I’d take someone who’s trending upwards, and has a history of success when it matters, like Zambrano, before Norman. Or people who are still in their prime who have a proven track record of success in the past, like Gardiner or Kirani James. All that said, Norman has the potential to achieve it, but he’s far from the favourite.

@@Elliottklassen kirani james is long gone brother and zambrano is not even in this race , his pr is barely 43.93, how can he be favourite ??
And yes Gardiner has the poential and heavy favourite also, he can be compared to Norman, and do you think Norman is not trending?

@@dhami_jii Don't waste your breath on this guy. People have already deemed Michael Norman washed up, which is absolutely crazy-talk lol 🤣 But you really can't take him seriously when he says Kirani James is in his prime.

@@PoliticalMastermind0 I never said Norman was washed up. He’s obviously extremely talented and a contender for medals at any global championship. All I said is I’d take others before him. And yes, I can say that Kirani is still close to his prime because he came back after years of being gone from illness and managed to have his 4th fastest season, (0.14 seconds off of his personal best).

@@dhami_jii You know James is still only 29, right? Michael Johnson was 33 when he ran his fastest, and Merritt himself was 29. Considering James just came back from illness and still ran nearly his PB to win a bronze medal at the Olympics, it’s pretty absurd to conclude he’s “long gone” like you say.
As for Zambrano, I didn’t say he’s the favourite, but you can’t discredit the man who’s finished second behind Gardiner at both of the last global championships, especially when he’s still very young and improving. PRs don’t decide who wins competitions. If they did, Kerley would have beaten Zambrano in 2019. If they did, Johannes Vetter would have beaten Neeraj Chopra at the Olympics, who wouldn’t have even medaled. If PRs were all that mattered, Asafa Powell would have many more global medals, and Andre de Grasse would have far less. Not to mention that 43.93 is an extremely competitive time, which would have won most championships and Olympics in history.
