    Summary:
In order to transmit information wirelessly, cell phones rely on the microwave part of the electromagnetic spectrum.
There are 2 ways to study the health effects of microwaves: experiments in the lab and experiments in humans. A key step in the development of cancer is damage to our DNA. From a pure physics perspective, microwaves are too weak to break the bonds between DNA molecules. So it is very unlikely that microwaves could trigger the development of cancer.
When it comes to experiments in humans, it would be unethical to expose people to large amounts of microwave radiation. So we cannot answer this question directly. Instead scientists have used indirect methods to study the effect of mobile phones on our health. One type of indirect study is called a case-control study. These studies are difficult to interpret because they rely on people's memories of what they have done years ago. Still, case control studies have not shown a consistent relationship between mobile phones and brain tumors.
Another type of study looks at the population from a birds eye view. We know that there has been massive adoption of mobile phones over the last 20 years. If mobile phones do cause cancer, then we should see a dramatic increase in the number of people being diagnosed with brain tumors. Studies have shows that even with a follow up period of 15 years, there hasn't been a significant increase in brain tumor rates.
A key safety mechanism that helps protect us is that there are strict international limits on the amount of microwaves that a mobile phone is allowed to emit. In normal use mobile phones only emit about 35% of this limit. But in an elevator, the amount of radiation can increase substantially.
In an elevator, the signal from a mobile phone is block by the metal construction of the elevator, the thick concrete that makes up the elevator shaft, and all the concrete and steel ros in the main building. To compensate for this, a mobile phone increases the power of the microwaves in a desperate attempt to maintain a connection to the base station. Also, the elevator is a big metal box. So there microwaves can be reflected off the walls and become trapped.
Computer simulations of this kind of situation shows that the maximum amount of radiation emitted by a mobile phone could exceed the safety limit by 3.8%. This is not enough radiation to fry your brain, but it is stil more radiation than you need to be exposed to.
So overall, it is a good idea not to use your cell phone in an elevator.

Are you worried about radiation from mobile phones? Or are you reassured by the studies that have been done so far. Let me know what you think!
Also, while I was developing the animations for this video, I saw a video from Kurzgesagt on Electromagnetic pollution in my sub feed. You can check that one out at th-cam.com/video/FfgT6zx4k3Q/w-d-xo.html

Really good content, subbed after watching the "Does Protein Powder Work?" video! Here is a thought for improvement.
In your protein powder video, you gave direct statistics from the meta analysis you referenced, which I personally loved as I did not have to go look at the study myself. In this video, and im only in so far as the rats and mice exposed to microwave radiation while typing this, no direct statistics were given this time around.
I think it would be cool to reference the statistics directly from the studies you find, saving the viewer some time. Obviously this is coming from a lazier side of me, but I believe having a video that lays out all information before the viewer not only looks better, but would set your videos apart from the others in your sector as you dont just cite your sources, you give the info right to the consumer.
For me personally, when it comes to educational videos, the more detail the better :)
    Edit: poor grammar

