Stidham didn't do anything magical against the Chargers. He was really latargic if you ask my honest opinion.

As a Seahawks fan, I can feel everything you’re saying about Russ. I loved him when we had him on that cheap rookie contract, but the moment we had pay him and take money away from other positions, all those exhilarating and also frustrating quarks of his, became unbearable to me. He’s a talented passer with some of the most perplexing decision making. Carroll knew his strengths and weaknesses better than anyone and got the most out of him. Not many coaches could do that, and clearly Payton isn’t looking to take on that project with an aging QB past his prime.

Ungratefully fanbase who went to 2 Super bowls with this guys "quirks". Giving you the ONLY championship you EVER got and may EVER get because your organization is mid at best. Teams who think like your team thinks run with Geno Smith at QB and miss the playoffs most seasons. You deserve losing for your ungrateful nature and complete lack of respect for the players who got you to the highest places.
Russ on a contract vs Russ on a rookie contract is not how you look at players. You do not win that Super Bowl or compete for them at all without Russ and never did you win before or since without him. You had one lucky season where a great coach got you in with a Hasselbeck but Russ was the only QB you ever had that gave you a chance to win a championship and you started shitting on him over and over and over until you ran him out of town . This completely FAKE idea that somehow Russ is to blame for the Broncos making no showing this season is BS . I am not a fan of this franchise either as I follow a good franchise in the Packers. However i scout football and because I watch Russ in college in my home state I saw Russ in his college prime destroy everyone at that level. Russ was AMAZING and is one of the best throwers of the football in the history of the game. The Broncos benched him does not hold amazing meaning until it does . This might mean NOTHING . You being mad that you had to pay the guy who took you all the way twice is why your franchise will never win by design and will have to wait to LUCK into another 4th round QB who saves your franchise. Fans like you suck . You see the game in a way that is killing sports and I am assuming you also believe William Thomas is a woman and deserves to compete against women in their sport.

I’m not a Broncos fan, but looking at this from an outside perspective, the problem wasn’t trading for Russ. The trade could be justified by saying that the team had everything they needed for a deep playoff run (which appeared to be the case at the time of the trade). The real problem was signing him to that bloated contract before he even played a down for Denver. If last season highlighted anything, it’s that Denver had far more issues on the team than previously thought, including hiring one of the worst coaches in NFL history. But now it’s very difficult for the organization to fix said issues because of that disastrous contract, whereas they would have had less trouble fixing those issues now if Broncos brass had just watched things play out in 2022, fired Hackett, and admitted that the Wilson experiment did not work.
EDIT: So apparently the Broncos organization informed Wilson’s reps in October that they were anticipating benching him at some point during the season. I’m not a Wilson fan or hater, but god damn, talk about destroying someone’s confidence.

I want to thank you for your segment on Russell Wilson's temperament. I've been working on a ranking of NFL quarterbacks who've started a currently undetermined number of games this season based on how well I think they'd do in Survivor. You discussing this aspect of Russell Wilson makes me strongly believe that in the game of Survivor, he'd be able to keep a cool head, bounce back from Tribal Council not going his way, and be a leader in both the tribe and in challenges. This ranking may also be one of the only rankings of quarterbacks this season that puts Russell Wilson above Patrick Mahomes.

Yup - that was what he did at Seattle: kind of phoned it in until late in the third quarter. Sometimes it would result in a miraculous comeback, usually it wouldn't. He was great at chucking it down the sidelines, not so great at anything that had to be thrown over his O-line. Once teams figured that out, and became a bit slower, that was pretty much it for him. Plays for him have to be designed rollouts or playaction preceded by a dangerous running game. Kind of feel sorry for the guy, even as a Hawks fan - that said: NO YOU CAN'T HAVE PENIX HE'S OURS GDI

I’ve seen some confusion on this move because Russ’s stats look superficially “good” but it’s really just the very nice TD:INT ratio. The biggest thing that you can see from the stats is that Russ just doesn’t throw for big yardage anymore (and that wasn’t never his best skill anyway). Just over 3,000 yards in 15 games is very mediocre in today’s NFL and though his running has also bounced back a bit from the last couple seasons, it’s not enough to offset the overall lack of production. As Perna knows from watching him, Russ basically can never string together a full game and goes completely dead for about two quarters every game. He’s basically a top end game manager, but that’s not likely to win you a Super Bowl or be worth anything close to the money he’s owed.

      @@timjones147True, but what’s the point?
If we’re going by wins, Russ is 11-19 as the Broncos QB. 17-27 over his last three, 29-31 over his last 4 (though I feel like citing his last two years with the Seahawks is way more irrelevant than his season stats). Statistics don’t win games, but they are a record of a player’s production, and the sad fact for Russell is that he just isn’t that productive anymore. The best case that he hasn’t declined is that he still leads the NFL in 4th quarter comebacks and game winning drives (with 4), but I think many Broncos fans would argue that they wouldn’t have needed him to have those comebacks if the offense would have produced more earlier in the game.

