I can't seem to find this info so I figure I may as well ask the master. Is there a way to switch my y and x axis on lightburn? How my lm3 with extension kit is physically set up it feels more intuitive to have the long axis be left and right instead of up and down, but it doesn't seem to work if I just put the 'x axis' as the longer one. It works on the screen but doesn't transfer to the lm3. I hope I'm explaining my problem right.
Hey Rich, thank you for this awesome video! Actually I am using exactly this setup for a few weeks now (Diode Laser on a RPI 3B+ via USB and Virtualhere, Transmission of laser and webcam usb signal to Windows PC via local WIFI). I have also tested usbIP which works directly in Linux, but that does not run smoothly on windows. For Vectors and cutting, it works like a charm. But the problem I have encountered with this setup, is that when engraving images, my diode laser get's stuck after a while or starts stuttering, such as the signal would stop or needed to buffer (although I have stable wifi, tested the connection, even used extra big wifi antenna on the RPI). Have you experienced the same or similar (or anyone else here)? Would you have any idea what this could be?
I don't have a pi hooked up, but I have run about a dozen jobs so far including 2 images for testing and they have all worked flawlessly. I also know other people with the same setup and no complaints.
Will this work with an easycad2/3 fiber laser? I'm going to assume so, usb is usb, we have a tight workbench area, and if we could move the laptop that'll be awesome and then use a raspberrypi on the fiber this will be amazing
I was an idiot and did not read far enough!! - The trial edition is restricted to sharing one device at a time. - ORIGINAL POST START HERE-Looks like it's $49 for a license for the server after the 30 day trial. Cheap enough to make life easier without breaking the bank :)
Hmm... I've had it on my Linux box since V 2.6, or about 6 or 7 years now and haven't paid anything. The license is if you need more than one USB port, as well as all of the paid features of the server. To run one USB, it's free to use.
Hi Louisiana, can you give me an advice? I have an xtool d1 10 and want to buy a Co2 laser. Which one you recommend. The Gweike cloud pro or the Omtech polar?
Rich I used your link to order a Atzer laser on November 22nd 2022 and have not received a shipment confirmation yet. Should I be concerned? Jeff Fiedler
Much easier and cheaper to use any old notebook and Anydesk software to reach it from anywhere. Make a project in Lightburn at home, save it, pull the file to the notebook next to laser, open there and burn. And notebook's webcam from the lid can be used to control visually.
Hey Rich love your videos but Why would someone want to control a laser far from the emergency stop button, makes no sense to use a laser remotely, I’m i missing something, this looks like a disaster waiting to happen!
For many reasons. HVAC being #1. Like I said in the video, never leave the laser unattended without using a camera. The stop button on the laser tab is the same thing as an e-stop.
Does it make any difference if you were to swap which computers were the server and the client? Does the computer your laser is connected to have to be server?
I don't think "ANY OLD DEVICE" is correct. In fact, it is misleading. I have an old laptop with Windows 7 (it won't run Windows 10 or 11) . The VirtualHere web site says the server requires windows 10 (or later). I was hoping to run the server on the old laptop as it certainly seems like it would qualify as "ANY OLD DEVICE", but that idea is no longer achievable.

Hi Rich, is the D1 pro 20w laser capable of using this software to connect via wifi? I ask because everything I have searched and everyone I have talked to tells me that it's not possible to connect to lightburn via wifi with the xtool d1 pro. Is that accurate information or is it possible with this software
Hey Rich...I also have a D1Pro 20w Extended Bed and I have run VirtualHere and found on my D1pro I get an error on almost every time I use it that says my controller has lost the USB connection and it shuts the job down. I had been running a 20 ft USB cable so I switched to a "known good" 6 ft connected directly to my Raspberry Pi4B that runs VirtualHere. Same situation. Just wondering if anyone else is seeing this sort of issue with Xtool D1 Pro? You are 100% correct that it is the easiest thing I've done to ADD Wifi to my laser, now I just have to figure out how to make it stay connected. Switching cables doesn't seem to be the answer, also disabled all the power options on my PC with Lightburn to prevent any communications issues after long periods of burning files etc. Still no luck.@@TheLouisianaHobbyGuy
@@TheLouisianaHobbyGuy Not sure about everyone, maybe in this world.
Yes, but I can't explain it in a YT comment. Try posting on my free forums. lahobbyguy.com/bb
Yes it will Samuel.
Yah thanks for that Rich, That is going to be great for my 2nd laser. Like the new look glasses
You bet Ian. Thanks!
@@TheLouisianaHobbyGuy Well holy cow then it is definitely not breaking the bank :)
Do I need to have Lightburn on the computer that is in the shop with the laser or just the one I am using remotely?
Just the remote computer Gary. The one in the shop is just being used as a pass through for the USB connection.
Hi Louisiana, can you give me an advice? I have an xtool d1 10 and want to buy a Co2 laser. Which one you recommend. The Gweike cloud pro or the Omtech polar?
I'm not familiar with either Milushka.
Off topic but will you be reviewing the Atzer V-35?
Do you mean the Atezr V-35? Mind the spelling of the company's name! Search engines dislike misspellings.
Yes, as soon as I receive it.
Rich
I used your link to order a Atzer laser on November 22nd 2022 and have not received a shipment confirmation yet. Should I be concerned?
