      Mike you should know that "good stats" doesn't mean he was playing well. Wilson can't read a defense or throw over the middle. You're such a casual fan.

      Mike, Payton should try to get Jameis from the Saints. Even if they don't do the best next year, they have someone to hold them over & be able to throw bombs down the field. All else fails they have a shot to go for broke in the 2025 draft and trade up whatever they can or should for Shedeur Sanders who would be a great QB under Payton's system. All the cocky attitude and social media frenzy wouldn't be a problem because it would get checked right at the door with this coach.

    This is a tremendous deal for Russell Wilson! The Broncos have to pay him 87 MILLION dollars over the next two years to stay home and play with Mama or to sign with a new team for another 87 MILLION dollars to come back and beat the crap out of the Broncos! How sweet it is!

      He's getting blamed by lots of media outlets but my God is he making so much money. It would be glorious for Russ to get on a team next year and if he could beat the broncos while they are depositing millions into his bank account.

      Guarantees don't work that way. The Broncos will have to pay the difference in contracts. If he took the veteran minimum, the Broncos would have to pay a shit ton, but if he gets a big contract somewhere else, the Broncos would love it. Russ should take the vet min just to screw the Broncos.

      What are you talking about? Ashamed? Give me a break. LOL Some of you need to understand this is a business. I salute the Broncos for acknowledging they screwed up trading for Wilson and instead of keeping him around paying him. Taking the salary hit and moving on... Me thinks alot of anger about this in the media is because player's around the league and in the media are upset other teams may do the same thing.

      @el80ne 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@TJIRISH44 You salute in vain seeing as how no one who was actually responsible for making the decision to move on acknowledged "screwing up". The current owners shirked responsibility and scapegoated the previous owners for the Wilson debacle. The current owners also made it worse for themselves by making their decision in game 8 and turning Payton into their hatchet man delivering the news after the win over the Chiefs. The best owners are hands off and allow the football pros run the football team. Broncos owners are looking a lot like a meddlesome ownership group prone to make arbitrary and rash decisions based on their poor gut emotion. It's a recipe for decimation. Have fun rooting for that.

    • @TJIRISH44
      @TJIRISH44 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      First I agree about new ownership making mistakes. From what I have seen Payton has done a good job turning the Bronco's around already from last season's team. People on here saying fire the GM? I agree based on the trade for Wilson and contract extension. Both decisions were a mistake. OK soo what do you do when you make a mistake? You acknowledge the mistake and move on... The defense has improved since the Miami debacle AND the defense is why the Bronco's turned their record around not the offense. Wilson's stats looked good but he has not impressed me this season. Wilson's INT's killed them in a couple key games. His deep ball is not what it used to be and he is on the decline. The offensive talent around Wilson is not like Carolina's... The view is oh the Bronco's are stuck in cap hell because of Wilson's contract. No you can release Wilson and take the cap hit for a couple season's and if Bronco's draft wisely be in position to win down the road with Payton obviously secure in his job. The Bronco's won that KC game because of the Defense. BOTTOM line Payton was brought in to build a contender. He decided he doesn't want Wilson as his QB meaning they were going to take the cap hit. They approached Wilson asking him to remove the injury designation. Wilson rightfully said Noo! After the PAT loss the Bronco's were out of playoff contention so the team is benching Wilson because if he gets hurt it hurt's the teams cap alot worse after they already decided to release Wilson. You see all these EX player's in media trashing the Broncos reason being what the Bronco's just did could set a precedent for other teams. The NBA does moves like this ALL the time. HOW do you know the Bronco's don't go out and get a QB like Jake Browning and have as much success as Wilson did these last 2 seasons. Plus Wilson is not the most popular teammate if you listen to ex player's. @@el80ne

    Based on the way Denver (and Payton) treated him, if I were Russ, I would not accept a trade anywhere (he has a no trade clause I believe). I'd force them to cut me to keep Denver on the hook for my contract. I'd then go to another team for the league minimum of $1.21million so that my new team can spend money on the o-line and offensive weapons.

      It does not happen often. I think I remember Brady did it at some point. I do know in a different industry, Jay Leno while hosting the tonight show took a 50% pay cfut from $30 million to $15 million to keep the staff employed. Regardless of the dollars involved and incredible gesture. His net worth is likely over $200 million. So he could easily do what you suggest. Maybe even trade some ownership for salary dollars. I wouldn't have renegotiated if I were Wilson either. First the Broncos hired a truly inept head coach in Hackett (which itself was part of some Bizarre failed scheme to lure Aaron Rodgers away). Then in year two Russ returned to SB form (yep, check the stats, which means last year it wasn't Wilson, it was all on Hackett) but now the Bronco's defense has collapsed into ineptitude.
    The Broncos front office has been a masterclass on how to ruin a team in two years, they're on the same level as the Panthers.