Russ has always been an amazing deep ball passer. He's also always been a guy who holds the ball way too long and was truly only at his very best when the O-line was able to move the pocket for him. Because for whatever reason (his height, honestly) he can't just stand in the pocket and find open receivers or even pass them open. Seattle certainly thanks you for taking him off our hands. For what it's worth, I don't want Denver to fail because Russ is/was there since it holds no benefit for Seattle anymore. I just want Denver to fail because I can't stand Sean Payton. But good luck I guess. Neither of us is going anywhere this year regardless :)

I don't blame Russell Wilson at all! At first, I did, but seeing the 16-point deficit against the Patriots vanish I no longer do. Sean was forced to call pass plays and other than a few unnecessary bombs Russell Wilson responded perfectly! Before that it was run run pass with a screen here or there. If Sean kicked the FG in first quarter we win. I don't believe Sean was playing to win this entire year. If Wilson was really the problem, and if they really wanted to win they would have benched him earlier.

In his last year with the Seahawks, Russ got criticized by Pete and actually fought back on one aspect of his play (the only time he talked back to criticism). Russ is too confident in his ability to scramble. I remember watching him be fairly uncatchable when he got outside of the pocket and it's in those moments that he hardly ever looked to just run forward himself. That's likely what kept him healthy compared to most other mobile QBs. But in his last year with the Seahawks, his declining mobility with age was clear in how he would still keep trying those little U-turn moves to try and evade defenders. It wouldn't help him escape the likes of Aaron Donald, for an example.
I watched a Broncos game where I watched him still trying to do that while a defender was already on top of him, and again, it didn't work. He takes some key sacks trying to extend a play he just cannot extend like he used to. He'll make a good backup for some team, but he definitely needs to watch some games from the sidelines.

I was figuring he wouldn't excel in Denver, unfortunately. Russ' style of play (where he dances around and delays so receivers can get open) only works with good blocking. Seattle could never get a good o-line because they always drafted too late, so his success didn't last. Denver did not have a much better o-line than Seattle did when Wilson left there. So I was skeptical that he'd be able to recapture what he had in the early days of his career (when Seattle had one of the best o-lines).

The fact of the matter is that a lot of Russell's career were hollow stats. So so so many 3 and outs forgotten because of some beautiful highlight scramble.
I understand wanting to give Russ credit from improving upon last season, but I also think that means you need to hold him accountable for being so awful last season. People like to take the lazy route and say it was mostly on hackett, but what was a first year head coach supposed to do when someone that national media perceived as a future HOFer came in, and was given the promise and power to significantly influence the offensive play design. What do you do when that person thinks he can play like brady, but he is below average in a clean pocket? Let alone one that starts to feel a little pressure, where the great qbs would start making micro adjustments, wilson's eyes just drop and he starts spinning and doing all sorts of random stuff.
I am not saying hackett is a good head coach, but when you aren't given the authority, and you have a giant fraud given all this power to do whatever he wants, you aren't going to be able to get the rest of the players to believe you're the guy in charge.
Now imagine hackett's position, which is in some ways similar to Payton in that, they both have experienced elite QB play, and then have had to move to a phony QB that can't play on schedule. At least Payton had the advantage of having the clout, and Wilson being humiliated last year so that he could become more coachable and stop imagining he was on the brady-tier.
I also think you give him too much credit for how he handles controversy... you just haven't gotten to experience it yet in denver, but wait until team 3 starts their smear campaign of the broncos org with various leaks to swing the public in Wilson's corner and paint the broncos as evil. He's got all sorts of dirt on his past but people just don't care... like having one of the worst charities of all the walter payton men of the year.
Him going to atlanta would be good for him, his wife has a connection to ATL, and it's a weak division for him to feast in.
I don't think the 5% or whatever chance to make the playoffs is as bad as it looks, there are a lot of games the broncos need to go their way that are not unrealistic.
Edit: Lol just saw someone mentioning Russ liking tweets related to anonymous reports about being "threatened" with a benching if he didn't renegotiate his injury guarantees. The Team 3 smear campaign has begun.

@teamdinosaurs999 saying much of his career stats are hollow is just a horrendous take. You and others seem to forget that he won a Super Bowl with Seattle and it also took him nearly a decade before having a losing season. He had several years where he made milestones for most wins by a quarterback to start a career. In Seattle he also averaged damn near 4,000 yards and 30 touchdowns a season with less than 10 picks. Russ may not have been an elite pocket passer or great rhythm passer because of his size but in his prime he was still a damn good quarterback with elite stats for years

People like you won't understand because you probably can't grasp how his stats this season are hollow either. Let alone comprehend how a player could do that for most of their career. But notice that once that historic defense went away the seahawks were no longer real contenders. That's cause of hollow stats and a way of playing that is not effective vs playoff caliber teams.
There's also a reason he never got a single mvp vote.
