Hi Tony - We are going to Madrid and Barcelona the last two weeks of June 2024. Currently yours is the best TH-cam channel I have found for practical information for travelers to Spain. Stay with it! Unfortunately I have found little to no practical guidance on getting to castles specifically. Yes we will go to Segovia but everything else it seems is quite out of the way and no within striking distance of Madrid except one day each and maybe some only by bus. Any thoughts? Would really like a video on castles alone. Including of course those that the public can spend a night in. Thanks much
@@ROADTRIPSpainandPortugalTony - We have reviewed your video #147 Paradores. Unfortunately I think arranging a third location to overnight and the transportation is just too complicated for our first trip to Spain (14 days Madrid-Barcelona). We will look at a day trip to Mazanares el Real as a combo for the castle tour and a bit of hiking. So that's it for me - only two castles. I am surprised at the lack of castle visiting TH-cams. Spain certainly has its share and one would think this would be a big attraction. Your helpful tips on how to get to places and self guided tour info (like your #110 Monserrat) would certainly be appreciated for castles either grouped or individually. A further suggestion for a TH-cam is all the day to day things tourists needs besides lodging and food: groceries; pharmacies; medical clinics if needed; toiletries; and public laundries for long stays in a hotel. I think you do a good job of explanation based on your train travel tips etc
@@stevemarquis7704 we've visited awesome Castillo de Loarre in our road trip around the Pyrenees. The Castillo de San Jose on our road trip around Lanzarote. Shown the spectacular Alcázar in our video on Segovia. The Alcázar de los Reyes Cristianos in Córdoba. The Real Alcázar in Seville. Montjuïc Castle in Barcelona. And probably a few more I can't recall right now. Thanks for your helpful suggestions.
Tony - you're amazing! Thank you for all the tips and we will be in Portugal in Nov 27 to Dec 7 2024 - so excited and thank you for all the wonderful videos! Obrigada!
Hi Tony . your videos are very infirmative- thank you . I know you are a Zaracoza Expert. We are travelling from. Madrid to Barcelona but would like to stop at Zaragoza for early lunch and a nice walk around. Unfirtunately cant stay overnight. Where can we store baggage for a few hours ? Is there any Luggage storage at the Zaragosa Delicias station?
Thanks for your helpful videos. I’d like to buy a gold cross when I visit Barcelona in June. I’d prefer to support a local, small business or artist. Any suggestions?
Congratulations Tony on your channel. Honestly it’s the most informative, interesting, entertaining and joyful channel and I always enjoy seeing your passion for sharing your knowledge. Tony I especially love seeing your pencil holder next to your computer. I’m from Australia. Quick question please as I’m not sure of the best option. I’m going to Benidorm (Alicante) in May from Australia. I have the option of flying in to MAD or BCN. I don’t necessarily need to enter either city so I’m looking at travelling to Alicante from either airport. In your opinion which airport has the best links to Alicante? I’ve searched and to be honest it seems like for like in regards to distance. I’m looking for easy. Thanks Tony and if you ever venture to Australia please shout out, happy to host. Kind regards.
Hi Alby, your kind words made our day. Question duly noted for the next Q&A video (advance reply, Madrid airport might have an edge over Barcelona in terms of travel time). All the very best to you and thanks for your kind invite regarding 🇦🇺!
I watched as many of your very helpful videos as I could find before my trip to Madrid and they were so helpful…especially as I am over 70 and was travelling alone for the first time to Madrid . Your video on how to get from the airport to the centre of Madrid did so much to allay my anxieties. However, I didn’t come across a video where it explained how to get back to terminal 4s. All the taxis have to drop you off at terminal 4, from where you need to get the shuttle train to terminal 4s. But it was very confusing as once at terminal 4, there was no visible information how to get to terminal 4S …ie, that you have to go through security at terminal 4… BEFORE you proceed downstairs to the shuttle train for the journey to terminal 4. If this has already been covered in an earlier visit, then I had missed it so apologies for raising this question. But I can’t thank you enough for your helpful videos…..unfortunately I didn’t see Madrid at its best, as it was raining for the three days in Madrid…except for the two days I had booked for my trips to Segovia and Toledo…which were very sunny days in Madrid. I loved the Naval Museum and the wonderful Archeological museum…..where I needed more time. Thankyou
Hello Tony. My sisters and I are planning to go to Barcelona and Madrid then to Lisbon this year. My concern is that we will be arriving on October 5, which is Saturday, and we are wondering if there are tours available on weekends, also are the restaurants and stores open as well. For now, we intend to stay in Barcelona for 5 days, 4 days Madrid and the rest in Lisbon before returning to Florida on the 18th. Thank you very much.