His top 10 in the league in being sacked, fumbles and fumbles lost. The offense is not efficient at all. He either chucks it deep hoping one of the WRs makes a spectacular catch or checks it down to a RB. Sean Payton has done everything he can to get what he can out of Wilson.

      As a bronco fan since I was 5 I will say that Sean is the type of coach we need. His presence is a culture change and Russ is too short for the system Sean is trying to run. Your playing in the nfl and these are grown men especially with the fact that this is a harsh business. Truth is this was going to happen to begin with , Sean made sure to get Jared stidam as the highest payed backup because he wanted the team to be his. He didn’t want Russ to begin with he just was dealing with what he had. I wish Russ the best he’s a great person and a good player but he doesn’t belong in the Sean Payton system. I’m sure Russ can succeed in other places but I don’t believe in this stupid narrative that Sean is the problem. Sean got us in a great position and Vance Joseph was holding us back with the defense in the beginning. Now Vance has done great so I’m curious what the team will look like with an actual tall qb that can play Sean schemes.

    That “5 week stretch” was not due to the offense, it was due to the insane turnover ratio. After that “5 week stretch,” the turnover ratio returned to earth and the offense was incapable of finishing games (even close games).
    The most important stat people are ignoring in any sport is win-loss. Russ was 7-8 in 2023 and 5-12 in 2022, or 12-20. That’s not elite, nor is it a good value for what he’s being paid. Convince me I’m wrong!

    • @deearteezt
      @deearteezt 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +29

      You're absolutely right regarding the defense being historically elite in that 5-game stretch. With that said, Russ hasn't had a reliable target outside of Sutton, no reliable run-game, inconsistent O-Line and Payton limited his playbook to predictable offensive stretches, typically consisting of run-run-pass schemes. Russ had 1000 yards less than Mahomes but produced similar end results with all the team's short-comings.

      "Convince me I'm wrong". NOBODY can. Your opinion seems cast in stone. First, you belittle Wilson for "that five week stretch" by saying it is ALL die to turnover ratio, but then go on to say "only win loss MATTER"" without even acknowledging how HORRIBLE the defense is. The fact that Wilson took "the worst NFL defense since 1981" to ANY wins at all is a miracle.
      "The Denver Broncos have struggled mightily on defense to start the 2023 NFL season. Unfortunately, the unit has been historically awful for the Broncos through the first four games. On October 6, ESPN ranked Denver as having the worst defensive start in the NFL since 1981. The Broncos were slotted one spot ahead of the winless 2008 Detroit Lions. Defensive rankings were calculated through DVOA instead of points allowed per game. DVOA accounts for yards per play, consistency and turnovers, with adjustments based on opponent quality."

      @@deearteezt 100% agree on everything except Russ, and I think the problem is more complex than just a coach, a QB, or any one issue. I believe it's been due to cultural problems in the Broncos for almost a decade of neglecting the o-line (as you mentioned), poor drafting, reaching on QBs, hiring inexperienced head coaches, etc. Those are management issues (old management) that have translated into the field.
      Also, players knew they'd be around longer than any coach, and it became harder and harder to hire the next head coach after the previous one was fired. Except for a few standouts, players seemed to be playing for a paycheck more than a win, and sloppiness was tolerated (like you mentioned).
      That said, I'm not convinced that Russ played well. He's been under 2 head coaches and one interim coach, and the offense was all-around predictable. I guess time will tell if the offense was dumbed down for Russ (something Seattle fans warned Denver about) or if Hackett's and Payton's play-calling was the issue.

      What a ridiculously shallow perspective. Look at the average yards per rush. Look at the number of dropped passes relative to top tier teams in the NFL. Look at the lack of depth at receiver with the exception of Sutton who has been god like. Jerry Jeudy whines and he does get open. But he will NOT sacrifice his body to catch a spass and he has butter fingers.
      Russell Wison has always been a 4th quarter QB. That was never a secret. The Seahawks were very rarely a big scoring team. We all knew in SEA that if the defense kept the score low, the Hawks would win. If they scored 21 points it was fair bet they'd win. The defense was just that good. The line backers and defensive backs in particular. But they also had amazingly talented receivers including tight ends. A roster full of incredible talent that would do anything to catch the ball and control it. They had great running backs. And Wilson knew how to win late in games. He had a sense for the heroics. Seattle also had an amazing coaching staff when they were younger and hungrier. Denver has literally none of this. So you are right. It is all Russell Wilsons fault. Ridiculous.

