    Just a suggestion: I make hot cocoa bombs and I find it easier to cut around each silicone mold so they are free standing. It makes it easier to manipulate to take them out of the mold. Maybe it can work for this as well.

    I’ve been wondering if you could do this for a while and your video is the only video I have found in it.

      I’m glad you found me! Buttercream is my primary medium that I use when cake decorating so I’m always trying new techniques for applying it on cakes.

    Just a suggestion - Try brushing on a light layer of shorting instead of corn starch. That's is how it's done when using gum paste in molds.

      Thanks! I did it on the first batch but not on the second batch. They seemed to come out the same for me so I realized that with buttercream, you could skip the cornstarch step and still have the same results.
      If I ever use them with gum paste I’ll definitely try the cornstarch again.

    Would I be able to do this with royal icing, take it out of the mould after frozen and let it dry to harden? Or would it just turn to mush as it defrosts?

    • @IcingOnTopBeckysCakes
      @IcingOnTopBeckysCakes  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’ve never tried it with royal icing. I know that regular buttercream keeps its shape as it defrosts.

      I don't think royal icing will even freeze in the freezer, rather put it out in the open in a cool, breezy place. All the same, mine crumbled in the end, might be a consistency issue

    When it thaws does it keep the details? Have you tried using it for decorating the sides of a cake?

    • @IcingOnTopBeckysCakes
      @IcingOnTopBeckysCakes  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, it keeps the details. Here’s a tutorial of using a silicone mold on the side of the cake.

    I've watched a Wilton video using their Decorator Icing, which is Buttercream, in Fondant molds. Those molds are not quite as deep as the snowflake mold used in this video. I wonder if using a 'thinner' mold would work better? And in the Wilton video, they only freeze for 40 minutes.

    • @IcingOnTopBeckysCakes
      @IcingOnTopBeckysCakes  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That would be fun to play around with. Probably the depth would depend on how long you would want to freeze it for.

    Could I make these a couple days in advance for cupcakes?

    • @IcingOnTopBeckysCakes
      @IcingOnTopBeckysCakes  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes, just make sure you freeze them in a well sealed container

    This might be a little *too*extra, but would it possible to use a bit of unfrozen frosting to glue the broken pieces back together then refreeze again to make them solid pieces before placing them in their final spots?

      Yes, just make sure that they’re frozen solid before popping them out.

    Could I use powdered sugar instead of corn starch?

    • @IcingOnTopBeckysCakes
      @IcingOnTopBeckysCakes  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, that would work. I’ve even tried without any powder and they still come out but sometimes a few details are lost.

      @@IcingOnTopBeckysCakes im attempting to make a lego themed cake for my husband's birthday and I just don't want the colors to end up muted because of the corn starch or powdered sugar

      @IcingOnTopBeckysCakes  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@mysteriouswolf1995 I haven’t tried it with Legos yet. I’m not sure if the little dots on top would come out well. If they don’t, you could also try piping the dots on top with a round piping tip. The rectangles themselves should come out well.

      No. If you use a firm buttercream it will keep its shape. Any firm buttercream will do but here’s my recipe if you want it th-cam.com/video/aiutyacPm6k/w-d-xo.html

    Have you ever tried using a cookie sheet with hot water to loosen them from the mould? Kurt a few seconds and I think they’d release easier. Maybe without breaking? You “hack” is absolutely brilliant though! I’m going to try it. I’ve been making cupcakes with buttercream frosting for my twin grand babies. They 1m and 1f are almost 4 now. I enjoy seeing their faces when nannie drops in with some flavoured cupcakes. With heaps of frosting. Then again just sprinkles amaze them. 😂 Oh, and of course everything is homemade too. None of that pre boxed junk for my grand babies! 😂 yes, nannie and poppy spoil them rotten! After they start their sugar high and are bouncing off the walls. I grin at my daughter as I hand them both the giant lollipops on the sticks as we leave to go home to our nice QUIET house! 😈😈 It’s just a little payback for when my daughter was 15 going on 25, and the attitude that came with her! 🤔😈😈😈😈 KARMIC JUSTICE!!! Muhhaaa!

      Hilarious 😂 And my mom does the same thing to my kiddos when she visits 😆
      I have not tried the cookie sheet with hot water. Definitely willing to give it a try to make them pop out easier!