Absolutely love your channel and all the great information! I'm going to Madrid in December and am staying near Tres Cantos station. So I am planning on getting the Tourist T2 7-day ticket. Apparently you can use this ticket to get to Toledo (It says you can do this by urban bus). What I'm missing is how exactly to accomplish this - where to get the bus, do you have to get a ticket ahead of time, and what bus to take. About how long would it take to make this trip? Appreciate your assistance.
Dear Tony, you are incredibly helpful and I am absolutely loving your channel. May I please ask a question. I will be in Barcelona in May and would like to visit several places around Tossa de Mar, places such as (Jardí Botànic Tropical Paratge Pinya de Rosa, Jardí Botànic Marimurtra (also close to Castell de Sant Joan | Blanes), Gardens of Saint Clotilde, Castell de Santa Florentina, Castell d'en Plaja, Mirador de Tossa de Mar, Muralles de la Vila Vella (tossa de mar) Castillo de Tossa de Mar, Jardíns de Cap Roig (Castell de Cap Roig)). Many of these places are a bit far from one another but seem to be in relatively drivable distance. I was thinking of renting a car for the day from Barcelona, and possibly picking 2-4 of these spots and driving from one to the other. Because if I just take a bus to the Tossa de Mar region, how would you recommend to then get from place to place without a car. What would be your general recommendation to see several of those spots? Thank you so kindly for all of your help, attention, and guidance. You are the best travel channel!
Hola, a question about suitcases and train travel in Spain that we have booked for October this year. We have tickets from Seville to Madrid with Iryo which connects to a further train from Madrid to Barcelona with Ouigo. The Ouigo ticket shows we can have 2 x "extra luggage" that can be A+B+C = 200cm max and the Iryo ticket states luggage in the "special compartment" height 70cm x width 55cm x depth 35cm. Our existing suitcases are 70cm height, but is 76cm if including the wheels at the bottom (the width is 46 and depth 33). The question is, how "strict" are Iryo (and other companies) about the sizes of the suitcases, and is the size for the "body" of the suitcase, or including the wheels (I tried contacting Iryo but no reply). PS: where is the "special compartment" on the Iryo carriages. Thanks in advance (your channel/vidoes have made our planned trip much easier - looking forward to eating at your recommended restaurants !!!)
Hello there, our next Q&A session airs today so to prevent you from waiting a whole month, we're going to reply to your question here. We have never seen Iryo employees checking the size of the pieces of luggage. The special compartment is a tiny luggage rack on both ends of the carriage, we show it here th-cam.com/video/t83SR1tkILM/w-d-xo.html All the best!
Hello Tony. ✌️♥️☀️🇨🇦 Do we rent our car, leaving Barcelona on our last day? (heading to Tarragona, Valencia, Zaragoza ((let's meet for favorite tapas)) then days in wine country of Rioja region heading to Bilbao.......to then drop our rental off. What mistakes are we making? Should we choose train travel until Zaragoza? ( I am quite interested in what's to offer along the coastline between Tarragona & Valencia. Thank you very sincerely for you and your wife's hard work in creating the videos. You have helped us VERY VERY much. 💝
Hi Lisa, as we've already recorded the next QA session (airing on Sunday) we'll reply to your question here so you don't have to wait for two more months for a reply. Rent the car the moment you leave Zaragoza. Travel from Valencia to Zaragoza by bus. Haven't got any content on the cost between Tarragona and Valencia, but do not miss Peñíscola.
