anything yet. The amount of options is so overwhelming. I'm looking for something that can reliably play up to all Nintendo 64 games for $100 or less. I also prefer it to be relatively plug & play and would rather not tinker around with the software and stuff, but I do work in IT so I could if I needed to. Does such a device even exist?! Please let me know your thoughts! Thanks!
Does that include N64? If so, the only option under $100 that reliably plays N64 would be the Retroid Pocket 2S, which also is one of my top recommendations. I wouldn't say it's plug and play though, nothing really is in this hobby.
@@JoeysRetroHandhelds Ah ok awesome. I have heard of the Retroid Pocket 2S and have watched a couple videos on it. I'll probably do some more research on that device. I really appreciate the super fast reply man! Thank you!
This is a great device if you don't already have a handheld for retro systems (which are mostly 4:3 aspect ratio anyway). But I get if that if you already have dozens (like Joey), this one isn't very special. Though I don't know why you'd "review" it in that case. You sound quite negative in this one, Joey, but I think that's more because you already have all the XX devices and want something new (like you said in the video). But I'm not sure if you're the average buyer of these devices; most people will only have one or two, not dozens. And because of that, you've skipped over most of the features of this thing and you assume people will know all the other devices with the same chip. It ended up sounding more like a rant against why Anbernic keeps release devices with a H700 chip instead of actually looking at the device and why someone would want to consider it. Of course, I don't know your audience so I might be completely off. So... do with my comment what you want ;-)
The problem is, you want this review done in a vacuum when that just isn't the case. I can't pretend that every other H700 device and other devices don't exist and you have to understand how much of a waste of time it is to copy/paste a review when you've done it seven times already before. This device has the same performance as every other H700, it has basically the same dpad, the same buttons, it has the same stick issues, it has the same operating system. It's the same as every other release, but with a half inch bigger screen size. You tell me what value it brings to do an entire review showcasing all of that, which has been done many times before, when not a single thing has changed. It has nothing to do with how many devices I own, it has everything to do with how many devices Anbernic has put out that are the exact same. If people want to be shilled for every new release, where the creator tries their hardest to be enthusiastic about a device that doesn't do anything new, this isn't that channel and never will be. This is how I like to do my reviews and will always do them this way.
In fact i believe a lot of us have dozens of handhelds already. Its quite like an addiction, and manufacturers do know that. I have bought almost all important devices, thanks to joey's, russ', adam, techdweeb's reviews.