It’s amazing Wilson has gotten as far as he has in the NFL considering he is incapable of reading a defense pre and post snap in Payton’s offense the QB needs to be able to process and deliver in a rhythm you can see recently Sean Payton’s frustration with Wilson

If you watch the games you see nothing but checkdowns and screens and 1 or 2 random deep balls a game. You can even win some games like that if the other team turns the ball over but I'm sure that isn't how the offense is supposed to look. Sutton/Jeudy/Mims is a fine trio so it isn't a lack of weapons. Maybe the scheme isn't good and coaches deserve some blame but we have no way of knowing because Russ throws the checkdown every play

Wilson was undoubtedly a failure in Denver, that much I won't argue. However, the play calling during his short stay has been ludicrously awful. The Broncos aren't fooling anyone with that garbage. Brees was midget just like Russ, but Brees had a lot of weapons , he had same devery henderson or stallworth or fast guide s but then complimented slow guys but were tought and can catch in middle. Like marques colston, jimmy graham, does Russ have any of those weapons? Those were all possession and tall type catchers, he does not have this. Many of his deep balls were not completed would of been completed if WR had better hands and hand eye coordination instead of just athleticism and pure speed.

      @@Purple-qi4hj no he is not a good fit in Payton’s offense he checks the ball down nearly every play and his stats show that he barely has 3000 passing yards he’s playing not to lose instead of to win

      @@Purple-qi4hj I have also watched every game this year, and I have noticed that Sean Payton has dumb downed the offense for russ because he can’t excel in Payton’s west cost offense since he holds the ball to long and can’t see over the middle of the field

    The Broncos turned out to not be a "good fit" for Wilson. Especially when Payton took over. Given the amount of franchises that are "thirsty" for a competent QB, it will be interesting to see where he lands.....

      Right on. Russ is going to be just fine. And will definitely have his opportunity to prove himself. I really don’t see Payton lasting. The guy is a total jerk.

    As a Denver Broncos fan, since 1985, when I was just a mere 9 year old kid, in those 38 years, there hasn’t been a stretch, 2016-Present, (8 seasons) that this organization has been this horrific at the QB position. Look, I don’t give a 💩 if Sean Peyton is getting professional football players, like, Russell Wilson, all triggered, because he’s an old school Head Coach. After we finally beat the Chiefs for the 1st time, since The Obama Administration, then following that up with 3 straight wins after the bye, I watched The Texans game in Week 13. Previous to that, our play at the beginning of the season was absolutely horrific, like, porn dialogue horrific. Losing to the Raiders, Commanders, then getting lit up, like a 15 minute post dialogue scene in a Porn flick, to the Dolphins for 70 points. I watched as we stayed competitive against a Chiefs team, that’s most likely one of the least productive Chiefs teams, since the Mahomes era, to beating the Chiefs at home, I still had my expectations in check. Because, big time players make big time plays. Wilson and the Broncos Offense failed to make a big time play, that would have, at that time put my team, a half game back of 1st place in the AFC West. Instead, I saw my team, play and execute like a .500 football team. Forget that W against The Browns, by the end of that game, a 3rd string QB was behind Center for the Browns. After watching what a legit NFC Playoff team did to us, confirmed my suspicions that we are just an average football team, with an average QB, that made a stupid decision, just a season prior, by extending Wilson’s contract after giving up our future. Then to drop a💩 into the caviar bowl, we fkn lost to The Patriots!!! A team that doesn’t beat us when playing at Mile High…..but that’s exactly what The Patriots did. Now all that I can hope for is that some NFL Team, in a desperate situation, needing a QB, will somehow figure take Russell Wilson, while we eat half of his cap hit for the next 8 or so years….🤞🏼🙏🏼. Then we can finally go back to start drafting horrendous QB’s in the 1st-2nd Rounds of the NFL draft that won’t cost us tens of millions each year. Yes, this is a fkn rant, a rant that has hit the boiling point after 8 seasons.

      He is an old school coach with a mediocre record. One Superbowl and a whole lot of not quite good enough to follow. Banned from the league for placing monetary bounties to have opposing player hurt. Denver die hards have to realize, this guy is no Bill Belichick or Bill Walsh. He is just a luckier Josh McDaniels.
      As far as Wilson's contract goes, why are you upset with WILSON? If they offered you that money, you'd take it too. You should!!! Wilson is the symptom. The problem is horrible management and clueless owners. Stop making excuses and blaming the messenger. Your problems in Denver start at the top. Bad decesion after bad decision.

    Last time I had this much fun as a Bronco fan, we shit the bed against RW's Seahawks in the SB. I thought the game against Miami was rock bottom. The Broncos have responded... "hold our beers".

    He's taking so many sacks to keep that completion number up. If you have watched any Bronco games this season, Russ is a huge liability. Look at the offense made up of 80 %screen passes and runs. This team is starved for talent, sure. Broncos need a qb that makes ppl better. Russ doesn't do that, it's that easy.

      People use stats because they know that film doesnt agree with them. He flat out misses wide open guys, or simply doesnt see them, he holds the ball far too long, and he makes brain-dead decisions when he does throw it.

      Yards per rush bottom have of the league. Dropped passed high. With the exception of an incredible standout performance by Sutton, the receivers SUCK. Jerry Jeudy whines about too few targets. Dude, hold on to the ball and sacrifice your self like Sutton and maybe you'd be trustworthy! But you are right. It is all Wilson's fault.