Another great video full of good information! I just have some things to point out/add:
    - Regarding power emitted by the cell-phone, old cell phones would emit a maximum power of 2W (500 times less than the 1kW of the microwave oven as you said) but today, generally, phones have a maximum transmitted power of about 23 dBm (~0.2W) so they are even safer.
    - Other detail is that these limits for radiation exposure are set by ICNIRP (as you touched in another video), and these are defined with a good safety margin so even if for a moment you could be exposed to a level higher than the imposed limit it would still be safe.
    - As you said, and well, phones do not emit the maximum power all the time, only in low coverage conditions. This is due to power control present in the communications systems, used both in the stations and on the cell phone. Another fact that most people are not aware of is that the mobile phone is not radiating most of the time, only when it is sending information, like a message or on a call. Even in a call, the transmission is made in time slots so the phone is "quiet" half of the time.
    - Regarding the elevator, although reflections occur, these may not cause extra exposure. This is because electromagnetic waves reaching our heads, from the reflections, can be considered vectors, with a respective magnitude and phase. If these waves are out of phase they cancel out and thus exposure is lower. For example, this is a big problem in radio/microwave links (of some kilometres) where the ground is smooth near the antennas and reflection occurs, causing destructive interference and consequently drops in signal quality. I think the main issue with the elevator is as, you said, the cell phone upping the transmission power trying to reach the cell tower.
Sorry for the long text! Keep up the awesome work!!
Edited: As I have seen comments about 5G, I may as well write a little about it:
    - 5G is a similar technology to 4G, the air interface is almost the same (which did not happen in previous generations).
    - In a first instance, for example in Portugal where I live, the frequencies bands used are going to be 700 MHz and 3.5 GHz. To put into perspective - 2G, 3G, and 4G utilize frequency bands from 800 MHz and 2.6 GHz. So not a big change in frequencies as people think. What people think when they hear 5G is millimetre-waves ( which is above 30 GHz). These waves are already in use for satellites and radars so are not a new thing (people are just hearing about it and say all sorts of things).
    - Regarding exposure, 5G is not a new "electromagnetic technology" that needs to be studied as people often think. The exposures set by ICNIRP (which can be seen in their site) include all the EM spectrum until ultra-violet, so it is a matter of "what frequency is being used" as opposed to "which generation are we talking about". And also one thing that people do not know is that (which can be seen in ICNIRP too) the amount of radiation that a person can be exposed without going over the limit is higher for higher frequencies (between 400 MHz and 300 GHz).
Again sorry for the long text ahah but for those who made it till here I hope I shed some light about EM waves and 5G.

In a subway, the signals bounce to and fro, as people even have their cell phones on! And for sure it effects the electrons of the hydrogen (and oxygen) molecules in your brain! The smaller the particle...haven't you witnessed a helium balloon? .The air is more heavy than helium! But the microwave energy is an even smaller particle size. The energy effects the particles that you call you, especially the brain! In my first classes of physics, chemistry and biology well, that is enough for now! By the way, all my computers are wired, going to a plugged-in router and plugged-in modem. But I am disabled in a wheelchair. I just didn't know! I had early cell phones, one after another, like a 2nd generation cell phone, an AOL Flip Phone!

I had a hemorrhagic stroke, 11 years ago (actually it will be 11 years on April 30th, 2010) of disability for me. Do you recall a Spaulding Ball? It was pink and filled with air. And my house was brick. If you bounced it a thousand times, at high speed, (as a controlled experiment) you would see some brick-dust. If you had a machine that bounced a billiard ball, it would become apparent that as the ball wore out, so would the wall. Now, microwaves, are very small, like ultra-miniature billiard balls. But bouncing at your brain, well, enough said! There are oxygen molecules, hydrogen molecules in your brain. That quick bouncing movement evidently affects you, your brain. Sure it is not radioactive! But that ultra high speed of the sound converted to whatever, as it goes very high speed to a cell tower, also goes to the brain, your brain! Like if someone, like in a subway, is talking or even has the cell phone turned on, it is toxic. If you use it, eventually there will be some repercussions to your brain!

Hi Duy, great to hear from you again! There are no detrimental effects on food that is heated in a microwave. The heat produced by microwave cooks food slightly differently than conventional cooking, but the food is still safe. No toxic chemicals produced. But be aware that some containers (eg some types of plastic) are not microwave safe. Some types of plastic molecules can break down when exposed to high amounts of heat. @@josephscott6642 Do you wanna know what has more energy than Microwave radiation? Fucking visible light, red visible light has a wavelength of about 650-700 nanometers, the strongest Microwaves have a wavelength of about 1,000,000 nanometers. What about blue light? Blue light is between 450-500 nanometers. Im not gonna say what these numbers mean because I want to see if you understand how the electromagnetic spectrum works but if you do know how it works, this should be very very very easy for you to see how little microwaves affect you

If you use a headset while on the phone speaking to someone in an open space, will your brain still receive radiation?

You need to update yourself, mister. Who is paying you for lying to the public? Makes my stomach turn listing to your ignorance.
There are 1000 of peer-view studies and NTP said it very clear. You are twisting the truth. FCC has been taken to court and you should dig deep down in your conscience to see if you find some decent human being..

i slept with my phone last night, and i am at my grandpa's, so the reception here is really weak, i woke up maybe 1.5hrs or 2hrs later, and turned airplane mode on, does that mean that my DNA is broken?😂🥲