Jeff Fiedler
Nope... The PRC has had the country in rolling lock-downs until the WHO reported it last week. Most of the factories are far behind. Email them Jeff.
Thanks
Much easier and cheaper to use any old notebook and Anydesk software to reach it from anywhere. Make a project in Lightburn at home, save it, pull the file to the notebook next to laser, open there and burn. And notebook's webcam from the lid can be used to control visually.
Oh yeah, that's way easier and cheaper than selecting connect on free software and opening lightburn...😆😆
@Ron Staton Ah, I always forget, that you pay for software.
I can think of a dozen other ways to do it, but none of them are easier or cheaper. We'll have to agree to disagree!
Can you run the server on a PC laptop and the client on a mac laptop?
I don't know Daniel, I don't use Apple products. I would guess so.
Does it make any difference if you were to swap which computers were the server and the client? Does the computer your laser is connected to have to be server?
Yes, the server serves the USB port for the laser to the client.
Great solution. But for me, I currently using Google Remote Desktop to control my laser engraver removing.😊
Great 👍 I've used that as well as several other options. Remote desktop _(built into Windows)_ is the best.
To me, any old device is running Windows 10 James. I mean it's 7 years old already. I wasn't trying to imply you could run it on a IBM 5150 from 1975.
@@TheLouisianaHobbyGuy I'm 78 and a long retired software engineer when Windows XP was the Windows Dejour. USB was just coming into vogue back then when keyboards and mice still had cords.
My old Windows 7 laptop is still used to run my Shark CNC. The CNC and my brand new XTool D1 Pro share the same table with the old laptop and when I saw this video I about jumped with joyful anticipation. Though I won't be able to use the Old laptop, the idea is still sound. I'm now looking at an $80 Dell 3189 with Win 11 on ebay.
BTW, your videos on Lightburn are superb and your explanations are clear and easy to follow. Thank you. Do you have a video on how to set up a camera? You use a camera quite a bit in the videos, but I haven't found a video that explains what kind of camera and how to set it up.
Yes, I have several.
I tried virtualhere a while back but I couldn't use it successfully. It connected just fine, but I found it was dropping network packets occasionally and only sending parts of the gcode commands.
Well I've run over a dozen jobs on it so far with no issues. USB by its nature drops packets.
Is there away to get what I make on one computer with lightburn and have it come up on a second computer with lightburn?
There are several ways Terry. Networking is one, a NAS is another, or the most basic of all, a simple flash drive.
@@TheLouisianaHobbyGuy I've been using bluetooth but having to run up and down stairs sucks. Be nice if Lightburn could have where lightburn automatically would update to all comps.
Use remote desktop:
learn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-server/remote/remote-desktop-services/clients/remote-desktop-allow-access
@@TheLouisianaHobbyGuy Sucks getting old. I use to use remote desktop many years ago and never thought about it for this. Thanks much!!
Will this work with smoothieware?
Yep!
Hey Rich, Just want to say thanks for all your great videos. I just got an Atomstack 10 Pro and new to lasers. My biggest challenge is learning Lightburn but your videos have made that much easier so thank you. I do also have a X Carve CNC running Easel. In one of your videos you mentioned you ran a CNC off of Lightburn, have you posted anything on how that works? And if so would you recommend that over using Easel? Just thinking it would be nice to run both machines with the same software. Even if you dont get a chance to reply still want to thank you again for the stuff you are doing. Promise you will hear back from me once I know how PayPal works or you post a P.O. Box address.
I only use Lightburn on the CNC for engravings. It doesn't control the Z.
I cannot find the server for 32bit windows. I see the client for 32bit. Am i missing something?
I couldn't find it either Dustan.
Hi Rich, is the D1 pro 20w laser capable of using this software to connect via wifi? I ask because everything I have searched and everyone I have talked to tells me that it's not possible to connect to lightburn via wifi with the xtool d1 pro. Is that accurate information or is it possible with this software
Any machine can connect this way Johnathan.
Windows 10 and newer ONLY - too bad, I've got stacks of older computers that would do just fine otherwise.
I think everyone does Andrew.
@@TheLouisianaHobbyGuy Not sure about everyone, maybe in this world. Anyway I still keep the term "backward compatibility" in my vocabulary - something today's programmers seem to ignore if they ever had it. I remember waaaay back when I had a friend who owned a small manufacturing firm. They repurposed Vic-20's to control some of their processes. Even then the Vic-20 was a dinosaur.
On another note, I got curious - adding on another Lightburn license is only $15 and it will run on a Win 7 machine. Worse comes to worse I could also install Linux and run one of my old boxes that way - at least in theory. Linux and I have a bit of a love/hate relationship. There's a lot of stuff I know it can do but I can't always seem to coax it to do my bidding.
I guess I have to pay the $49 for the license to continue to use this software. The client is free but the server has a charge. I'm I right??
No Carl, the only limitation on the free version is a restriction to one device. If you only use it on one device, it's free. I've been using it for over a year on a printer.
Love your glasses, hahaha
Thanks Ricardo!😅
Dang no raspberry pi option...
There are SIX versions for the pi. Look on the download page.
@The Louisiana Hobby Guy ok it wasn't in the video so I will go look. I would love to be able to run all the machines I have on pi systems.
😂😅
Well I'll take it.
🎅 Thank you. LoL
Ill use $30 Intel stick
cool nice option to easy the job 👍
You could use an old phone that runs Android as well with an adapter!
